Blood Codes are Code Vein II’s swappable build framework: each changes your base attributes and helps define your fighting style, favored weapons, usable Formae, and Traits. To choose one, consider more than its stats: equipment Burden affects whether an attribute is Overburdened and can change your dodge, while Boosters, Formae, and Partner abilities shape how the build works in combat.
What are Blood Codes in Code Vein II?
Bandai Namco describes Blood Codes as “the physical manifestation of the power held by an individual Revenant.” They form the foundation of build customization. Swapping a Blood Code works like changing equipment: it changes your base stats without requiring you to reallocate parameters or retrain your character. Each code also has its own Traits.

That makes a Blood Code more than a class label. It affects which weapons and abilities suit a build, but the code is only one part of the setup. Your gear’s Burden, Trait conditions, Formae, and Partner can all affect how it performs.
What do the six attributes affect?
The official system description assigns each attribute a primary role:

Use these roles to match a code to the way you want to fight: Strength is relevant to heavy weapons, Dexterity to light weapons, and Mind or Determination to magic Formae. Vitality and Fortitude relate to survivability resources and stamina. The official overview does not provide a complete code-by-code stat table, so these roles alone are not enough to rank individual codes.
How Burden affects attributes and dodging
Weapons, Jails, and Defensive Formae apply Burden to corresponding abilities. When an ability’s Burden exceeds its corresponding Attribute, that attribute is Overburdened. Overburdening is not described as purely harmful: Bandai Namco says it produces both a Benefit and a Penalty. The player can try to compensate for the penalty through skilled play.

Burden also determines dodge behavior at two stated thresholds:
- High-performance quick step: Burden for every Ability Score must remain at or below half that score.
- Low-performance heavy roll: two or more Ability Scores must be in the Overload state.
These are the specific dodge conditions stated in the official system overview. It does not give a complete table of Burden thresholds for every ability or every Blood Code. When tuning a build, check how your equipped items affect the relevant Ability Scores rather than assuming a weapon or code alone determines the dodge.

How to choose a Blood Code for a build
Start with the role you want the character to fill, then check whether the full setup supports it:
- Choose a combat focus. Match the code’s attributes to your intended weapon or Formae. Strength primarily supports heavy-weapon attack power; Dexterity supports light weapons; Mind and Determination relate to Formae.
- Check your equipment Burden. Weapons, Jails, and Defensive Formae contribute Burden. Compare it with the corresponding Ability Scores and note whether you meet either stated dodge condition.
- Coordinate Traits and Boosters. Boosters can expand Revenant abilities and provide effects linked to attributes or particular weapon types. Check the activation conditions of Blood Code and Booster Traits so they can work together.
- Account for your Partner. Link Traits activate while accompanied by a Partner character, and Partner Trait Bonuses also contribute to the gameplay setup. The official guide says Link Traits depend on the bond remaining strong.
- Choose Formae for their role and cost. Formae use Ichor drained from foes. Weapon Formae include combat, magic, and support types; Defensive Formae provide a guard, counter, or evasive maneuver.
This approach compares builds by their practical fit rather than relying on an unsupported universal ranking. The official materials described here do not establish a complete current roster or code-by-code stats and unlock conditions.

How to increase Blood Code proficiency
To increase proficiency, defeat enemies that match the strength of the equipped Blood Code. The official FAQ says weaker enemies provide lower proficiency gains. If progress is slow, try enemies closer to the code’s strength.
