Remove the broken Canon printer

1. Open Settings.
2. Select Bluetooth & devices.

Fix 3: Confirm the architecture and compatibility

Time needed: 5–15 minutes

Third-party records for cnhf1lm.dll do not agree about whether particular copies are 32-bit or 64-bit. That is why you should not infer architecture from the filename or copy a catalogued DLL into a Windows folder.

1. Open Start.
2. Type Command Prompt.
3. Right-click Command Prompt.
4. Select Run as administrator.
5. Approve the User Account Control prompt.

Run DISM first:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Wait for it to finish. Then run:

sfc /scannow

Microsoft’s System File Checker instructions recommend this order because DISM can repair the Windows component store that SFC uses as a source.

Restart Windows after both commands finish. Try the Canon application again.

If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupt files, retest the application. If it reports that it could not repair everything, repeat the Canon driver cleanup and reinstall rather than expecting SFC to supply the third-party DLL.

1. Open Settings.
2. Select Apps.
3. Choose Installed apps.
4. Search for Canon.
5. Remove the old fax utility, printer driver package, or device software.
