Cooler Master’s Shark X is a real, roughly one-meter-tall gaming PC shaped like a shark. It launched in September 2024 at approximately $6,999.99, but later regional listings show different hardware, so the original price and specifications should not be treated as universally current.

The Shark X is best understood as a functional art object and collector’s centerpiece that happens to be a gaming computer—not as a performance-per-dollar system.

What is the Cooler Master Shark X?

The Shark X is a complete prebuilt mini-ITX gaming PC integrated into a giant shark-shaped chassis. Its components occupy the body and tail, while the head, fin, illuminated base and ARGB lighting create the visual centerpiece. Cooler Master lists dimensions of approximately 89.4 × 79 × 90.8 cm, making it close to one meter tall. The chassis uses plastic and steel.

The design began as “Leviathan,” a 2019 Case Mod World Series project by Thai modder Inony. Cooler Master later developed the concept for production and showed it at CES 2023 and CES 2024 before officially announcing the retail system on September 3, 2024. The production model should not be assumed to be identical to the original mod or early CES hardware. Cooler Master’s announcement details the design’s history.

The September 2024 launch configuration

The approximately $6,999.99 launch system was reported with the following specification:

Component Launch specification
CPU Intel Core i7-14700F
Motherboard B760I DDR5 Wi-Fi mini-ITX
GPU GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super, 16GB
Memory 64GB DDR5-6000, 2 × 32GB
Storage 2TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD
Operating system Windows 11 Home
Power supply Cooler Master V850 SFX Gold, 850W
CPU cooling Customized Cooler Master MasterLiquid 120 Atmos
Expansion 400mm PCIe 4.0 x16 riser cable

The published GPU clearance is approximately 304 × 137 × 61 mm. That limit matters more than the headline “upgradeable” claim when considering future graphics cards. The launch configuration and price were reported by Tom’s Hardware.

Important: regional listings now show different hardware

Cooler Master’s regional pages do not consistently display the same Shark X configuration. A later listing identifies an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F, Gigabyte B860I AORUS motherboard, GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, 32GB DDR5-6000, 2TB Kingston M.2 storage and Windows 11. It also gives an estimated shipping time of within two weeks in that region.

  • Dell Services: 1 Year Onsite Service provides support when and where you need it. Dell will come to your home, office, or location of choice, if an issue covered by Limited Hardware Warranty cannot be resolved remotely.

Another official regional listing still shows the original Core i7-14700F, B760I, RTX 4070 Ti Super, 64GB and 2TB configuration, along with older pre-order language. In other words, the product page, country and checkout determine what a buyer is actually being offered. Check the official Shark X page and the store serving your country before relying on any review or article published in 2024.

Why does it cost about $7,000?

The price is not primarily a reflection of the raw value of the processor, graphics card and storage. A conventional gaming PC with broadly comparable launch hardware would cost substantially less, although an exact comparison changes with component prices, GPU generations and prebuilt pricing.

The premium is more plausibly explained by:

  • Low-volume manufacturing rather than mass-produced tower production.
  • A complex custom chassis and internal mounting system.
  • Specialized engineering, tooling, assembly and packaging.
  • Oversized shipping and handling requirements.
  • Development costs spread across a small number of units.
  • The value of a limited, highly visible design for collectors, studios and showrooms.

Cooler Master presents the Shark X as a fusion of technology and art, but it has not published a bill of materials or margin breakdown. Calling it poor value is therefore a performance-per-dollar judgment, not a claim about Cooler Master’s manufacturing costs.

Upgradeability has strict limits

Cooler Master describes the Shark X’s mini-ITX framework as upgradeable and lists support for Intel and AMD mini-ITX motherboards. In principle, the memory, storage, CPU, motherboard, graphics card, power supply and cooler can be replaced when compatible.

