Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before changing files, record:
- Which program shows the error: a Canon utility, scanning application, printing software, or another program.
- Whether it appears during scanning, printing, program startup, Windows login, or only after connecting a device.
- The Canon printer or scanner model involved.
- Whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Whether the problem began after a Windows update, driver update, device replacement, or antivirus alert.

cnhl750s.dll is associated with the Canon Inkjet WIA Driver. Windows Image Acquisition, or WIA, is Microsoft’s framework for scanners and cameras, while the individual device driver is supplied by the hardware manufacturer. This makes cnhl750s.dll a driver component, not a general Windows, Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET runtime file.
The safest repair is to reinstall the complete Canon driver package for the exact printer or scanner. Do not begin by copying a DLL into a Windows system folder.

1. Reinstall the exact Canon driver package
This is the most likely fix, particularly when the error began after removing Canon software, replacing a printer, reinstalling Windows, or cleaning old drivers.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesRemove the damaged Canon installation
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for Canon software.
- Remove the Canon printer or scanner driver and related Canon scanning utilities.
- Restart Windows.
Do not remove unrelated printer software unless you know it belongs to the affected Canon device. If the Canon package has its own uninstall program, use that first.

Install the correct replacement
- Identify the exact model printed on the printer or scanner.
- Go to Canon’s official support and downloads site.
- Select the device model.
- Select your installed Windows version and processor architecture.
- Download the current driver package listed for that model.
- For PIXMA-style multifunction devices, look for MP Drivers and, if provided, IJ Scan Utility.
- For imageCLASS or MF devices, look for MFDrivers or Scanner Driver, followed by MF Scan Utility if Canon lists it separately.
- If the installer requests that you disconnect USB, unplug the cable before continuing.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation, reconnect the device when instructed, and restart Windows.
After restarting, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners on Windows 11, or Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners on Windows 10. Confirm that the Canon device appears there.
Test both the Canon utility and the operation that previously failed. If scanning now opens normally and printing completes without the DLL message, the driver package was the problem.
Why the complete package matters
A WIA driver can depend on more than one file. The installer may also add an INF file, catalog file, device configuration, related libraries, and Windows device registration. Restoring only cnhl750s.dll may leave those pieces missing.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Public file inventories also disagree about the file’s exact version, size, and architecture. That is why a DLL copied from a third-party download page is not a reliable substitute for the model-specific Canon installer.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the manual work of hunting through several device entries and guessing which driver is stale; its free scan shows detected driver problems, while driver installation and repair are handled by the full version. For this file, still use the exact Canon package when Canon provides one.
2. Check Device Manager for a broken or hidden device
If reinstalling Canon software did not help, Windows may still be using an old, incomplete, or mismatched device entry.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, Imaging devices, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for the Canon device, an entry with a yellow warning icon, or an Unknown device.
- Right-click the affected entry and select Properties.
- Read the message under Device status.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and driver date.
- Select Uninstall Device if the entry is clearly the old or failed Canon device.
- If offered, select Attempt to remove the driver for this device.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the current Canon installer again.
If the device is not visible, select View > Show hidden devices in Device Manager. Faded Canon entries can represent old installations left behind after a device replacement. Remove only entries that clearly belong to the affected Canon hardware.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Success means the device appears without a warning icon and the Canon utility can find it. If Device Manager reports that the driver is not suitable for the device, you probably selected the wrong model or package.
3. Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
A message such as “not designed to run on Windows” or “contains an error” can indicate that the driver is damaged or that the wrong architecture was installed. The same issue can occur when a 32-bit application requests a dependency that is not compatible with the installed driver.
Check Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System > About.
- Read System type under Device specifications.
Use the Canon package listed for that Windows release and architecture. Do not infer compatibility from a file’s name or from an online inventory. Do not place a 32-bit replacement into C:WindowsSystem32 or a 64-bit replacement into C:WindowsSysWOW64.

If the error occurs only in an older 32-bit scanning application, reinstall the Canon driver and the Canon scanning utility together. The application may be loading a dependency from its own installation directory, so replacing a Windows system file will not correct that configuration.

A security product may have removed a driver component. This is especially relevant when the file worked previously and then disappeared without a Canon uninstall.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for a recent Canon-related detection or quarantined DLL.
- Read the detected file path and threat name before taking action.
Do not disable antivirus protection to download cnhl750s.dll from an unverified source. If the file was detected as suspicious, leave it quarantined and run a full scan.
If the entry is clearly part of a Canon installation and the installer came from Canon’s official support site, reinstall the complete package rather than restoring only the quarantined file. A clean installation provides the related driver files and registration information as well.
5. Restart the Windows Image Acquisition service
This step applies mainly when the error appears during scanning rather than printing.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
services.msc. - Press Enter.
- Find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
- Double-click it.
- Set Startup type to Automatic if it is disabled.
- Select Start, or select Restart if it is already running.
- Select Apply, then OK.
Reconnect the scanner and open the Canon scanning utility. If Windows cannot start WIA, note the exact service error. Reinstalling the Canon scanner driver may still be necessary because WIA itself does not provide the vendor-specific Canon component.
Windows may also list a scanner under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners. Select the device and check its properties. If Windows cannot detect it at all, return to the Canon driver installation rather than troubleshooting the DLL in isolation.
6. Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use Windows repair commands when multiple applications show missing-system-file errors, Windows components are damaged, or the Canon installer itself fails unexpectedly. These commands generally repair Windows files, not a missing third-party Canon driver.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows after both commands complete.
- Run the Canon installer again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker because DISM can repair the component source used by SFC. If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupted files, test the Canon program again. If it reports that some files could not be repaired, install pending Windows updates, restart, and repeat the sequence once.

