CODEX announced its retirement in February 2022, in a release associated with The Sims 4: My Wedding Stories. The eight-year framing comes from reporting that the group was founded in late February 2014. CODEX’s reported explanation was that it had achieved its original goal and no longer saw the competition that had sustained its interest.
When did CODEX announce its retirement?
Fossbytes reported on February 24, 2022, that CODEX—also known as CDX—announced its retirement alongside a release associated with The Sims 4: My Wedding Stories. The outlet described the group as founded at the end of February 2014, which accounts for the eight-year framing. The original release note was not directly inspected for this account.
Did CODEX say why it was retiring?
According to Fossbytes’ account of the announcement, CODEX cited a lack of competition and waning interest in hacks. A contemporaneous report by TechGamingReport quoted the farewell message as saying: “Now, years after we achieved our original goal, we think it’s time to move on.” That excerpt is attributed to CODEX as quoted in the report, not as a direct examination of the original note.
This describes the group’s stated rationale as reported at the time; it does not establish its private motivations beyond that statement. The reporting cited here does not establish that law enforcement action caused the retirement.
