There is no single best weapon in Conan Exiles. The right choice depends on your Strength or Agility build, the target’s armor, the weapon’s moveset and stamina cost, and whether you can craft it or must farm a boss. This guide ranks practical choices by those conditions, explains the Legendary, Epic and Unique tiers, and gives reliable routes for obtaining high-end weapons.

- Damage type and armor penetration: Penetration becomes increasingly valuable against heavily armored enemies. A lower-damage weapon with much higher penetration can outperform a larger number on the inventory screen.
- Status effects: Sunder, bleed and cripple change how quickly a target loses effective health or mobility.
- Moveset and stamina: Reach, attack speed, recovery time and combo shape determine how safely you can land damage. Heavy attacks cost more stamina, but Funcom increased their damage by roughly 5% to 20% depending on weapon type, and many heavy attacks apply a status effect.
- Availability: A craftable weapon you can replace immediately may be more useful than a stronger named drop that requires repeated boss kills.
Against an armored target, prioritize penetration and Sunder before chasing the highest raw damage value. Against an unarmored target, raw damage and bleed generally produce better results. Those are rules of thumb, not absolute rankings: your attributes, perks, buffs, latency and familiarity with a moveset still matter.
Weapon tiers and what they mean
Funcom’s Age of War framework separates end-game equipment into three important categories. Tier names indicate how an item is obtained and how it is positioned in the balance scheme; they do not by themselves tell you which moveset fits your character.

Legendary repair changed in July 2026
Older Age of War information said Legendary weapons and armor could not be repaired. The Legacy of the Giant-Kings update on July 21, 2026 restored Legendary repair, allowing battle-worn Legendary equipment to be repaired and kept in service deeper into the end game. When reading an older build guide, treat its “Legendaries cannot be repaired” warning as outdated unless it is explicitly discussing an earlier patch.
Best weapons by build and situation
Best Strength choices
Strength-oriented characters commonly use heavy maces, great axes and most swords. These weapons favor committed attacks, strong stagger potential and the ability to exploit openings. A heavy weapon is especially attractive when your build can sustain its stamina cost and you are fighting enemies that cannot easily interrupt you.
Hanuman’s Gada is a prominent Strength option for armored targets. A current 2026 guide lists it at 96 damage, 45% armor penetration and Sunder. Those figures are guide values for the current balance and can change with a patch; they are not a permanent specification. Its appeal is the combination of high listed damage, unusually strong penetration and an armor-reducing effect, rather than damage alone.
Mastodon Killer suits players who prefer a two-handed sword. The same current guide lists 83 damage and 22% penetration. It is a practical choice when you want two-handed reach and a Strength-friendly moveset without committing to the slowest heavy weapons.
Best Agility choices
Fast blades such as daggers, katanas and short swords generally scale with Agility. They reward positioning, short attack windows and repeated attacks rather than trading blows. Their lower individual hit values can be offset by faster chains, easier disengagement and more opportunities to apply effects.

Musashi’s Black Blade is a named katana example. A current 2026 guide lists 74 damage and 13.5% armor penetration. Its fast katana moveset makes it a natural fit for an Agility build, especially against targets where mobility and attack frequency matter more than maximum penetration. Against very heavy armor, you may prefer a weapon with stronger penetration or use Sunder from another source.

Best craftable high-damage option
Dragonbone weapons are a dependable high-base-damage family for players who want a repeatable path instead of a random Legendary drop. Their recipes are learned from a stele at the bottom of The Sinkhole. Crafting also requires Dragonbone and Dragonhorn, which are obtained from dragons. Because the family is craftable, it can serve as a stable main weapon while you farm named drops, replace a broken weapon or outfit additional followers.
Best choice against armor versus unarmored enemies

How to get powerful weapons
Craft an Epic weapon for a predictable upgrade
- Choose the attribute and moveset you intend to use, rather than crafting the highest listed damage weapon automatically.
- Advance your crafting progression until the recipe family you want is available. Epic equipment is craftable end-game gear; examples include Khari Steel, Hardened Steel, Venomsteel and Star Metal.
- Gather the required materials and craft a replacement before taking the weapon into a long dungeon or boss run.
- Test the weapon’s stamina cost and combo reach against ordinary enemies. If you cannot complete its useful chain without exhausting stamina, a theoretically stronger weapon may reduce your real damage per minute.
Learn and craft Dragonbone weapons
- Travel to The Sinkhole and reach the stele at its bottom.
- Interact with the stele to learn the Dragonbone weapon recipes.
- Hunt dragons for Dragonbone and Dragonhorn.
- Craft the weapon and keep sufficient materials for repairs or replacement as your progression continues.
This route is valuable because it turns dragon kills into a repeatable supply of high-base-damage weapons. It does not make Dragonbone universally stronger than every named Legendary: a Legendary may offer superior penetration, a better effect or a moveset that matches your build more closely.
Farm bosses and Legendary chests
Named Legendary weapons are obtained through boss, chest and dungeon access rather than ordinary crafting. Current boss routes covered by the 2026 guide include Corrupted Crocodiles, Giant Spider, Cave Spider, Sleeping Boss and Dragon encounters. Boss inventories and Legendary chests can contain weapons or other gear. Some bosses also provide Skeleton Keys when harvested, giving you access to additional locked chests.

