Use n8n as the orchestration layer for an AI-assisted content pipeline: a trigger reads a brief, an AI model drafts the article and metadata, WordPress receives a saved draft, an image is generated and attached, and the result is written back to a tracking sheet for human review. Keep publication separate from generation so an editor can check accuracy, links, tone, and SEO before anything goes live.

n8n describes itself as a fair-code licensed workflow automation tool that combines AI features with business-process automation. In practical terms, triggers start workflows, nodes move and transform data, AI nodes generate or analyze content, and application nodes write the result to systems such as Google Sheets and WordPress.

What an automatic n8n content workflow actually does
n8n does not replace an editor with one magic “write” button. It coordinates a sequence of separate operations and preserves the data passed between them. A typical article workflow looks like this:
- A manual trigger starts a test run, or a schedule trigger starts a recurring production run.
- A Google Sheets node finds the next eligible brief.
- A validation step checks that the row has a topic, audience, instructions, and a stable content ID.
- An AI model generates the article and then produces a title or other structured fields.
- Validation rules check for empty output, required sections, links, length, and prohibited claims.
- A human approval gate can stop the workflow until an editor accepts the draft.
- A WordPress node creates a post with
draftstatus. - An image model creates a featured image, which is uploaded to WordPress media and attached to the post.
- A separate AI step creates a meta title and meta description, and a WordPress update applies them.
- The workflow records the URL, title, metadata, status, timestamps, and any error or review state in the source sheet.
This separation is important. If image generation fails, you should be able to retry the image step without generating a second article. If an editor rejects a claim, the post should remain a draft while the source row records the review state.

Choose where n8n will run
n8n Cloud
n8n Cloud is the documented starting point for new users. The service handles the underlying deployment, while you configure workflows, credentials, permissions, and executions in the n8n interface. It is convenient when you do not want to own upgrades or server maintenance.
Self-hosted n8n
Self-hosting gives your team control over the runtime, network location, access controls, backups, and upgrade schedule. It also makes you responsible for keeping the instance available, securing it, updating it, and protecting the credential store. Decide who will handle those operational duties before choosing this route.

Prepare the accounts and data
Create a content queue
Use Google Sheets or another datastore as the source of truth. A sheet makes the queue visible to editors and gives every run a place to write its outcome. The documented example expects columns such as:
- ID POST: a stable identifier for the item.
- PROMPT: the brief, angle, audience, and constraints.
- TITLE: the generated or approved title.
- URL: the WordPress URL after the post is created.
- METATITLE: the proposed SEO title.
- METADESCRIPTION: the proposed description.
- STATUS: a state such as queued, processing, needs review, draft, complete, or error.
- timestamps and error or review notes: enough information to audit the run and resume it safely.
Define which status makes a row eligible. For example, the workflow can select only rows marked queued, then immediately change the chosen row to processing before calling a model.
Configure credentials
Set up each connection in n8n’s credential system rather than placing secrets in prompts or ordinary text fields. You will normally need:
- Google Sheets credentials and access to the spreadsheet.
- WordPress credentials, with a site reachable through its REST API.
- Credentials for the text and SEO model provider. The documented example uses DeepSeek through OpenRouter.
- Image-generation credentials if the workflow must create featured images. The example uses OpenAI for that step.
Test each credential independently. A successful sheet read does not prove that WordPress or the image provider is configured correctly.
Build the workflow step by step
1. Start with a manual trigger
Add a Manual Trigger while building. Run the workflow yourself and inspect the output after every node. This lets you see the exact field names returned by Google Sheets, the model, and WordPress before you connect the next operation.
Once the review gate and recovery logic work, replace or supplement the manual trigger with a Schedule Trigger for recurring production. A scheduled run should still select only eligible rows and should not assume that the previous run completed.

