Each is framed around a different combat role, from quick, adaptable sword combos to heavy stance-breaking blows and melee-and-ranged flexibility. Your choice also affects how you build around Drain Attacks, Ichor, Jails, and Formae.

These descriptions come from Bandai Namco’s official weapon types article. The list uses the labels “Twin Blade” and “Rune Blade”; a PlayStation Blog announcement uses “Dual Swords” and “Rune Blades” when discussing the additions.
How weapon choice connects to Drain Attacks, Ichor, and Formae
A Drain Attack extracts blood and grants Ichor, which you spend on Formae. That makes a weapon’s attack pattern relevant to more than direct damage: a fast-hitting weapon can support a different rhythm of wound-building and draining than a weapon designed around a heavy individual blow.

In a January 8, 2026 interview, director Hiroshi Yoshimura said Twin Blades “prioritize speed and spin,” and explained that hits can stack wounds to maximize Ichor from blood drains. That is the director’s explanation of the intended synergy, not an independent performance test or proof that Twin Blade is best for every build.
Formae also connect weapon choice to your setup. The official gameplay guide distinguishes three categories:

- Weapon Formae: Up to four can be equipped to a weapon. They are divided into Combat, Magic, and Support types.
- Bequeathed Formae: Summon a unique weapon for a powerful finishing attack.
- Defensive Formae: Provide a guard, counter, or evasive maneuver.
Producer Keita Iizuka said weapon Formae can be equipped directly onto weapons and that the game has more type-specific options. In practice, this means a weapon’s published role is only one part of the decision: consider which abilities you want attached to it and how those abilities support your approach.
How Jails can change the feel of a weapon
Jails have their own traits and change stats and Drain Attacks, according to the official gameplay guide. The same weapon may therefore play differently with another Jail: weapon class defines its attack style, while the Jail can alter the character and drain-action context around it. Consider both together rather than treating a weapon description as a complete build recommendation.

Which Code Vein II weapon should you choose?
Start with the combat behavior you want, then account for the way you plan to generate Ichor and spend it on Formae. These are role-based starting points drawn from the publisher’s descriptions, not tested rankings.
- For adaptable, quick melee: Try the One-Handed Sword, whose official description emphasizes easy handling, quick combos, and varied Formae.
- For heavy hits and reach: Consider the Two-Handed Sword. For stance disruption and shockwave attacks, consider the Hammer instead.
- For rapid attacks and wound-building: Twin Blade is the clearest fit in the official descriptions, with its stated Drain Attack synergy.
- For switching between melee and ranged attacks: Bayonet is explicitly built around blade attacks and gunfire. Rune Blade is the paired-blade option described as working with ranged attacks and ability-enhancing incantations.
- For mid-range coverage: Halberd offers a combination of reach, broad sweeps, and thrusts.
Then ask whether your planned Formae complement that role and whether the Jail’s traits and drain actions suit the way you want to fight. The official sources do not establish exact damage, scaling, status values, acquisition locations, upgrade costs, or patch-specific weapon rankings, so they do not support a definitive “best weapon” answer.

Are Twin Blade and Rune Blade new weapons?
Yes. Bandai Namco identifies Twin Blade and Rune Blade as new weapon types alongside the existing classes. The official English weapons page uses those singular names, while a PlayStation Blog announcement refers to them as “Dual Swords” and “Rune Blades.”

Bandai Namco announced general availability beginning January 30, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Check the relevant platform’s store for the edition and format offered in your region; that availability announcement does not establish stock or physical-disc availability for a particular retailer or market.
