If Coral Island keeps crashing or won’t launch on Windows, start with the checks that match the symptom: compare your PC with the game’s requirements, update the graphics driver if the crash log mentions FD3D11, and verify the game files if the problem began after an update. Stairway Games’ official guidance does not establish eight fixes that work for every PC, so the steps below are conditional—not guarantees.

1. Check whether your PC meets Coral Island’s requirements

Compare your Windows version, processor, memory, graphics card and free storage with the current requirements on Coral Island’s Steam listing. The listed minimums are Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel i3 processor, 6 GB RAM, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 with 2 GB, DirectX 10 and 8 GB available storage. The recommended specifications are Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel i7 or Ryzen 1700+, 16 GB RAM, an Nvidia GeForce GTX960+ graphics card, DirectX 10 and 8 GB storage. Check the live listing because store requirements can change.

Meeting the minimums does not identify the cause of a particular crash; it is a first check to see whether your system is below the game’s published baseline.

2. Look for FD3D11 in the crash error or log

If the crash message or log includes FD3D11, Stairway Games’ crash and launch guidance recommends checking that your PC meets the game requirements and that your graphics-card driver is up to date. The developer associates this code with a graphics-driver issue; that does not mean every crash is caused by a driver.

3. Confirm the game is using a dedicated graphics card

Stairway Games says Coral Island does not support integrated graphics and requires a dedicated graphics card. Check which GPU is in your PC and which one the game is using, then compare it with the Steam listing. Do not assume you need to buy hardware: a purchase is relevant only if your system lacks a suitable dedicated card, and compatibility depends on the rest of your PC.

4. Update the graphics-card driver for an FD3D11 crash

For an FD3D11 error, check the driver for the dedicated GPU in your system and install a current version from the graphics-card manufacturer. The developer specifically recommends ensuring the graphics driver is current. If your PC has both integrated and dedicated graphics, make sure the game is using the dedicated GPU; the developer’s guidance does not support playing on integrated graphics.

5. Verify the game files if it stopped launching after an update

If Coral Island would not open after an update, Stairway Games recommends Steam’s file check:

  1. Open Steam and select Library.
  2. Right-click Coral Island and choose Properties.
  3. Open Installed Files.
  4. Select Verify integrity of game files and let Steam complete the check.

This is the developer’s suggested step for a post-update launch problem; it is not a general guarantee against crashes during play.

6. Reinstall only if verification does not resolve a launch issue

For a launch problem that persists, the developer’s FAQ suggests completely uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Stairway Games says this will not affect the save file stored on the PC. That assurance is limited to the situation described in its post; it does not address every storefront or save configuration. If a save is important, preserve a backup before changing game files.

7. Collect the crash log and details about the failure

Before reporting a persistent crash, find the log in the folder Stairway Games identifies:

C:Users<your PC name>AppDataLocalProjectCoralSavedCrashes

The folder can differ by Windows account name. The developer says the crash log is an XML file. Also record the information it requests:

  • What happened immediately before the crash, including the steps that reproduce it, if known.
  • Your PC specifications.
  • The platform and game version.
  • Your input method: keyboard and mouse, controller, or Steam Deck used as a controller.
  • The crash log, if the game crashed.

8. Send a persistent issue to Stairway Games

Stairway Games directs players to its Steam Bugs and Crashes discussion area or Discord, and lists [email protected] as an email contact in its guidance. Check the linked official post for current reporting details. Including the log and context above gives the team information to investigate, but does not guarantee an individual diagnosis.

Choose the next step by symptom

  • FD3D11 appears: check requirements and update the dedicated GPU driver.
  • The game stopped opening after an update: verify Steam files; consider reinstalling only if that fails.
  • The PC uses integrated graphics: the developer says that setup is unsupported; check the actual GPU before considering hardware changes.
  • The crash persists or has no clear error: collect the XML log and PC/game details, then report the issue.