- COMPACT RESEALABLE PACKAGE: store your pack of Windex Gaming Wipes anywhere in your home for whenever a quick and easy wipedown is needed
2. Read the next eligible brief
Add a Google Sheets node and map the spreadsheet document ID and sheet name. Read the queue, filter for an eligible status, and select one row or a deliberately bounded batch. Pass the row’s ID, prompt, audience, keywords, and any required format into downstream nodes.
Validate required fields before spending model credits. Stop the run with a clear error when the topic or brief is empty, the ID is missing, or the row already has a WordPress URL. A stable ID is the key to preventing duplicate posts.
3. Mark the row as processing
Update the selected row before generation begins. Store the content ID, a processing timestamp, and the workflow execution identifier if your operation uses one. If another scheduled execution starts, it can skip rows already marked processing.
4. Generate the article
Pass a structured prompt to the chosen text model. Keep the brief separate from the system-level rules so the model receives both the assignment and the constraints. A useful payload identifies:
- the topic and intended reader;
- the required format and approximate scope;
- facts, sources, and links the writer may use;
- claims or subjects that must be avoided;
- the required output format, such as article HTML plus a machine-readable title field.
Ask the model to return predictable fields rather than a block of prose that later nodes must guess apart. For example, return an article body, title, excerpt, and a list of source notes as separate properties. Store the raw response for troubleshooting, but send only the intended article field to WordPress.

5. Generate a title and structured fields
The documented template uses a separate generation step for the title. You can use the same provider or a different one. A separate step makes it easier to impose title-length, audience, and search-intent rules without rewriting the article.
Generate SEO metadata separately as well. Treat the meta title, meta description, suggested keywords, and excerpt as editorial drafts. A model can produce syntactically valid metadata that is still misleading, repetitive, or unsuitable for the site.
6. Add automated editorial checks
Insert a validation node before WordPress. At minimum, check:
- the article field is present and not empty;
- required headings or sections exist;
- the output falls within the length range your publication requires;
- required links are present and well formed;
- forbidden claims, placeholders, or unsupported guarantees are absent;
- the title, description, and article refer to the same topic;
- the stable content ID has not already produced a WordPress post.
Route a failed check to an error or review branch rather than publishing it. Save the reason in the tracking row so an editor can correct the brief or adjust the prompt.

7. Require human approval
For factual, high-visibility, or legally sensitive content, pause after validation and request approval. n8n’s AI examples document human fallback and human-in-the-loop patterns; the exact implementation can vary, but the principle is the same: generation produces a candidate, and a person decides whether it is acceptable.
An approval record should identify the content ID, the reviewer, the decision, and the time of review. Rejection should return the item to an explicit revision state, not silently run the entire workflow again and risk duplicate posts.
8. Create a WordPress draft
Use the WordPress node to create the post with draft status. The node supports creating, retrieving, and updating posts and pages. Map the generated title and HTML body into the appropriate fields, and preserve the content ID in a field you can retrieve later.
Do not switch to automatic publication merely because the model passed a length check. Draft status keeps the generation and publication decisions separate. An editor can inspect formatting, links, images, claims, and metadata in WordPress before changing the status.
9. Generate and attach the featured image
If the brief requires a featured image, call the image-generation provider after the draft exists. The documented template uses OpenAI to create an image, uploads it through WordPress media, and sets it as the featured image.
Keep this as a separate branch or stage. If the image call fails, record the failure and retry that stage against the existing WordPress draft. Do not regenerate the article unless the article itself failed validation.
10. Apply SEO metadata
Run the metadata step after the article and title are available. Then update the WordPress record with the approved meta title and description using the fields supported by your WordPress setup. If your SEO integration exposes different fields, verify the mapping on a test post before using production content.
11. Record the outcome
Write the WordPress post ID or URL, final title, metadata, status, review decision, and timestamps back to the source sheet. On failure, write the failed stage and a useful error message. A row that says only “failed” forces an operator to inspect every execution; a row that says “image upload failed after draft ID 123 was created” supports a targeted retry.
Use a predictable status and retry design
Simple state management prevents most operational mistakes. A practical sequence is:

