cnbp_337.dll is a Canon Inkjet Printer Driver component, so a cnbp_337.dll missing or not-found message usually points to a damaged, incomplete, or stale Canon printer installation. The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the complete printer-driver package, not to download cnbp_337.dll from a random DLL website.
What this file actually does
cnbp_337.dll is associated with Canon’s inkjet printer driver software. Public file metadata also associates it with the reported prnca00i.inf printer-driver package and an older Windows DriverStore location, but that association is not an official Canon file manifest.

This is a driver payload, not a general Windows runtime. There is no reliable evidence that it belongs to Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, a game launcher, or a current core Windows component. The exact Canon printer models that include it could not be confirmed from an official public file manifest, so identify the affected printer before choosing a replacement package.

Causes and symptoms
| What you see | Most likely cause | Best first action |
|---|---|---|
| The error appears when printing or opening Canon software | Incomplete or corrupted Canon driver installation | Reinstall the model-specific Canon driver |
| The message appears after removing a printer | A stale printer entry or utility still references the DLL | Remove old printer and driver entries |
| It started after Windows Update or an upgrade | An incompatible legacy driver or damaged DriverStore entry | Check Windows Update, then reinstall the Canon package |
| Windows Security shows the file in Protection history | Antivirus quarantine or deletion | Verify the source before restoring anything |
| DISM or SFC reports system damage | Windows component-store corruption | Run DISM, then SFC |
| “The specified module could not be found” appears | A dependency of the DLL may be missing | Repair the complete driver package, not only the named file |
| The error appears at every boot after uninstalling Canon software | A startup item, task, or stale utility remains | Remove the remaining Canon software and startup reference |
Reported wording can include “The program can’t start because cnbp_337.dll is missing from your computer,” “The code execution cannot proceed because cnbp_337.dll was not found,” “Error loading cnbp_337.dll,” or “cnbp_337.dll is not designed to run on Windows.” The exact message depends on the executable that requested the file and your Windows version. A missing-DLL message also does not prove that the named file alone is the root cause.
Fix 1: Reinstall the complete Canon printer driver
This is the most likely solution because the file belongs to a printer-driver package.
- Identify the exact Canon printer model from the printer label or from Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Open Canon’s official support portal in your browser.
- Select the exact printer model, country or region, and Windows version.
- Download the matching Windows printer driver or setup package.
- Close print queues, Canon utilities, and applications that use the printer.
- If the download is compressed, extract it to a new folder.
- Right-click the Canon installer, select Run as administrator, and follow the setup wizard.
- Connect or power on the printer only when the installer requests it.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
- Print a test page from Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → your Canon printer → Print a test page.
A basic Windows class driver may restore printing but omit Canon-specific utilities, scanning integration, color controls, or advanced paper settings. If printing works but those features are missing, install the full model-specific Canon package rather than copying the DLL.
If the Canon installer refuses to proceed, remove the existing printer first:
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected Canon printer.
- Choose Remove and confirm.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the Canon installer again.
- Add the printer when setup requests it.
Do not delete arbitrary files from C:WindowsSystem32 or the DriverStore. Driver packages depend on their INF files, catalog data, services, and related binaries.
Manually checking every installed driver and hunting for a compatible package can be tedious when several old printers are present. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated or missing drivers; its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation and repair require the full version.
Fix 2: Check Windows Update for a printer driver
Microsoft recommends Windows Update as the normal source for printer-driver updates.
Recommended Free Tools
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install available updates and restart Windows.
- Return to Settings → Windows Update → Advanced options → Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates if that category is available.
- Install a Canon or printer-related driver update.
- Restart again and test the printer.
Microsoft’s printer-driver guidance is available at Download and install the latest printer drivers. Optional updates are described in Automatically get recommended and updated hardware drivers.
If Windows Update installs only a basic driver, use the full Canon package for your model to restore missing Canon features.

