It lists 8 GB of RAM for 10- and 35-player servers, 12 GB for 70 players, and 35 GB of disk space at every tier. Those figures are historical and should not be presented as validated requirements for the Enhanced/UE5 server. Funcom’s current Enhanced specification of 16 GB RAM and an SSD describes the player’s PC, not a dedicated server.
For a new server, first decide whether you need Enhanced/UE5 or Legacy/UE4, then confirm support with your host or plan a PC self-host. The official documentation explains installation, configuration and ports, but it does not publish a current minimum or recommended hardware build for an Enhanced dedicated server.

The published server numbers—and their limits
Funcom’s development team published the following dedicated-server tiers on August 21, 2017. They are the clearest numerical server guidance available, but they predate Conan Exiles Enhanced and Unreal Engine 5. Treat them as historical reference points rather than a modern buying specification.

These values come from Funcom’s article, “Setting up your own server in Conan Exiles”, published in 2017. The CPUs are examples tied to that old table, not performance guarantees for current builds. The table also does not establish how many mods, simultaneous connections, backups or other services a machine can run comfortably.

Enhanced system requirements are for the game client
Funcom’s Enhanced system-requirements page lists 16 GB of RAM and an SSD for the PC game. Those requirements describe a computer rendering and running the game locally. A dedicated server performs a different workload: simulation, player and NPC state, persistence, networking and mod handling, without rendering the game world.
Therefore, 16 GB is not a confirmed Enhanced server minimum, and an SSD requirement for the client is not proof of a server specification. The official material currently available does not establish minimum or recommended CPU, RAM or storage for an Enhanced dedicated server. Do not turn the client page into a server shopping list.
How much RAM should you plan for?
Use the old table only as a historical baseline
The 8 GB figures for 10 and 35 players and 12 GB for 70 players show what Funcom documented in 2017. They can help you understand the scale of the original deployment tiers, but they have not been revalidated for Enhanced/UE5. They also do not include an explicit operating-system reserve, monitoring tools, databases, automated backups or large mod collections.
Do not extrapolate unsupported headroom
There is no official formula in the cited documentation for adding RAM per player or per mod. Avoid promises such as “X GB supports Y players” unless you have a current, reproducible test for the exact game version, map, mod list and operating system. If you are buying a machine for Enhanced, describe the memory choice as your own risk-managed capacity plan, not as a Funcom requirement, and leave room for the operating system and maintenance tasks.

CPU, storage and the rest of the machine
CPU
Funcom’s historical examples progress from a Core2Duo 6850 at 10 players to an i5-2400 at 35 and an i7-6700 at 70. These processors are many generations old. The list does not state clock-speed targets, core utilisation, tick-rate behaviour or modern Enhanced compatibility. It is unsafe to map those names directly to a current processor recommendation.
Storage
Every tier in the 2017 table lists 35 GB of disk space. That is a dated baseline for the server files, not a guarantee that 35 GB will cover an Enhanced installation, patches, workshop content, logs, saves and backups. Keep active saves and backups on reliable storage, and monitor free space so an update or log burst cannot stop the service.
Network and operating system
Bandwidth, latency, packet loss and firewall rules can affect play even when CPU and RAM look adequate. The official instructions document Windows-style launch files and PC self-hosting; they do not validate Linux, Wine or other unofficial routes. If you require Linux, treat it as an unsupported experiment unless Funcom or your provider explicitly confirms a supported method.

Self-hosting on PC: official installation and configuration
Funcom’s Dedicated Servers guide describes the supported PC workflow. Follow the sequence below, then test from another machine or network before inviting players.

