To complete the Abyss of King Sagremor in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, enter through the underwater opening in the lake northeast of Cuanacht, cross the Abyss to Sagremor Castle, help Claire and the Midwife, then return to the Custodian to reach the throne. Defeat Queen Sagremor and speak with the King to recover the right-hand Cracked Menhir Rites Tablet. This is one branch of Menhir Rites, not the whole quest.
How to enter the Abyss of Sagremor
- Start the Menhir Rites quest with Maggot, who directs you to the Abyss.
- Travel northeast from Cuanacht, past the Cuanacht Waterworks, to the lake.
- Dive into the middle of the lake and swim through the visible opening to enter the Abyss.

How to cross the Abyss and reach Sagremor Castle
Follow the route through the subterranean area toward the castle. The Neoseeker walkthrough reports Kyreth, Marrowghasts, and a Skeleton Archmage guarding the castle approach. Kyreth uses spells and a sword with a freeze effect; the Archmage uses frost attacks and summons an undead enemy. Encounters may differ by build or game version.
Neoseeker recommends basic attacks and hit-and-run movement against the Skeleton Archmage, and advises against relying on heavy attacks because its guide says the enemy cannot be stunned. This is a walkthrough tactic, not a guarantee for every character build. Gato the merchant and Stígandr, who offers optional exposition, are mentioned as optional stops rather than progression requirements. See the route guide for these encounter notes.

How to open the route to the throne
In Sagremor Castle, speak with the Custodian in the entry hall. The Custodian sends you to help the Queen’s two sisters. Complete both sister quests, then return to the Custodian to receive the chapel keys and proceed toward the throne.
Help Claire
Take the dining-hall route and interact with the large book to reach Claire’s tower and begin Harrowing of Hearts. Complete Claire’s quest thread.

Help the Midwife
Find the Midwife’s room beyond the dining-hall route and begin Lost in the Liminal. Complete her quest thread.
The Throne of the Depths quest reference describes helping both sisters as the gate to returning to the Custodian for chapel access. Once you have the keys, go through the chapel and continue to the throne room.

Defeat Queen Sagremor and recover the tablet
Challenge Queen Sagremor in the throne room. After defeating her, speak with King Sagremor. The quest reference lists this as the final step of Throne of the Depths and identifies the reward as the Cracked Menhir Rites Tablet (right). Prodigy Gamers’ Menhir Rites guide also describes defeating the Queen and speaking with the King to recover the tablet.
Choose what happens to King Sagremor
The King conversation offers a consequential choice: let him rest, or take the fungal-spore path associated with the Fungal Envoy and Mycelium. Community quest and route guides describe different NPC-survival and loot outcomes, but those details may be version-sensitive. Read the in-game prompts carefully; if you want to preserve both options, save before addressing the King. The choice is also noted in the quest reference and a July 22, 2026 route guide, which says it checked the PC version after patch 1.25, released July 21, 2026.

How the Abyss fits into Menhir Rites
Recovering the Sagremor tablet completes only one of the quest’s two tablet threads. You must also complete Neante’s Corrupted Temple thread. After both are done, give the tablets to either Maggot or Denholm; the recipient leads to different political dialogue and outcomes. A route guide describes the tablet threads as concurrent Cuanacht progression, followed by Lord Yvain’s proposed expedition and the Grail Cycle.
