cnbp_319.dll is a Canon printer-driver component, not a normal Windows runtime file. When Windows reports that cnbp_319.dll is missing or could not be loaded, restore the complete Canon driver package for the exact printer model instead of downloading the DLL by itself.
What this file actually does
Available driver inventories associate cnbp_319.dll with Canon Inkjet Printer Driver packages. It appears in older Canon PIXMA driver families, including packages associated with models such as the iP3500, iP4500, MX700, MP520, MP610 and MP970 series.

The exact printer model matters because several Canon packages can contain similarly named components. The file may be installed beneath a Windows Driver Store path resembling:
C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepositoryprnca00a.inf_amd64_neutral_...Amd64
The folder name varies by Windows version and installation. The file is not established as a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, .NET file or general-purpose System32 file.

Reported messages include:
- “The program can’t start because cnbp_319.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “Application could not be started because CNBP_319.DLL was missing.”
- “Error loading cnbp_319.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “cnbp_319.dll could not be loaded.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located in cnbp_319.dll.”
These messages do not all mean the same thing. The DLL itself may be absent, a dependency may be missing, the wrong architecture may be installed, or the Canon driver package may be damaged or incompatible with the current Windows release.

The most common repair is a complete Canon driver installation. Windows repair commands are secondary because this file belongs to printer software rather than being a confirmed Windows system component.
Fix 1: Reinstall the correct Canon printer driver
Start by identifying the printer model. Check the label on the printer, or open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners on Windows 11. In Windows 10, open Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners.
If the printer is listed, select it and note its exact model name. If it is not listed, check the existing Canon utility, the printer’s physical label or the documentation that came with the device.
Then:
- Open Canon’s official support portal in your browser.
- Search for the exact printer model.
- Select the installed Windows version and the available system architecture.
- Download the applicable Canon printer package. Depending on the model, it may be called MP Drivers, Printer Driver, or Print Driver and Scan Utility Installer.
- If the printer is connected by USB, disconnect the cable when the installer requests it. Do not disconnect a network printer unless the installer specifically instructs you to.
- Right-click the downloaded installer and select Run as administrator.
- Follow the installation wizard.
- Reconnect the USB printer when prompted, or allow the installer to locate the network printer.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Settings → Printers & scanners, select the Canon printer and choose Print a test page.
The repair worked if the Canon printer appears without a warning, the test page prints, and the original application no longer reports cnbp_319.dll.
Do not copy the DLL from another computer. A complete printer installation also includes an INF file, catalog, configuration data, spooler settings and related binaries. Copying one file does not recreate those components.
Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Do not assume that a file from a 64-bit installation can replace a component used by a 32-bit program. The historical inventories for this filename describe different builds and architectures, so there is no universal replacement version to copy.
To check Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System → About.
- Look at System type under Device specifications.
Choose the operating system and architecture offered for the exact printer model on Canon’s support page. If Canon provides a newer compatible driver, use it instead of forcing an older package.

If the installer refuses to run, reports that the operating system is unsupported, or installs without detecting the printer, continue with a clean removal.

Fix 2: Remove the damaged Canon package and reinstall it
Use this procedure when reinstalling over the existing driver does not help, or when the error began after an interrupted uninstall or Windows upgrade.

- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Search for Canon software, Canon printer utilities or the affected printer package.
- Select the relevant entry and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
On Windows 10, use Settings → Apps → Apps & features instead. You can also open Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features and remove the Canon software there.
Next remove the device:
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected Canon printer.
- Choose Remove.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Device Manager by right-clicking Start and selecting Device Manager.
- Expand Print queues, Printers and, where present, Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click the Canon device and select Uninstall device.
- If Windows displays Delete the driver software for this device, select it only when you are certain the listed device is the affected Canon printer.
- Select Uninstall and restart Windows again.
Do not manually delete files from C:WindowsSystem32DriverStore. Microsoft warns that deleting Driver Store contents directly can cause unpredictable behavior.
For a more complete removal, use an elevated Command Prompt:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- List installed third-party driver packages:
pnputil /enum-drivers
- Find the Canon package by inspecting its provider, class, original file name or driver details.
- Note its exact Published Name, which normally looks like
oem##.inf. - Remove only the confirmed Canon package:
pnputil /delete-driver <Published Name> /uninstall
Replace <Published Name> with the exact value shown by pnputil. Do not guess an oem##.inf name. Removing the wrong package can disable another device.
If Windows says the package cannot be removed, it may be in use, supplied with Windows or protected by package rules. Reboot, confirm that the printer is disconnected or removed, and try again. If it still cannot be removed, leave the package in place and reinstall the correct Canon driver rather than deleting unrelated Driver Store files.
After cleanup, install the Canon package again using Fix 1.

Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
If the file disappeared suddenly, Windows Security may have quarantined it.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review detections related to the Canon installer or printer driver.
- Open the detection details and record the file path and source.
- Scan the complete Canon installer again before allowing anything.
- Restore or allow the file only if it came from a genuine Canon driver package and the detection is clearly a false positive.
Do not repeatedly restore a file that Defender continues to quarantine. Instead, remove the old package, download a fresh installer from Canon’s official support portal and scan it before running it. If the installer itself is detected, stop the installation and investigate the detection.

A file is not safe merely because its name is familiar. The relevant question is whether it came from an authentic, trusted Canon package and is installed in the expected driver location.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use Windows repair commands when other system components are also failing, Windows Update is damaged or several unrelated applications report missing files. These commands do not guarantee restoration of a third-party Canon driver.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Canon printer again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store, and SFC checks protected Windows files. If both commands complete successfully but cnbp_319.dll is still missing, reinstall the Canon driver rather than repeating SFC indefinitely.

If printing worked recently and a restore point exists from before the failure, System Restore may roll back driver and system changes.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the Canon driver failure.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point.
- Select Finish and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore normally affects system files, drivers, registry settings and installed programs, not personal documents. After Windows starts, test the printer and then install a compatible Canon driver if the old package remains damaged.
Why regsvr32 usually does not help
regsvr32 is not a general DLL repair utility. It is intended for DLLs that provide the DllRegisterServer entry point. Printer-driver binaries do not automatically support that registration method.

Running this command against the file:
regsvr32 cnbp_319.dll
may produce an error saying that the module loaded but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. It does not rebuild the Canon INF, catalog, driver-store entry or printer configuration.

Do not place the file manually in C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64 or an application folder. That can create version conflicts and still leave the printer driver unusable.
If the error appears outside Canon printing
If a non-Canon application reports cnbp_319.dll, do not assume the application needs a system-wide copy of the file.
Check:
- The full path shown in the error or application log.
- The application’s installed files and recent updates.
- Startup entries in Settings → Apps → Startup.
- Recently installed printer utilities or bundled software.
- Whether the error disappears after uninstalling the unrelated application.
If the file is requested from an unusual application directory, reinstall or remove that application through Settings → Apps → Installed apps. A standalone DLL download is especially risky in this situation because it can conceal a damaged or unwanted program.

Should I download cnbp_319.dll by itself?
No. Random DLL download sites may provide malware, the wrong build or the wrong architecture. Even a genuine-looking DLL does not restore the Canon INF, catalog, dependencies or printer configuration. Use the complete driver package from Canon.
Will SFC restore the file?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows components. Because cnbp_319.dll is associated with a Canon driver package, reinstalling that package is the normal repair.
Should I run regsvr32?
Generally no. It is not a universal repair command and may report that the DLL has no DllRegisterServer entry point.

Record the exact printer model, Windows version, full error text, path named in the error, connection type and Canon installer name. Then remove only the confirmed Canon package with Device Manager or pnputil, restart and install the correct compatible package again.