In practice, upgrades are constrained by the shark’s internal architecture:

  • The motherboard must remain mini-ITX-compatible.
  • The graphics card must fit within roughly 304 × 137 × 61 mm.
  • The 120mm radiator and pump arrangement limit cooling choices.
  • The riser cable and cable-routing layout complicate replacements.
  • Power requirements may exceed what the 850W SFX supply or its cabling can support.
  • Replacement parts may be harder to source and install than parts in a standard tower.

“Upgradeable” should mean upgradeable within the published clearances and power limits—not compatible with every future desktop component.

Living with a one-meter shark

Space is a larger concern than many buyers will expect. The Shark X needs a large, stable installation area and may not fit beneath a desk, on a normal shelf or beside a monitor stand. Its height and irregular shape can also make doors, stairways and narrow passages difficult.

Cooler Master documentation lists gross shipping weight at approximately 49 kg (108 lb), with carton dimensions around 930 × 1,010 × 1,030 mm. The documentation notes that specifications can change, so verify the retailer’s current shipping information.

Before ordering, confirm whether delivery is curbside or room-of-choice, whether a signature is required, how transit damage must be documented and whether the original oversized packaging is required for a return. Cleaning, servicing and replacing custom exterior parts may also be more difficult than with a conventional case.

  • Power supply: 650W (80plus bronze) certified for energy efficiency and stable performance

The available documentation confirms a customized 120mm AIO and ARGB lighting that runs from the tail toward the head. The rear fin also serves as a Wi-Fi antenna. There is no supplied independent thermal, acoustic or sustained-performance testing, so claims that the Shark X is especially quiet, cool or reliable should be treated cautiously.

Do not confuse the PC with the case-only version

The original $6,999.99 product is a complete prebuilt computer. Cooler Master also offered or announced a case-only Shark X variant in Japan, reported at approximately 658,000 yen and associated with Yodobashi Akiba. That Japanese case listing is not evidence of a broadly available North American shell, and it should not be conflated with the complete system.

Availability, warranty and ordering checklist

Cooler Master announced North American availability in 2024, while a Japanese launch and Yodobashi Akiba display followed on November 1, 2024. Regional availability, stock, pricing, shipping terms and warranty coverage can differ.

  1. Use the regional store for your country rather than assuming the North American announcement applies everywhere.
  2. Confirm the exact CPU, GPU, memory, storage and motherboard shown at checkout.
  3. Distinguish a live product page from an item that can actually be added to the cart.
  4. Check the estimated ship date, taxes, delivery charges and import duties.
  5. Save a screenshot of the configuration and model number before payment.
  6. Review return conditions, oversized-shipping requirements and damage-reporting deadlines.
  7. Confirm the local warranty. Cooler Master’s warranty table lists two years in the EU and one year outside the EU for Shark X, but seller terms and regional documentation should be checked.

A product page remaining online does not guarantee inventory or delivery to your address.

Who should buy the Shark X?

Buyer Verdict
Performance-focused gamer Poor value; spend the budget on faster conventional hardware.
Frequent upgrader Risky because of GPU clearance, mini-ITX constraints and custom servicing.
Collector or design enthusiast Potentially defensible if the shark itself is the main purchase.
Studio, showroom or esports space Worth considering when visual impact has practical value.
Small-room or apartment setup Usually a poor fit because of its footprint, height and weight.
Custom PC builder Interesting but demanding; verify every clearance and replacement path.

Verdict

The Cooler Master Shark X is not a $7,000 bargain gaming PC. Its launch hardware was capable, but the price is difficult to justify through frame rates alone. The reason to buy it is the enormous shark-shaped design, rarity and spectacle.

That decision becomes harder—and more important to verify—because official regional listings now show different hardware and availability language. Treat the 2024 Core i7/RTX 4070 Ti Super specification as the launch configuration, not a guaranteed current one. If you want a conversation piece and have the space, budget and tolerance for niche hardware, the Shark X may make sense. Everyone else will get better performance, easier upgrades and simpler ownership from a conventional PC.