- Carry a weapon whose penetration or Sunder is appropriate to the boss’s armor.
- Bring a repair strategy and a replacement weapon. The July 2026 repair change lets you restore Legendary equipment, but a failed run can still leave you without a usable weapon if you rely on one item.
- Harvest eligible bosses for Skeleton Keys after the fight, then open the corresponding chests.
- Record which boss, chest or dungeon produced each named item in your own world. The available guides do not establish a complete authoritative drop-rate table, so do not treat an anecdotal number of runs as a guaranteed probability.
Farm the Skittering Cavern and Cave Spider route
The Cave Spider route in Skittering Cavern is a useful repeat-farm path for named rewards. The current guide identifies The Bane of Khosatral Khel, The Nemedian helm, Akbitanan Throwing Knife and Warspear of the Black Circle among the rewards or repeat-farm possibilities associated with this route. The route is worth considering when you want several named items from the same activity rather than a single weapon target.
- Enter Skittering Cavern with enough healing, stamina recovery and carrying capacity for a full clear.
- Use a weapon suited to the spiders’ defenses and keep a fast backup for moments when the main weapon’s recovery is unsafe.
- Clear the route, defeat the Cave Spider and check all relevant reward containers.
- Repeat the run only if the time, risk and repair cost make the expected attempt worthwhile for your character.
Weapon mechanics that change your damage
Armor penetration
Armor penetration is a multiplier on the value of every successful hit against an armored target. A weapon with less listed damage can deal more practical damage than a high-damage weapon when its penetration is substantially higher. This is why Hanuman’s Gada’s listed 45% penetration is important independently of its 96 damage figure, and why Musashi’s Black Blade’s 13.5% penetration should be judged in the context of its fast katana attacks rather than compared as a simple subtraction.
Sunder
Sunder weakens a target’s armor and improves the value of later attacks. A weapon that applies Sunder can therefore increase the party’s total damage, not just its own first-hit number. Use it early in a fight against armored enemies, then continue with your highest reliable damage chain. Do not assume the effect makes every Sunder weapon best for every encounter; the attack that applies it still has to connect, and its stamina cost and recovery determine whether you can safely repeat the sequence.
Bleed
Bleed is more attractive against unarmored or lightly armored enemies, where your direct hits already land efficiently. It is less decisive when armor heavily reduces the initial application attacks. If a target frequently cleanses effects, retreats or dies before the damage-over-time duration matters, prioritize immediate damage instead.

Funcom increased weapon stamina costs while making heavy attacks approximately 5% to 20% stronger depending on weapon type. Heavy attacks can also apply bleed, Sunder or cripple. The practical result is a trade-off: a heavy attack is more rewarding when it connects, but missing one can leave you unable to dodge or block. Learn the recovery animation before using a heavy chain against a boss that can punish a whiff.

A practical decision framework
Use this sequence when choosing between weapons in your inventory:
- Identify your primary attribute. Start with Strength for heavy maces, great axes and most swords; start with Agility for daggers, katanas and short swords.
- Identify the target’s defense. If the enemy is heavily armored, filter for penetration and Sunder. If it is unarmored, filter for raw damage and bleed.
- Check the moveset. Compare range, attack speed, recovery and whether the combo leaves enough stamina for an emergency dodge.
- Check access and replacement cost. Use an Epic or Dragonbone weapon when you need a reliable craftable supply; reserve a named Legendary for content where its extra power justifies the farming risk.
- Check durability and repair. Since July 21, 2026, Legendary weapons can be repaired, but you still need the materials and a safe opportunity to do so.
- Test in the actual encounter. A training fight against an ordinary enemy cannot reveal how well a weapon handles a boss’s armor, reach or attack timing.

Common mistakes and how to correct them
Calling one weapon universally best
There is no defensible universal winner. A Strength player, an Agility player, a solo explorer and a boss group can all need different weapons. Correct the mistake by stating the build, target armor and access level attached to your recommendation.

Comparing only the damage number
Damage without penetration, status effects or moveset context is incomplete. Compare a weapon’s full attack pattern and the defense of the enemy you actually fight.
Using a slow heavy weapon without stamina discipline
Heavy attacks are stronger after Funcom’s balance changes, but they also consume stamina and can expose you during recovery. Keep enough stamina for a dodge, use heavy attacks during clear openings and switch to a safer chain when the enemy is active.
Assuming every named item has a known drop percentage
No complete authoritative per-category drop-rate table is established here. Boss inventories and Legendary chests can provide weapons, but the exact probability for a particular named item may vary by encounter and patch. Treat community run counts as observations, not guarantees.

Following an obsolete repair rule
If a guide says Legendary equipment is permanently disposable, check its date. The July 21, 2026 Legacy of the Giant-Kings update brought Legendary repair back to the game.

Boss routes can fail because of a missed dodge, a stamina shortage or an unfavorable drop. Carry a craftable backup, especially when your main weapon is a rare Legendary that you cannot immediately replace.
Quick checklist before a boss or dungeon run
- Does the weapon scale with the attribute your build actually uses?
- Is the target armored enough that penetration or Sunder should outrank raw damage?
- Can you complete the useful combo and still dodge?
- Do you have a replacement weapon and the means to repair or craft it?
- Are you farming a named item from a documented boss, chest or dungeon route?
- Have you accounted for patch-sensitive stats and the possibility that a guide’s values are outdated?
Final recommendations
For a Strength build fighting armor, Hanuman’s Gada is one of the strongest documented examples because the current 2026 guide lists 96 damage, 45% penetration and Sunder. For an Agility build that values speed, Musashi’s Black Blade offers a fast katana moveset, with the same guide listing 74 damage and 13.5% penetration. For two-handed sword users, Mastodon Killer is listed at 83 damage and 22% penetration. For dependable access rather than a specific drop, Dragonbone weapons provide a craftable high-base-damage route after learning their recipes at The Sinkhole and collecting materials from dragons.
Use those examples as starting points, not as a permanent tier list. Patches can alter numbers, effects and drop availability. The best weapon is the one whose scaling, penetration, status effects, stamina profile and acquisition route match the fight you are about to enter.
