Where did the “Future of PlayStation” claim come from?
Video Games Chronicle reported on September 20, 2024, that Colin Moriarty had relayed comments from someone who had worked on Concord. In the post reproduced by VGC, Moriarty wrote: “It was internally referred to as "The Future of PlayStation" with Star Wars-like potential, and a dev culture of "toxic positivity" halted any negative feedback.” VGC’s report attributes that account to Moriarty; it is not a public statement from Sony, nor does the reporting independently establish that Sony officially used the phrase.
Did Concord really cost $400 million?
The same Moriarty post, as reproduced by VGC, says, “Making it cost $400m.” The figure is an allegation attributed to an unnamed person who had worked on the game, not a budget disclosed in audited financial statements. It should be described as a reported claim, not a confirmed development cost.
The number was subsequently challenged. GamesRadar+ reported that a Kotaku reporter could not confirm the $400 million figure and described a separate fan analysis estimating $100 million to $150 million. That lower figure is also an estimate, not a verified replacement for the $400 million claim. GamesRadar+’s account notes that the total is difficult to pin down without knowing what was counted.

Why the estimates may not be comparable
A total could be affected by whether it includes development before Sony acquired Firewalk, spending after the acquisition, marketing, outsourced work, or money allocated to other studios and projects. The cited reporting does not settle those accounting boundaries. The two figures therefore should not be treated as interchangeable totals or as independently established budgets.
What happened to Concord after launch?
VGC identifies August 23, 2024, as Concord’s release date on PS5 and PC, and reports that the game was taken offline after about two weeks. On September 3, Firewalk game director Ryan Ellis announced that sales would stop immediately and the game would go offline starting September 6, 2024.

In the PlayStation Blog announcement, Ellis said the team had decided to take the game offline and explore options to better reach players. Sony said purchasers on PS5 and PC would receive refunds; players who received a refund would no longer have access to the game. The notice also addressed refunds for physical retail copies.

Sony’s refund notice confirms that physical copies existed, but it does not establish whether copies are currently available, what they cost, or whether they have collectible value. More importantly for someone hoping to play, the notice says refunded players lose access. The cited information does not support treating a physical copy as a way to restore gameplay access after the shutdown.