- Install the server application. In Steam, open Library, switch the library filter to Tools, find Conan Exiles Dedicated Server, and install it.
- Set the public server identity and password. In the server installation’s configuration files, edit
Engine.iniand setServerNameandServerPasswordas required. Use a name players can distinguish from other listings. - Set administrator access separately. Edit
ServerSettings.iniand configureAdminPassword. Give this password only to people who need administrative powers; it is not the same as the join password. - Launch the service. Start
StartServer.bator runConanSandboxServer.exe, depending on how you manage the installation. Keep the console output available while testing so startup and mod errors are visible. - Open the required network paths. Create firewall and router rules for the ports your platform and features use, then confirm that the server appears in the appropriate browser and that a second account can connect.
- Document and back up the configuration. Record passwords securely, copy the configuration and save directories before major updates, and test restoring a backup rather than assuming a file copy is usable.
Ports, firewall and visibility
Funcom’s setup page identifies these default roles:
- UDP 7777: game traffic.
- UDP 7778: pinger traffic used for server discovery.
- UDP 27015: server-query traffic for PC listings.
- TCP mod-transfer connections: required for the documented PC and Epic Games Store mod-transfer scenarios; use the current Funcom instructions for the exact configuration applicable to your platform.
- TCP 25575: RCON, when you enable remote console administration.
The guide notes that a firewall exception may be necessary for visibility in the Steam server browser. If the process is running locally but nobody can see or join it, check the host firewall, router port forwarding, listening addresses and whether your internet connection uses carrier-grade NAT. Change ports only when you understand every dependent setting, and then verify the current documentation because platform and version details can change.
Self-hosting versus renting

Self-hosting makes sense when you already have a suitable PC, control over the network and time to maintain updates and backups. Renting removes most machine and connectivity administration, but the provider—not a generic “game server” label—determines whether your target version, platform and mods are actually supported.

Enhanced, Legacy and platform compatibility
Funcom’s Enhanced – Servers and Mods FAQ says clients and servers must run matching versions. It also explains that official PC servers are moving to Enhanced/UE5 while console servers remain on UE4, and that Enhanced rental details depend on hosting providers. A server that is correct for PC Enhanced is not automatically suitable for a console or Legacy community.

Before ordering or migrating, obtain written confirmation of:
- Enhanced/UE5 or Legacy/UE4 branch;
- PC, PlayStation or Xbox platform support;
- your country or data-center region and expected latency;
- player-slot limits and whether slots can be changed later;
- the exact mod system supported, including transfer behaviour;
- save migration, scheduled backups and download access; and
- the provider’s update and rollback process when Funcom ships a patch.
Funcom’s Enhanced information page and Help Center are the appropriate places to check the current transition status. A provider’s older marketing or a historical partner announcement is not proof of present Enhanced support.
A practical purchase and deployment checklist
- Identify the community. Write down the target platform, game branch, maximum concurrent players, map and mod list.
- Choose control level. Pick a PC self-host only if you can operate the machine and network; otherwise shortlist rental providers.
- Ask for version confirmation. Require the provider to state Enhanced/UE5 or Legacy/UE4 in writing.
- Validate capacity claims. Ask what hardware, player count, mod load and backup policy the quoted plan covers. Funcom’s old 8/8/12 GB table is not a current guarantee.
- Plan recovery. Decide where saves and configurations are backed up, how often, and how you will restore them.
- Test privately. Join with a second account, install the intended mods, restart the server and verify that saves, permissions and discovery survive the restart.
- Monitor after launch. Watch memory, CPU, disk free space, connection errors and save size; keep a dated change log for mods and server updates.
Troubleshooting common failures
The server starts but is invisible
Confirm the process is listening on the configured ports, allow it through the host firewall, forward the relevant UDP ports on the router and check that the query and pinger settings match the platform. Test by direct connection where supported; browser visibility can lag or fail independently of the running process.

Players receive a version or connection error
Check that every client and the server are on the same branch and build. A PC Enhanced client cannot use a Legacy/UE4 server simply because the server name is the same. After an update, restart the service and verify that installed mods match the server’s declared collection.

Mods do not download or load
Recheck the documented TCP mod-transfer arrangement for your platform, confirm that the server can reach the required services, and compare the server’s mod order and versions with the client. If a provider does not support the required transfer method, changing RAM will not fix the problem.
The server becomes unstable as the world grows
Record when instability occurs, the concurrent player count, active mods, save size and resource usage. Remove or update one mod at a time, verify free disk space and test a known-good backup. Do not claim that a particular RAM upgrade solves Enhanced instability unless you have evidence for the same build and workload.
Bottom line for 2026 planning
Use Funcom’s 2017 table—8 GB for 10 or 35 players, 12 GB for 70 and 35 GB of disk—as historical context only. The 16 GB figure on the Enhanced page belongs to the player client. For a current dedicated Enhanced server, official minimum and recommended hardware remain unspecified in the cited documentation, so the responsible path is to verify version and platform support with a host or run a controlled PC test before committing to hardware. Whichever route you choose, matching versions, correct ports, reliable backups and confirmed mod support matter as much as the machine’s headline RAM or CPU.
