The most detailed available formation roster for Dwarves: Glory, Death and Loot lists 20 formations: 10 elemental formations, seven unit formations and three Battlerunes. The list comes from Power Up Gaming’s guide dated January 26, 2026—not an official developer roster—so treat the reported unlocks and effects as guide information, especially where they conflict with a community wiki. Read the guide.
How the formation list is counted
Power Up Gaming groups its 20 reported formations into three categories. Elemental formations reward status effects or teams built around a particular damage element; unit formations depend on professions, weapon types or staff users; and Battlerunes require named Ultimates. Nintendo describes the game as a roguelike auto-battler in which players recruit, equip and position up to ten dwarves, and says preparation—including formation choices—can decide a fight. Nintendo’s listing does not publish a roster or verify the guide’s count. Nintendo’s Switch listing.
The older community Fandom page reports 13 formations rather than 20 and contains a partial roster. Because of that disagreement, the list below follows the more detailed January 2026 guide; it should not be read as an official or in-game-verified count. The community formations page.
Elemental formations (10)
These formations require either widespread access to a status effect or a minimum number of dwarves using a particular element. Thresholds and effects in the table are reported by Power Up Gaming; they are not independently confirmed here.

| Formation | Guide-reported unlock condition | Guide-reported effect |
|---|---|---|
| Blood Hunters | At least 80% of dwarves have a chance to inflict Bleeding. | Deal 30% more damage to bleeding targets and leech 10% of damage dealt as life. |
| Burning Legion | At least 80% of dwarves have a chance to burn enemies. | Increase the chance to burn by 10% and burning damage by 50%. |
| Order of Frost | At least 80% of dwarves have a chance to freeze enemies. | The chance to freeze increases by the same amount as the chance of adding a Chilled stack. |
| Soldiers of Heaven | At least 80% of dwarves have a chance to shock enemies. | Shocked enemies deal 20% less damage and take 20% more damage. |
| Bludgeon Company | Five or more dwarves use the Physical element. | Targets take additional damage based on missing health; the guide does not provide a complete scaling formula. |
| Dark Pact | Five or more dwarves use the Dark element. | Raises the maximum Fear stacks by one for each five dwarves using Dark. |
| Holy Alliance | Five or more dwarves use the Holy element. | Holy damage has a 10% chance to apply Fractured. |
| Icebreakers | Five or more dwarves use the Ice element. | Each Chilled stack increases the chance to freeze by 10%. |
| Riders on the Storm | Five or more dwarves use the Thunder element. | Dwarves gain movement speed based on distance, up to 25% according to the guide. |
| Squires of Fires | Five or more dwarves use the Fire element. | Deal 4% more damage per Fire-element dwarf against Burning targets. |
The Fandom page provides extra scaling details for some of these effects, including Bludgeon Company, Holy Alliance, Icebreakers and Riders on the Storm. Since that page’s total count differs from the January guide, confirm those added details in the game before relying on them.
Unit formations (7)
Unit formations hinge on the clan’s jobs or equipment, so check the whole lineup—not just the dwarf intended to benefit. Several conditions or effect descriptions differ between the January guide and the community wiki.

| Formation | Guide-reported unlock condition | Guide-reported effect |
|---|---|---|
| Bannerlords | At least three Supporters in the clan. | When a Supporter uses an Ultimate, it heals every clan member for 10% of that Supporter’s maximum HP. |
| Berserkers | At least three users of two-handed melee weapons. | The guide reports a parry-chance benefit for two-handed melee users, but its wording differs from the wiki’s description that all clan members gain the Berserker passive. Check the current in-game tooltip for the recipients and scaling. |
| Pack of Thieves | At least three Thieves. | Poison damage increases by 10%, and poison can be stacked one additional time per Thief. |
| Rangers | At least three Archers or Cannoneers. | The guide describes a DEX-related jump-back benefit for Archers and Cannoneers. The wiki additionally reports armor penetration for all clan members; confirm the full effect in-game. |
| Wizardry | At least five staff users. | The guide reports a 30% chance for staff users to reactivate an Ultimate after use. The wiki instead describes a 5% chance per Wizard, so the exact chance needs in-game verification. |
| Crusade | Only Knights, Priests, Paladins or Warpriests; at least three Priests, according to the guide. | Basic melee attacks cause area damage proportional to weight. The wiki also requires at least three Knights, a condition the guide’s table does not state; verify the full requirement in-game. |
| Ragtag | All seven base professions in the clan. | Increases each clan member’s primary traits by 15%, according to the guide. The wiki describes a 15% increase to stats more broadly. |
Battlerune formations (3)
These formations are tied to specific Ultimate names. The Power Up guide’s table gives the following combinations and says each grants access to its Battlerune during combat.
| Formation | Guide-reported required Ultimates | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Battlerune: Cataclysm | Harvest, Nightmare and Void Slash. | Grants access to Battlerune: Cataclysm during combat. |
| Battlerune: Celestial Arrows | Staggering Shot, Piercing Arrow and Arrowgance. | Grants access to Battlerune: Celestial Arrows during combat. |
| Battlerune: Inferno | Phoenix, Eruption and Pyromaniac. | Grants access to Battlerune: Inferno during combat. |
Ultimate names are not fully consistent across the references. The Fandom page associates Harvest with Crimson Scythe, Nightmare with Night Staff, and Void Slash with Void Sword; it associates the Celestial Arrows skills with bows. For Inferno, it spells the skill “Pyromania (Serpent Staff),” while Power Up Gaming’s table says “Pyromaniac.” Check the current skill names in the game rather than assuming the spellings are interchangeable.

Choosing a formation for your party
There is no supported best-to-worst ranking across all 20 formations: the available guides do not provide controlled comparisons or comparable combat results. Instead, match the unlock condition and effect to the party you can actually field.
- Build around a status effect: Blood Hunters, Burning Legion, Order of Frost and Soldiers of Heaven have an 80% chance-of-status threshold. They suit a lineup already built to apply the relevant effect.
- Concentrate an element: Bludgeon Company, Dark Pact, Holy Alliance, Icebreakers, Riders on the Storm and Squires of Fires require at least five users of the named element.
- Check professions and weapons: Bannerlords, Pack of Thieves, Rangers, Wizardry, Crusade and Ragtag depend on specific roles or equipment. Berserkers likewise calls for two-handed melee users.
- Plan Battlerunes around skill access: Assemble the named Ultimates and confirm their current in-game labels before building a party around one of the three Battlerunes.
Generic tactical positions such as Line, Column, Wedge and Box are not part of this named unlock roster. Nintendo’s software description sums up the distinction between automatic combat and player planning: “Your dwarves fight automatically, but the outcome depends on your preparation.” Nintendo’s software description.
