Mojang announced copper golems, copper chests, and copper equipment for testing in Minecraft Bedrock beta and preview on July 1, 2025. The golem moves items from copper chests into regular or trapped chests, while copper tools and armor offer an intermediate option between stone or leather and iron. These were experimental features, so their mechanics and availability should be read in the context of the 2025 test releases—not as confirmation of what is available in the current stable game.
What Mojang announced—and who could test it
The July 2025 announcement introduced the copper golem as an inventory-sorting companion and copper as a new equipment tier. Mojang said the features were still in development and could change in response to community feedback. The announcement described Preview availability for Bedrock Realms on Xbox, Windows 10/11, and iOS, and Betas on Android through Google Play. Those are the platform details published at the time, not a verified list of current beta enrollment options. Mojang’s announcement also notes that Bedrock Edition is sold separately.
How the copper golem sorts items
The mechanic documented in the experimental section of the Bedrock 1.21.100 changelog uses two kinds of containers: copper chests as inputs and regular chests or trapped chests as destinations.
- An empty-handed copper golem searches nearby copper chests and picks up items.
- While carrying an item, it searches nearby regular or trapped chests and tries to place the item in a chest that is empty or already contains the same item type.
- If it cannot find a matching destination, it idles for seven seconds before trying again.

- It can visit up to 10 chests or copper chests in sequence.
- Its search range is 32 blocks horizontally and 8 blocks vertically from its position.
A copper chest is crafted from a chest and copper ingots. It can be waxed or oxidized. For a practical sorting layout, keep the input copper chests and candidate destination chests within the golem’s documented range, and make sure destinations are empty or contain the same item type as the item being delivered. The 10-container sequence limit means a large storage room may require more than one golem or a more compact arrangement; that is a layout implication of the published limit, not a separate Mojang requirement.
Later test-version behavior
Subsequent 2025 beta and preview notes document refinements to sorting like-named items and fixes to golem pathfinding. A July 2025 Preview update also described fully oxidized golems becoming statues that can be interacted with or connected to a redstone comparator. These are version-specific testing notes, so they should not be assumed to describe every build or a current stable release. How copper equipment compares with stone, leather, and iron
The experimental 1.21.100 changelog lists copper tools—axe, hoe, pickaxe, shovel, and sword—and four armor pieces: helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots. Copper tools and weapons are crafted and repaired with copper ingots. They do not oxidize; smelting copper equipment yields copper nuggets.

Mojang’s author Cristina Anderca summarized the pickaxe trade-off this way: “a copper pickaxe will help you mine a bit faster and for a bit longer than a stone pickaxe but won’t allow you to mine any additional materials – you’ll still need to upgrade to iron for that.” The published comparisons are relative; the cited materials do not provide numeric durability or speed values.

What to consider before trying experimental features
The 1.21.100 changelog warns that experimental features are in development and may cause a world to crash, break, or become incompatible with future updates. Mojang’s practical warning supports a simple precaution: try them in a separate world rather than one you rely on for ongoing play. That is reader guidance based on the warning, not a stated Mojang requirement.
The 1.21.100 changelog was published August 5, 2025. Mojang later published Bedrock 1.21.120 notes on October 28, 2025, but the cited release notes do not establish whether these features are available in the current 2026 stable version or how beta enrollment works now.