Fix 3: Remove the driver through Device Manager
Use Device Manager when the printer remains listed but its driver is clearly broken.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers or Print queues.
- Right-click the affected Canon printer.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the current Canon driver if Windows does not restore a working printer automatically.
If the printer is not under Printers or Print queues, check Universal Serial Bus controllers, Imaging devices, and Other devices for a Canon entry or an unknown device related to the printer. Do not remove unrelated hardware.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Microsoft documents this uninstall-and-restart process in Update drivers through Device Manager.
For a printer that was removed but still triggers the error, also inspect Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners and uninstall old Canon utilities from Settings → Apps → Installed apps. If the message appears at every boot, check Task Manager → Startup apps for a leftover Canon entry. Do not disable a startup item unless you can identify it as part of the removed printer software.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and SFC are appropriate if Windows itself has damaged component files or the DriverStore. They are not guaranteed to reinstall a missing third-party Canon package.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- At the administrator prompt, run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the Canon driver if the DLL error remains.
DISM repairs the Windows component store that SFC uses, which is why it should run first. Microsoft’s procedure is documented in Use System File Checker in Windows.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteSFC may report no integrity violations because cnbp_337.dll is a printer-driver component rather than a protected core Windows file. If both commands complete successfully but the error continues, return to the Canon driver reinstall rather than repeatedly running the same commands.
When you are tired of repeating DISM and SFC without knowing which driver or component is actually stale, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported Windows problems; its free scan identifies issues, while repair requires the full version.
Fix 5: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine a driver file after installation.

CNBP_337.DLL, Canon, or the printer installer. - Do not immediately select Restore.
- Confirm that the file came from a Canon installation and that its original path is plausible.
- Run a full security scan.
- Prefer reinstalling the driver from Canon so the complete package is restored.
Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined file can cause Defender to detect it again. Its guidance is available in Protection History.

Fix 6: Check architecture and compatibility
Public records for this file conflict about architecture and other metadata. A 64-bit Windows installation can also run 32-bit printer software, so the operating-system label alone does not tell you which driver payload is correct.
Use this process:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select System → About.
- Check System type.
- Return to Canon’s support page.
- Select the exact printer model and Windows release.
- Install the package Canon provides for that combination.
- Do not mix an individual 32-bit DLL into a 64-bit package or the reverse.
An old Windows 7-era driver may not be fully compatible with Windows 10 or Windows 11. If Canon provides no current package, try Windows Update’s printer driver or the compatible driver offered by Windows, understanding that advanced Canon features may not be available.

regsvr32 registers DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a universal repair command for every missing DLL.

regsvr32 CNBP_337.DLL
A printer-driver payload may not support self-registration. The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit regsvr32 can also produce a misleading error. Repair the printer package through its installer instead. Microsoft documents the command’s purpose in regsvr32 command.
Do not download or copy the DLL manually
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, a mismatched architecture, an incompatible build, or a file that does not include the dependencies and installation metadata the driver needs. Copying the file into System32, a printer folder, or an application directory can leave Windows with an inconsistent driver package.
Use Windows Update or the official Canon support page for the complete driver. If the error names an application that is no longer installed, remove its stale Canon printer software instead of replacing the DLL.

Windows Features are not a relevant repair path for this file. Do not enable .NET, DirectPlay, or other optional Windows features solely because cnbp_337.dll appears in an error.
If the error still appears
Capture the details before making more changes:
- The full error text and path
- The executable displaying the message
- Canon printer model
- Windows edition and build
- Whether the printer is still installed
- Recent driver, Windows, or antivirus changes
- Related entries in Event Viewer or the printer installation log
If reinstalling the driver fails because an old package remains registered, remove the printer and its Device Manager entry, restart, and run the Canon installer again. Use System Restore only when a suitable restore point predates the failure and normal driver repair has failed, because it can roll back unrelated applications and updates. Microsoft’s recovery guidance is covered in Backup, restore, and recovery.
FAQ
Is cnbp_337.dll a Windows system file?
It is associated with Canon’s inkjet printer-driver software, not established as a core Windows runtime. It may reside in the Windows DriverStore because Windows manages printer drivers there.
Is cnbp_337.dll malware?
The filename alone cannot prove that. A Canon-related copy in a plausible driver location supports a driver explanation, while an unexpected location or Defender alert requires investigation.
Should I install Visual C++ Redistributable?
No. There is no reliable evidence connecting this file to Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or a game dependency.
Can I fix it by copying the file into System32?
That is not recommended. Reinstall the complete Canon or Windows printer-driver package instead.
Why does SFC say everything is fine?
SFC may not repair or report a third-party printer-driver payload. A clean SFC result does not replace reinstalling the Canon driver.
What if the printer was already removed?
Remove leftover Canon printer entries, applications, startup items, and Device Manager devices. If the message continues, identify the executable that launches it rather than restoring the DLL blindly.
What is the definitive fix?
For an active Canon printer, install the correct model-specific driver through Windows Update or Canon’s official support channel. For a removed printer, clean up the stale driver reference and related Canon software.
