2. Remove the broken printer
In Windows 11:
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Choose the affected Canon printer.
- Select Remove and confirm.
In Windows 10:
- Open Settings.
- Select Devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the Canon printer.
- Choose Remove device.

4. Install and test
Run the Canon installer as an administrator if required. Keep the printer disconnected until the installer asks for it when using a USB connection. For a network printer, ensure the printer and PC are on the same network.
After setup finishes:
- Restart Windows if the installer requests it.
- Open Printers & scanners again.
- Confirm that the Canon printer appears.
- Open its printer properties.
- Print a test page.
If the error no longer appears and the test page prints, the repaired package has restored the component or replaced the broken driver path.
Manually hunting through driver versions is slow, especially when Windows lists several old packages. - Its location matches the installed Canon package.
- Its digital signature is valid where a signature is expected.
- A current scan does not identify broader malware.
The safer response is usually to remove the broken Canon installation and reinstall it from Canon’s official support site. If the replacement is also detected, leave it quarantined and investigate the detection with the security vendor.
A file with this name outside a Canon driver location is not automatically legitimate.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when other Windows components are also failing, Windows Update is damaged, or the error began alongside broader system corruption. They are secondary fixes for a Canon DLL problem.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for it to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after both commands complete.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows system files. Neither command normally recreates a third-party Canon driver file that was never installed, so reinstall the Canon package if the error remains.

- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter:
printmanagement.msc
- Open Print Servers.
- Expand the local computer.
- Select Drivers.

Do not delete a driver package unless you know it belongs to the broken installation and is not shared by another printer. If Print Management is unavailable in your Windows edition, do not install random management utilities just to remove one entry. Use regsvr32 only if Canon’s documentation for the exact printer package explicitly requires it. Otherwise, reinstall the complete driver.

Avoid these common mistakes:
- Downloading
