Waypoints are free to activate and become available to your party. Portals are a late-game craft made at the Octarine Workbench; after you place one, it must charge before it can send you elsewhere. To travel, stand beside a ready Portal, press E, and select an activated destination.

How fast travel works in Core Keeper
Fast travel is a connected network rather than a separate menu. Ancient Waypoints and crafted Portals can both serve as destinations once they have been activated or placed and prepared. A player can use a node to move between distant biomes, base areas and boss approaches without walking the entire route again.
| System | Where it comes from | Cost to activate or build | Who can use it | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ancient Waypoint | Pre-placed in the world, including locations near some boss arenas | Free to activate | Your party after activation | You find them; you do not choose their original locations |
| Portal | Crafted at the Octarine Workbench | Late-game materials; the listed bill varies by version | Any party member who can access the shared network | Each newly placed Portal needs time to charge |
The practical distinction is simple: Waypoints are exploration discoveries, while Portals let you create a route where you need one. In a new world, activate every Waypoint you encounter. Later, use Portals to connect your main base, resource regions and frequently revisited arenas.

Ancient Waypoints: the free option
Finding and activating a Waypoint
Ancient Waypoints are already present in the generated world. Guides commonly describe examples near boss arenas, making them useful checkpoints before a difficult fight. When you reach one, activate it in the world. Activation does not require the Portal materials listed later in this guide.
Once activated, the Waypoint is part of the travel network. The co-op player who activates it does not keep it as a private unlock: the available references state that party members can use activated Waypoints as well.

What is and is not confirmed about moving one
Community reports claim that some Waypoints can be dug up and reinstalled elsewhere if the character has sufficient mining power. Those reports were not confirmed against an official source, so treat relocation as experimental rather than a dependable building plan. The same caution applies to a community claim that the Waypoint in front of The Core cannot be destroyed. Do not design a route around either behavior until your own game version demonstrates it.
Portal crafting: requirements and the recipe conflict
Where to craft
Portals are late-game items made at the Octarine Workbench. You must reach the stage of progression at which that workstation and Octarine materials are available. After crafting, place the Portal at the location you want to connect; multiple Portals can be distributed around the map.

Two published material lists
Community references do not agree on the current bill. The Core Keeper fandom wiki and CoreKeeperDB list the following quantities, while the atma.gg Core Keeper wiki lists a cheaper set:
| Material | Fandom wiki and CoreKeeperDB list | atma.gg list |
|---|---|---|
| Copper Bar | 100 | 50 |
| Iron Bar | 100 | 50 |
| Octarine Bar | 100 | 50 |
| Coral Wood Plank | 200 | 50 |
| Mechanical Part | 20 | 15 |
| Ancient Gemstone | 30 | 20 |
These are incompatible recipes, not alternate ways to combine the same ingredients. A Steam announcement for version 1.3 reportedly reduced Portal crafting costs but did not provide the numbers in the material reviewed, which may explain the 50-based list. Because the exact 1.3-era bill was not confirmed by an official patch note, open the Octarine Workbench in your own version before committing resources. If the displayed recipe differs from both tables, the in-game value takes precedence.

How to prepare without wasting materials
- Reach the Octarine Workbench and inspect the Portal entry before farming a large stockpile.
- Record the quantities your world actually displays; do not assume an older guide’s 100/100/100/200/20/30 bill still applies.
- Gather enough of every listed bar, plank and component for the number of Portals you intend to place. The cheaper list is not a guarantee that every edition uses those quantities.
- Craft only after checking that you have selected the Portal item rather than another Octarine Workbench recipe.
How long does a Core Keeper Portal take to charge?
The most consistent current figure in community guides is 10 minutes. A ScalaCube guide reports 20 minutes, and the history shown for the fandom wiki says a patch identified as 1.0.0.1 reduced the timer from 20 to 10 minutes. TechRaptor and gamever references also report 10 minutes.
| Reported timer | Where it appears | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| 10 minutes | Fandom wiki, TechRaptor and gamever references | Best-supported figure for versions after the cited 1.0.0.1 change |
| 20 minutes | ScalaCube guide | Likely an older value or a guide covering a different build |
The timer is version-dependent, and the reviewed material did not establish an official 1.3 patch-note value. Watch the Portal’s in-game state after placement rather than relying on a guide’s date. Plan a temporary walking route when you install a Portal: placing it does not make it immediately usable if the charge cycle has not finished.

How to use Portals
Traveling from a charged Portal
- Stand next to the Portal you want to leave from. Position close enough for its interaction prompt to appear.
- Press E to open the Portal interface.
- Choose an available destination from the network.
- Confirm the destination and wait for the transition to complete.
The documented control path is the same in the version 1.0 guide: proximity, E, then destination selection. A Portal is useful only after it has completed its own charge cycle.
Does the destination need to be charged?
One secondary guide states that only the Portal you are travelling from must be charged. It also warns that an unready destination can leave a player stranded there. Because that behavior is not confirmed by an official technical reference, treat it as a safety rule: keep both ends of an important route ready before departing, and avoid testing an uncharged destination when carrying valuable equipment.

