The procedure below covers the Realms 1.21.1 requirements as well as the version differences found in other Cobblemon packs. The safest baseline is a clean server-pack installation, an accepted EULA, matching client and server files, and a readable logs/latest.log.

Do not start by deleting random jars or changing performance settings. “Cobblemon Mod is not working” can describe several unrelated failures, and each needs different evidence.
The server never launches
If the process closes immediately, stops during dependency checks, or reports a missing class, treat it as a startup or loader problem. Save the first console output and the first logs/latest.log before trying again; repeated launches can overwrite the useful details. A crash report in the server’s crash-reports folder is also important.

The server launches but the world will not load
A crash after the loader starts often points to a mod, configuration, datapack, or world-state problem. Record whether the failure occurs while creating a new world or only when opening an existing one. That distinction determines whether you test a fresh world or a backed-up copy of the old world.
The server runs, but content is missing
Missing Pokémon, recipes, blocks, or commands commonly indicate that an add-on is absent, on the wrong version, or installed on only one side. Compare the complete pack rather than copying a single jar.
You are disconnected or cannot find the server
“Connection refused,” a timeout, and “server not found” are network or readiness symptoms, not proof that Cobblemon itself is broken. Confirm that startup completed and that the process is listening before changing mods.
The server is playable but kicks or lags
A flying kick is controlled by server.properties. Slow exploration can involve memory, CPU, chunk generation, storage, or the network. These issues require different checks from a registry mismatch.
Confirm the platform and pack requirements
Cobblemon is a Minecraft Java Edition mod; it is not available for Bedrock Edition. The general installation guidance lists current Cobblemon availability for Minecraft 1.21.1. Your downloaded pack, however, is the final authority: other packs can target a different Minecraft release, loader, or Java runtime.

The 8 GB figure is a starting point from the Cobblemon Realms installation guidance, not a universal guarantee. Player count, world size, view distance, and additional mods can require adjustment. Set memory only after confirming that the machine has enough physical RAM for the operating system and other services.

The Cobblemon project supports Fabric and NeoForge distributions. A pack that declares Fabric must be installed with Fabric; a pack that declares NeoForge must use NeoForge. Forge, Fabric, and NeoForge jars are not interchangeable. Read the pack’s manifest or installation instructions and use its exact Minecraft, loader, Cobblemon, and add-on versions.
Check both sides before connecting
The joining client and server need the same Minecraft version, loader, Cobblemon version, and add-on versions. A client can launch successfully and still be rejected when one of those values differs. Keep a written version list for the server and compare it with the client profile before troubleshooting the network.
Build a clean, known-good server baseline
When files have been copied between updates, the fastest reliable repair is usually a fresh extraction of the complete matching server pack. Do this in an empty folder instead of trying to guess which old files are harmful.
- Stop the old server completely. Close the console and confirm that no Java process is still using the world. Do not overwrite a running installation.
- Back up the entire installation. Include the world, every dimension, player data,
server.properties, permissions and operator files, configs, scripts, and administrative files. Keep the backup outside the server directory. - Download the exact server-pack archive. It must correspond to the client profile’s Minecraft, loader, Cobblemon, and add-on versions.
- Extract the whole archive into an empty folder. Do not copy only the
modsdirectory. Packs can depend on scripts, configuration, default configurations, libraries, datapacks, and startup files. - Use the supplied startup script. Run
run.baton Windows orrun.shon systems where that script is supplied. Avoid replacing the pack’s launch arguments until the baseline works. - Handle the EULA prompt. If the first launch creates
eula.txt, read the Minecraft EULA. Seteula=trueonly if you agree to it, then run the script again. - Wait for a completed startup. A usable server normally reports that it has finished loading and is ready for connections. Inspect
logs/latest.lograther than assuming that an open terminal means the server is ready. - Test the clean installation before restoring changes. Start with the supplied files and a new test world. Add your backed-up world or customizations only after the clean server starts and a client can connect.
This baseline separates a damaged or incomplete installation from a problem in the world or custom configuration. Keep the clean folder intact so it can be used for later comparisons.

Repair incompatible-mod and registry-mismatch errors
An incompatible-mod warning or registry-mismatch disconnect is evidence that the client and server disagree about registered content. It is not fixed by opening a port or allocating more memory.
Compare the exact version set
- Write down the Minecraft version on both sides.
- Confirm that both sides use the same loader family and loader version required by the pack.
- Compare Cobblemon and every add-on jar, including optional-looking dependencies.
- Remove stale jars left by an earlier update. Two versions of one mod in the same folder can produce confusing dependency or registry errors.
- Check that Fabric files have not been placed in a NeoForge installation, or vice versa.
Do not “fix” a mismatch by downloading the newest jar you can find. The correct version is the one declared by the specific pack and client profile.
Test updates without risking the live world
For a failed update, keep the old server and its backup untouched. Create a fresh server-pack installation, copy the world to a separate test folder, and launch that copy. Inspect the copied world’s serverconfig and datapacks areas when the crash appears during world loading. This shows whether the problem follows the world or exists in the base pack.
Why copying only “mods” fails
A Cobblemon pack can require synchronized scripts, configuration, default configurations, libraries, and datapacks. Copying only mods, or combining those files with an older config directory, can leave registries and settings out of sync. Rebuild from the complete pack first, then migrate only the files you have deliberately reviewed.

