Rear buttons can make repeated attacks easier to reach, but they do not make enemies take more damage. If enemies in CONTROL Resonant feel spongy, start with the game’s Assist Mode: it lets you adjust outgoing damage and falter directly, without buying a new controller. A controller with remappable back buttons is a separate convenience for players who want to move an attack input to a different spot.
What back buttons can—and cannot—change
GamesRadar+’s October 1, 2026 article describes repeated attack presses becoming tiring during longer play sessions and suggests mapping an attack to a spare rear or shoulder button. That is a personal comfort recommendation, not a demonstrated fix for enemy durability or combat difficulty. A back button duplicates or relocates an input; by itself, it does not change damage values.
Nor does the available evidence establish that rear controls prevent carpal tunnel syndrome or other repetitive-strain injuries. Consider them an optional way to reach a frequent input, not a medical solution.
Try the game’s combat adjustments first
CONTROL Resonant does not force players to choose one overall difficulty level. Remedy’s Assist Mode allows individual combat mechanics to be adjusted during gameplay. Its options include incoming and outgoing damage, outgoing falter, enemy aggression, enemy projectile speed, the Perfect Dodge Window, ability recovery and melee positioning. It also offers Immortality, One-Hit Kills and One-Hit Falters.

If the specific problem is how long enemies take to defeat, try raising outgoing damage. If you want to reach executions more readily, adjust outgoing falter. These settings address combat rules directly; a controller remap does not. Remedy Lead Gameplay Designer Sergey Mohov described the intent as letting players change the rules when friction becomes too much, rather than stopping play. Account for the launch hotfix
Complaints about enemies feeling too durable were also acknowledged by Remedy around launch. In its September 24, 2026 launch announcement, Remedy said feedback included high enemy health pools, too many hits needed to falter enemies for executions, and Dylan feeling underpowered early in combat. Launch hotfix 1.3.3 reduced base health and falter level for most enemies and increased maximum Aberrant and Ability Strength. Those are launch-hotfix changes, not a guarantee about every later version; check the current patch notes if you are playing after subsequent updates. Use the combat loop as well as settings
Remedy’s combat overview describes a loop in which melee hits restore combat ability resources, abilities stun enemies for executions, and executions temporarily increase melee damage. Reading enemy attacks, managing staggers and status effects, and timing dodges are also part of the intended close-range combat. This context may help explain why simply repeating attacks is not always the fastest approach, though it is not a promise that the loop will resolve every player’s concern about enemy durability. If you prefer the standard combat balance but want a frequently used attack input somewhere easier to reach, a remappable rear button or paddle may suit you. The GamesRadar+ article mentions the GameSir Tarantula 8K, Nacon Revolution X Unlimited and FlyDigi Apex 5; those examples are not proof that every model works with every platform or game setup.

- Confirm how remapping is done: through controller software, a console setting or another supported method. The setup and available controls vary.
- Distinguish a simple duplicate input from a macro that triggers a sequence. Macro features, platform support and applicable game rules vary; do not assume a particular sequence can be configured or used in every setup.
- Choose based on button placement and reach as well as the number of rear controls. A convenient control for one player may not feel convenient to another.
PlayStation lists CONTROL Resonant for PS5 and describes DualSense vibration and trigger effects, but that does not establish compatibility for any of the named third-party controllers or their rear controls. Check the exact hardware and platform combination. PlayStation’s game page identifies the PS5 edition and its listed controller features.
