One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchIf cnhl610.dll is missing, the fastest safe fix is usually to reinstall the Canon printer, scanner, camera, or imaging package that originally installed it. This is not a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, .NET file, or general-purpose Windows application DLL.
The 60-second answer
Public Windows file records associate CNHL610.DLL with Canon imaging support and the wiaca00a.inf driver package. It has been found in Windows DriverStore records connected with Windows Image Acquisition, or WIA.

The exact Canon model and current package version cannot be identified from the filename alone. Do not download a replacement DLL and copy it into System32, SysWOW64, or the failing application’s folder. Restore the complete Canon package instead, because it includes the DLL, INF files, related binaries, device registration, and required dependencies.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Use this order:
- Reinstall the exact Canon device driver.
- Run DISM and SFC if Windows Update or system repair is involved.
- Check architecture, dependencies, and antivirus quarantine.
- Use System Restore or Windows recovery if broader damage remains.
What is cnhl610.dll?
cnhl610.dll is a Canon application and imaging-driver file. Public records describe its internal name as LLD and associate it with Canon Inc., but they do not establish one current product model that universally installs it.

The strongest available evidence connects it with the Canon WIA driver package named wiaca00a.inf. Older Windows servicing records show both x86 and amd64 copies, so the correct binary depends on the Windows architecture, the Canon package, and the application using it.
The file may be involved when a Canon printer, scanner, camera-import utility, or older Canon imaging application starts. An apparently unrelated program can report the error because that program launches a Canon helper, accesses a WIA device, or loads an old Canon component in the background.
It is not established as a standalone Microsoft system API. Its presence in a Windows DriverStore location does not mean that it ships with every Windows installation.
Likely causes
| What changed | Most likely explanation | Correct response |
|---|---|---|
| Printing or scanning stopped working | Canon imaging driver was removed or damaged | Reinstall the exact Canon package |
| Windows Update or SFC reported the file | Component-store or servicing damage | Run DISM, then SFC |
| The file disappeared suddenly | Antivirus quarantine or cleanup software removed it | Check protection history, then reinstall safely |
| Only an old utility fails | The utility or its Canon support files are incomplete | Reinstall the utility and device package |
| The file exists but will not load | Wrong architecture, corruption, or a missing dependency | Repair the parent package and inspect logs |
| Several unrelated files are missing | Broader Windows damage | Repair Windows before troubleshooting Canon software |
Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Canon device package
This is the most likely solution when the error appears during printing, scanning, image import, or use of a Canon device.
Identify the device first
Look for:
- A connected or previously connected Canon printer
- A Canon scanner
- A Canon camera or image-import utility
- An older Canon toolbox, capture utility, or device monitor
- A Canon program listed in Apps or Programs and Features
If you do not know which device installed the file, check the error’s application name and inspect installed Canon software.
Remove the damaged device entry
- Press Windows + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, Imaging devices, and Cameras.
- Right-click the relevant Canon device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If Windows offers Attempt to remove the driver for this device, select it.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
The exact category depends on the device and Windows version. Do not remove unrelated devices merely because they have a similar name.
Install the official package
- Go to Canon’s official product support and driver portal.
- Search for the exact printer, scanner, camera, or imaging device.
- Select Windows 10 or Windows 11 as appropriate.
- Choose the correct architecture when Canon presents that choice.
- Download the complete recommended driver or software package.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Follow the setup wizard.
- Connect or power on the device only when the installer requests it.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application, print a test page, or perform a test scan.
The definitive repair is the package for the actual device, not a file named cnhl610.dll obtained separately. If only one legacy Canon utility still fails, reinstall that utility after reinstalling the device driver.

Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; its full-version installation feature is optional, and the exact Canon installer remains the definitive fix for this file.
Fix 2: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
Use this fix when:
- Windows Update began reporting the error
- SFC or CBS logs mention the file
- Several Windows components are missing
- A failed update or repair preceded the problem
- The Canon package installer itself cannot complete
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC then checks and replaces damaged protected system files. Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control appears.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Run Windows Update again and retest the affected application.
Microsoft documents this procedure in its System File Checker repair guidance and Windows image repair documentation.