Place one Portal at each end of the route you want to shorten—for example, near your main storage area and near a distant biome. Allow each newly placed Portal to finish charging. Then test the route in both directions with inexpensive gear. This confirms that both nodes appear in the destination list and that the arrival point is safe before the route becomes part of a boss or resource run.
Co-op: how the shared network works
Waypoints and Portals are shared
Activated Waypoints are shared with the party, and the available references describe Waypoints and Portals as one network. A party member can select an activated node as a destination without personally discovering every Waypoint or crafting every Portal. This makes one player’s exploration useful to the entire group.

For a coordinated session, decide who will activate newly found Waypoints and who will place the next Portal. Everyone can then use the same travel map instead of maintaining separate routes.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Character progress versus world progress
Co-op has an important save distinction:
- Character data: each player’s skills and gear travel with that character.
- World data: boss kills, structures and other world progress are saved to the host’s world file.
If a guest activates a Waypoint or helps build a Portal, the route belongs to the host’s world. Rejoining that same world is necessary to use the world network and preserve its changes. A character can retain equipment and skills when playing elsewhere, but that does not transfer the host’s defeated bosses or built structures into another player’s world.
Host checklist before a group expedition
- Confirm that the correct host world is loaded.
- Activate the nearest Ancient Waypoint before splitting up to explore.
- Tell the group which Portal is the departure node and which destinations are safe.
- Allow new Portals to charge before sending players into a distant area.
- Return to the host world after major construction or boss progress so the world save contains the changes.
Where Portals make the biggest difference
Main base to a remote biome
A Portal beside your central storage or crafting area removes repeated hauling trips. Put the receiving Portal in a location that is easy to recognize and not hidden behind temporary construction. Since destination selection is shared, the entire party can use the same supply route.
Boss-arena preparation
Ancient Waypoints may already exist near some boss arenas. Activate those first. If a fight requires repeated attempts, a crafted Portal can provide an additional base-to-arena link once it has charged. Keep healing, food and replacement equipment at the base end so a defeat does not force a complete overland recovery trip.
Best Value
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Resource loops
For a long mining or harvesting session, place a Portal at the boundary of the resource region and return to the base through the network when your inventory is full. Test both directions before beginning a high-value run, and remember that an uncharged or unavailable destination is a poor emergency exit.
Troubleshooting Portal travel
| Symptom | Checks to make | What the evidence supports |
|---|---|---|
| No interaction prompt | Stand directly beside the Portal and press E. Confirm that you are interacting with the Portal object, not adjacent furniture or a decorative structure. | The documented use requires proximity and the E key. |
| The Portal is present but cannot send you | Check whether its placement charge has finished. A newly placed Portal is not immediately ready. | Community guides consistently describe a post-placement charge cycle. |
| The timer differs from a guide | Use the timer shown by your game version. Compare the 10-minute and 20-minute reports only as historical references. | The fandom history records a 1.0.0.1 reduction from 20 to 10 minutes; current 1.3 confirmation was not established. |
| A destination is missing | Verify that the node was activated or placed in this host world and that party members are connected to the same world. | World progress is stored in the host’s file, while the network is shared within that world. |
| You arrive somewhere without a usable return | Before departure, make sure the return Portal is ready and test both directions with low-risk equipment. | A secondary guide warns that an unready destination can strand a traveler; this behavior is not confirmed by an official source. |
Version notes and what to verify in your game
Most Portal advice online was written for a particular build. The reviewed references agree on the two-system design, party sharing and the E-key interaction, but they disagree on the charge timer and material bill. The strongest timer evidence points to 10 minutes after patch 1.0.0.1, while a 20-minute figure remains in at least one guide. Recipe references range from the 100/100/100/200/20/30 list to the cheaper 50/50/50/50/15/20 list, and a version 1.3 announcement reportedly reduced costs without publishing the replacement numbers in the text reviewed.
Before a major co-op session, check three live values in your own world: the Portal recipe at the Octarine Workbench, the charge indicator on a newly placed Portal and the destination list after both ends have been prepared. That short check prevents an old guide from dictating your material budget or expedition timing.
Recommended fast-travel routine
- Activate every Ancient Waypoint encountered during exploration.
- Let the host identify which Waypoints are available to the party.
- Reserve Portal materials until the Octarine Workbench shows the current recipe.
- Place Portals at high-traffic locations rather than scattering them without a route plan.
- Wait for each charge cycle and test the connection in both directions.
- Keep the host world as the source of truth for boss, building and network progress.
Used this way, Waypoints provide free coverage of the world and Portals fill the gaps between the places your group visits most often.