Outbyte PC Repair can save time when you are repeatedly hunting through Windows repair results; its free scan identifies reported problems, while automated repair is provided by the full version. It is optional, and a model-specific Canon reinstall remains the definitive fix for a missing Canon driver component.
7. Do not use regsvr32 as a routine fix
regsvr32 is intended for self-registering COM or OLE DLLs that provide the DllRegisterServer entry point. It is not a general repair command for every DLL.
A WIA driver component should normally be installed through the Canon driver installer, which handles the INF file, device association, catalogs, and related components. Running a command such as this can produce another error without repairing the driver:
regsvr32 cnhl750s.dll
Use regsvr32 only when the software vendor specifically documents that exact DLL as a self-registering component and provides the correct command. There is no verified basis for treating cnhl750s.dll as a file that should be manually registered.
8. Check for stale Canon startup entries
If the message appears at every Windows login but no Canon device is currently installed, the likely problem may be a leftover Canon utility rather than a file needed by Windows.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for an obsolete Canon utility.
- Right-click it and select Disable.
- Restart Windows.
You can also inspect Task Scheduler:
- Open Start and search for Task Scheduler.
- Select Task Scheduler Library.
- Look for tasks clearly associated with old Canon software.
- Check the Actions pane to see what executable they launch.
- Disable or remove an obsolete Canon task only when you are certain it belongs to an uninstalled device.
Do not disable a current Canon utility merely because its name is unfamiliar. If you no longer own the device, uninstalling its obsolete Canon software is cleaner than copying the missing DLL back.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.9. Use System Restore only after a known change
System Restore is a fallback when the problem began immediately after a driver update or software installation and a suitable restore point exists.
- Open Start and search for Create a restore point.
- Open the result.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point dated before the Canon error began.
- Review the affected programs.
- Start the restore and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore does not replace the need for the correct current Canon package. After restoring, install the appropriate Canon driver if the device still does not work. Do not choose a restore point merely because it is old; use one tied to the known change.
What the common errors mean
- “cnhl750s.dll is missing from your computer”: the file or its installation path is unavailable.
- “cnhl750s.dll was not found”: the requesting program could not locate the component.
- “Error loading cnhl750s.dll”: the file may be damaged, incompatible, or missing a dependency.
- “The specified module could not be found”: the named DLL may exist while one of its dependencies is missing.
- “Not designed to run on Windows”: suspect corruption, wrong architecture, or an unsuitable old driver package.
If the Canon reinstall still fails
Collect these details before contacting Canon support or continuing troubleshooting:
- Exact error text.
- Canon printer or scanner model.
- Windows edition and system type.
- Name of the program that displays the error.
- Whether the failure occurs during scanning, printing, startup, or login.
- Full path Windows reports for
cnhl750s.dll. - Device Manager status and driver provider.
- Any antivirus detection or quarantine path.
- Canon installer error or log details.
The full path matters. A file requested from a Canon driver directory is a different case from a file with the Canon name sitting inside an unrelated application folder. If the path is unexpected, run a full malware scan and do not replace the file manually.

FAQ
Is cnhl750s.dll a real Windows file?
It appears to be a real Canon Inkjet WIA Driver component, but it is not a standard Microsoft Windows DLL. WIA is part of Windows; the Canon device component is supplied separately.
Which Canon printer installed it?
The filename alone cannot identify the exact printer or scanner model. Use the device model, installed Canon software, and the driver package listed for that model.
Should I download cnhl750s.dll separately?
No. Random DLL download sites can provide malware, the wrong version, or the wrong architecture, and the isolated file may not include the driver registration and dependencies required by WIA. Use the official Canon support package instead.
Is this a Visual C++ or DirectX problem?
There is no verified basis for treating cnhl750s.dll as a Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET component. Reinstalling those runtimes is not the primary fix.
Will copying the file to System32 fix it?
Usually not. Canon driver files belong in the package’s installed driver location and may require INF registration and related files. Copying a DLL into a system directory can create a second, harder-to-trace mismatch.
Should I run regsvr32?
Not routinely. Use the Canon installer unless Canon specifically documents self-registration for the exact component.
What if the error appears only while scanning?
Restart the Windows Image Acquisition service, confirm the Canon scanner is selected in the Canon utility, and reinstall the model-specific scanner driver and scan utility if necessary.
What is the correct first repair?
Identify the Canon model, remove the damaged Canon package, restart Windows, and install the current driver package intended for that model and your Windows architecture.