queued— ready for selection.processing— claimed by one execution.validation_failed— requires a brief or prompt correction.needs_review— waiting for an editor.draft— WordPress draft exists.complete— the required fields and media are recorded.error— a recoverable or unresolved failure needs attention.
Make retries idempotent. Before creating a post, look up the stable ID or stored WordPress ID. If it exists, update the existing draft instead of creating another post. Mark a row complete only after the WordPress response and required metadata have been stored.
Compare the main design choices
| Decision | Option one | Option two | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trigger | Manual run | Schedule or event trigger | Manual for building and debugging; scheduled or event-driven for recurring production. |
| Deployment | n8n Cloud | Self-hosted n8n | Cloud minimizes infrastructure work; self-hosting maximizes operational control. |
| Model layer | One provider | Separate providers | One provider simplifies credentials; separate providers let you use different services for drafting, SEO, and images. |
| Publication state | WordPress draft | Automatic publication | Drafts preserve human review; automatic publication is appropriate only when validation and governance justify the risk. |
| Source of truth | Google Sheets queue | Database or CMS | Sheets are transparent for a small queue; a database or CMS can better support higher concurrency and audit requirements. |
| Knowledge access | Context in the prompt | Tools, APIs, vector stores, or memory | Direct context suits small briefs; connected knowledge sources suit larger or frequently changing information. |
Handle knowledge and factual accuracy deliberately
A model only knows the context you provide through the prompt or connected tools. For a simple assignment, include the approved facts, source links, audience, and exclusions in the brief. For a larger knowledge base, n8n’s AI patterns can connect workflow tools, APIs, vector databases, and memory.
Do not treat a generated citation or confident sentence as proof. Require source notes or citations for factual articles, and route claims that affect safety, law, finance, or reputation to a person. The workflow can detect missing links or source fields, but it cannot determine truth merely because the output passes a formatting check.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.

Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Credential errors
Cause: an expired token, wrong sheet access, an unreachable WordPress REST API, or a provider credential mapped to the wrong node.
Fix: test each credential independently, verify the WordPress site is reachable through its REST API, and keep secrets in n8n credentials instead of prompt text.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsModel or provider drift
Cause: a provider changes a model, response shape, availability, or node label.
Fix: record the provider and model configuration with each run, inspect failed executions, and periodically re-test the workflow. The documented example workflow was updated eight months before the accompanying documentation review, so confirm current node names and provider availability before copying it exactly.
SEO over-optimization
Cause: the workflow treats model-generated keywords and metadata as final instructions.
Fix: use those fields as drafts. An editor should check that the title describes the article, the description is accurate, and keywords do not make the copy unnatural.
Operate the workflow safely
- Keep credentials in n8n’s credential system and restrict access to the workflow.
- Monitor failed executions and configure notifications for errors that require intervention.
- Store intermediate outputs so retries do not spend model credits unnecessarily.
- Keep a draft or approval state until an editor accepts the result.
- Log the provider, model configuration, content ID, status transitions, and WordPress response.
- Use manual execution while building; move to a schedule only after review gates and failure handling have been tested.
- Review prompts and output quality periodically instead of assuming a workflow will remain stable forever.
A practical first build
For a small editorial team, start with this conservative sequence: Manual Trigger → Google Sheets read → required-field validation → row marked processing → text generation → title and metadata generation → editorial checks → human approval → WordPress draft → image generation and media upload → WordPress update → Google Sheets status update. Run one row at a time until duplicate protection, retries, and review records work as intended. Then add a Schedule Trigger and increase throughput only when the queue, credentials, and monitoring can support it.
This design answers the common “Google Sheets to AI to WordPress” use case without hiding the decisions that matter. n8n automates the handoffs; your editorial rules still determine what is acceptable to publish.