If DISM says that source files could not be found, Windows may need a matching repair source:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
Replace the example path with a repair source that closely matches the installed Windows release and edition. Do not use a random Windows folder or an unrelated installation image.
DISM and SFC may repair Windows servicing files, but they are not guaranteed to reinstall a third-party Canon payload. If the commands complete successfully and cnhl610.dll remains missing, return to the exact Canon driver installation.
Repeating DISM and SFC without knowing which component changed can make troubleshooting slow. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for repair issues and show what needs attention; its repair actions require the full version, and Microsoft’s commands remain the appropriate first-line Windows repair method.
Fix 3: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Older Canon packages have both x86 and amd64 servicing records. A 32-bit application may need the x86 version, while a 64-bit application needs the amd64 version.
Windows folder names cause confusion:
System32normally contains 64-bit system files on 64-bit Windows.SysWOW64normally contains 32-bit system files on 64-bit Windows.
Do not choose a folder based only on its name, and do not copy an x86 DLL over an amd64 DLL or vice versa.
To check Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Look at System type.
To check whether the failing application is 32-bit or 64-bit, open Task Manager while it is running. On some Windows installations, 32-bit processes are marked with (32 bit).
The correct solution is to install the Canon package matching the device and application. Public indexes report conflicting file sizes and architecture labels, so those values should not be used to select a replacement file.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
If the file disappeared after a security scan, cleanup operation, or software update:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving
cnhl610.dllor Canon software. - Record the detected path and action.
- Do not restore the file automatically.
- Reinstall the Canon package from the official Canon support portal.
- Run a full security scan.
Restore a quarantined file only when its original location and publisher match the legitimate Canon driver package. Do not disable antivirus protection to install an unverified DLL.

A file that claims to be Canon but is located in a temporary folder, an unfamiliar download directory, or an unrelated application folder deserves additional scrutiny.
Fix 5: Verify the file’s location and publisher
If cnhl610.dll still exists, verify it before attempting recovery.
- Press Windows + E to open File Explorer.
- Search the Windows system drive for
cnhl610.dll. - Right-click the result and select Open file location.
- Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Check the Details tab for Canon-related metadata.
- Check the Digital Signatures tab when available.
- Use View Certificate to inspect the signer.
- Note the complete file path.
A legitimate copy should be associated with the Canon driver installation or an appropriate Windows DriverStore package. A file in an arbitrary application directory is not automatically malicious, but it should not be trusted solely because its filename is correct.
If the file exists but Windows reports that the specified module could not be found, a dependency may be missing. The message does not always mean that the named DLL itself is absent. The file could also be corrupted, the wrong architecture, unsigned, or incompatible with the calling Canon software.
Do not copy the DLL or run regsvr32
Do not download cnhl610.dll from a random DLL website. The file may contain malware, belong to the wrong Canon package, use the wrong architecture, or fail because its related driver files and dependencies are still missing.
Manual copying into System32, SysWOW64, or an application folder can also interfere with Windows servicing and create DLL search-order problems.
regsvr32 is not a general DLL repair command. It is intended for DLL or ActiveX components that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that cnhl610.dll is a self-registering component. Running regsvr32 cnhl610.dll may produce an entry-point error and will not rebuild a Canon driver package.
Microsoft explains the command’s purpose in its regsvr32 documentation and its Regsvr32 troubleshooting guidance.
Fix 6: Use System Restore or Windows recovery
Use System Restore when the problem began after a driver removal, cleanup operation, update, or failed repair and a restore point exists from before the failure.

- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point.
- Select Finish.
Back up important files first. System Restore is appropriate only when the restore point predates the problem and you understand which applications or drivers may be rolled back.
If DISM and SFC fail, Windows Update remains broken, or multiple system files are damaged, use Windows Recovery options or a repair installation. Reinstall the Canon package afterward.

Collect information before trying more replacements:
- Note the exact program named in the error.
- Check Settings > Windows Update > Update history.
- Check Windows Security > Protection history.
- Review Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application.
- Inspect the application’s installation folder.
- Review the relevant CBS log if SFC reported corruption.
- Remove and reinstall the exact Canon utility as well as the device driver.
- Test the device in another supported Canon application.
If only one old utility fails, that utility may be loading an incompatible or incomplete private dependency. If several unrelated Windows programs fail, prioritize DISM, SFC, Windows Update, and recovery instead of repeatedly reinstalling Canon software.
FAQ
Is cnhl610.dll a Windows system file?
It can appear in Windows DriverStore records, but it is associated with Canon imaging support rather than being a normal Microsoft runtime or universal Windows component.
Which Canon printer or scanner uses it?
No authoritative public source identifies one current Canon model. The filename is associated with the Canon WIA driver package wiaca00a.inf, so identify the device from installed Canon software, Device Manager, or the erroring application.
Should I put it in System32 or SysWOW64?
No. Install the complete Canon package. Windows chooses the correct location and architecture.
Why does another application report the error?
That application may launch a Canon helper, access WIA, or load an old Canon component. The program named in the message is not necessarily the original owner of the DLL.
Will reinstalling Visual C++ fix it?
There is no evidence that cnhl610.dll is a Visual C++ runtime. Reinstall a runtime only if a separate diagnostic identifies that runtime as missing.
What does “the specified module could not be found” mean?
It can mean that a dependency required by cnhl610.dll is missing. Check the complete Canon package, architecture, file integrity, and application logs.
Recommended Free Tools
Is the file malware?
The filename alone cannot prove that. Verify its path, metadata, signature, and relationship to the Canon driver package. If those do not match, scan the system and reinstall from an official source rather than restoring the file manually.