Handle startup dependency errors and crashes
A startup dependency error is not solved the same way as a server timeout, and performance tuning will not repair a wrong-loader jar. Read the first meaningful error in the log, not only the final “server stopped” line.

Use the log to locate the failing phase
- Before the loader initializes: check Java, the launch script, and loader compatibility.
- During mod discovery: check missing dependencies, duplicate jars, and wrong loader files.
- During registry or datapack loading: compare Cobblemon/add-on versions and test a fresh world.
- After the world begins loading: test the backed-up world copy against a clean pack.
Keep the complete logs/latest.log and any crash report. Do not paste only the last line; the first stack trace and the listed mod identifiers usually contain the actionable information.
Fix “connection refused,” timeout, and server-not-found errors
Work from the server outward. A port-forwarding change cannot help if the server has not finished starting, and a running server cannot be reached if the firewall or router drops the connection.

- Confirm readiness. Watch the server console until startup is complete. Check that the process remains running after a connection attempt.
- Confirm the configured port. Minecraft uses TCP port 25565 by default. Read
server.properties; ifserver-porthas been changed, players must use that port and the router rule must match it. - Test locally first. From the host machine, connect using the local address. A local failure points to the server process, bind address, or local firewall rather than the router.
- Allow the Java server process through the host firewall. Create an inbound TCP rule for the configured port, or allow the Java process when the operating system presents that option.
- Configure router port forwarding for remote players. Forward the configured TCP port to the computer running the server. Give that computer a stable local address so the rule does not point to a different device later.
- Use the correct address. Players outside your home network need the network’s public address and forwarded port; players on the same network generally use the host’s local address.
- Verify the client profile. The joining player must launch the exact Minecraft, loader, Cobblemon, and add-on set required by the server. A network connection does not bypass a mod mismatch.
If local connections work but remote connections time out, focus on the host firewall, router forwarding, and upstream network restrictions. If both fail, return to logs/latest.log and the server’s listening state before changing router settings.
Stop players being kicked for flying
For a kick that says a player is flying, open the server’s server.properties and set:
allow-flight=trueSave the file and restart the server so the setting is loaded. This changes the server’s flight check; it does not correct a mod mismatch, a disconnected client, or general lag. If the kick continues, record the exact message and check whether a movement, vehicle, or gameplay mod is involved.

Investigate lag and slow exploration
Lag has several possible causes, so change one category at a time and observe the result.

- Memory: Check whether the Java process is approaching its allocated heap. Starting the Realms 1.21.1 guidance at about 8 GB does not mean every machine should allocate all available RAM.
- CPU: World simulation, entities, and chunk generation can saturate a processor even when memory appears available.
- Chunk generation: Exploring new terrain creates work spikes. The multiplayer guidance lists pre-generating terrain with Chunky as a maintenance option.
- Storage: A slow or nearly full drive can delay world saves and chunk loading.
- Network: High latency or packet loss affects movement and block interaction even when the server’s CPU is idle.
Measure whether the delay occurs for everyone or only for one player. Everyone seeing the same pauses suggests server-side work; one player’s symptoms suggest their route, connection, or client machine.
Update or migrate without destroying the world
Major updates deserve a separate migration rather than an in-place overwrite.
- Stop the old server and make a complete backup, including all dimensions, player data, administrative files, and the world directory.
- Read the release notes for the target pack and note changes to Minecraft, the loader, Cobblemon, add-ons, configuration, and datapacks.
- Prepare a fresh target installation from the complete matching server pack.
- Launch it once with a test world and confirm that the loader and mods initialize.
- Stop the target server and copy a backup of the existing world into it. Keep the original backup untouched.
- Start the migrated copy and inspect
logs/latest.logfor registry, datapack, or configuration errors. - Only after the copy works should you schedule the live cutover.
Copying only mods, config, kubejs, or defaultconfigs is not a safe full migration. Those directories can be version-dependent and may conflict with the target pack.
Prepare a support report that can be acted on
When you ask for help, provide enough context for someone to reproduce the failure without guessing.
- The complete
logs/latest.logfrom the failed run. - Any crash report generated for that run.
- Exact Minecraft, loader, Cobblemon, modpack, and add-on versions.
- Whether you are self-hosting or using managed hosting, and the operating system where the server runs.
- The precise stage of failure and numbered steps that reproduce it.
- The server’s relevant
server.propertiessetting, such as a non-default port orallow-flightvalue. - For battle-specific behavior, the relevant battle log when one is available.
Remove public or private IP addresses, authentication tokens, account identifiers, and other sensitive values before posting logs. Do not replace the entire log with a screenshot of the final error line.
When managed hosting is the practical escalation
Self-hosting is useful when you control the machine, firewall, router, backups, and update process. It becomes costly when the server is reachable only intermittently, the router cannot forward ports, or you cannot maintain Java and pack updates safely.

Program terms and features can change, so confirm the current offer before committing. Hosting does not remove the need for matching client versions or useful logs; it mainly reduces machine, network, and maintenance work.
