CoreProtect is a Minecraft server audit and rollback plugin. It records selected activity so authorized staff can determine what happened, where it happened, when it happened, and which account was involved. It can log blocks, container transfers, inventory and item movement, entities, chat, commands, signs, sessions, and username changes—but logging is shaped by world settings, blacklist rules, plugin version, and the event category.

That means CoreProtect can answer questions such as “Who broke this block?”, “Who withdrew items from this chest?”, and “What did a player type?” only when the relevant record was enabled and retained. The sections below map each event family to its lookup action and show how to investigate safely.

What CoreProtect records

CoreProtect is designed to create an audit trail of selected Minecraft server activity and to use matching records for administrative rollback or restoration. A record generally connects an account or event with an action and a location or world, allowing staff to investigate griefing, missing items, suspicious interactions, and other incidents.

It is not a universal replay of every tick on the server. The categories listed below are the documented event families, while per-world configuration, blacklist entries, version support, and retention determine which of them are actually present in your database.

Event map: actions CoreProtect can log

Lookup actions use the a: prefix. Narrow actions are available where the broad category contains more than one kind of event.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Lookup action What it covers Investigation question
a:block Blocks placed or broken, plus documented natural block breakage and related block changes Who changed this block, and when?
a:+block Block placements Who built or replaced this block?
a:-block Block breaks Who removed this block?
a:click Player interactions with interactable blocks, such as doors, buttons, levers, and containers, when that logging is enabled Who interacted with this block?
a:container Items put into or taken from chests and other logged containers Who deposited or withdrew an item?
a:+container Container deposits Who put this item into the container?
a:-container Container withdrawals Who took this item out?
a:inventory Items added to or removed from player inventories When did an item enter or leave a player’s inventory?
a:item World item transactions, including drops, throws, pickups, deposits, and withdrawals Where did a dropped or moved item go?
a:kill Mobs or animals killed; the API also distinguishes entity kills and player kills Who killed this entity or player?
Entity-spawn actions Entity spawns are an API action category Which records show an entity being spawned?
a:chat Player chat messages What chat message was sent, and by which account?
a:command Commands issued by players Which command was entered?
a:sign Text written on signs Who wrote or changed this sign text?
a:session Logins and logouts When did an account connect or disconnect?
a:username Username changes Which account changed its displayed name?

Blocks and natural changes

The a:block action is the main tool for grief investigations. It covers player placements and breaks, with a:+block and a:-block separating those directions. CoreProtect’s documented activity also includes natural block breakage and related block changes, so a result does not automatically prove that a player mined the block; inspect the actor and event details before assigning responsibility.

Interactions with doors, levers, buttons, and containers

a:click searches player interactions. The API’s logInteraction method records the block material and block data at a location. This makes interaction records useful for questions such as who opened a door, pressed a button, switched a lever, or interacted with a container, provided the relevant interaction logging is active. An interaction record is distinct from the item-transfer record that may follow it.

Chests, inventories, hoppers, and item movement

Container, inventory, and item records answer different parts of a missing-item investigation. a:container covers items put into or removed from chests and similar containers; a:+container limits results to deposits, while a:-container limits them to withdrawals. a:inventory follows additions to and removals from a player’s inventory. a:item covers world item transactions such as a player dropping or throwing an item, another player or mechanism picking it up, and documented deposits or withdrawals.

The project’s documented activity includes transfers through hoppers, droppers, and dispensers. For a chest complaint, check the container record first, then follow inventory and item records if the item may have been moved, dropped, or transferred by a mechanism. A missing chest entry can therefore reflect either disabled logging or a movement that occurred outside the specific container event you searched.

Kills, deaths, and spawns

a:kill searches mobs or animals killed. CoreProtect’s API action categories also include entity kills and player kills, as well as entity spawns. The project description says entity deaths include detailed death reasons, which can help distinguish ordinary combat from environmental or other causes when the event is recorded.

Chat, commands, signs, sessions, and names

CoreProtect can record player chat with a:chat, commands with a:command, and sign text with a:sign. Prefix filtering lets you search the beginning of a chat message, command, or sign entry instead of reviewing every matching event. Session records cover logins and logouts, while username records cover name changes. These categories are especially useful when a timeline needs to connect an in-game action with an account’s activity, but they remain subject to the server’s logging configuration.

Does CoreProtect log chat and commands?

Yes, chat and commands have dedicated lookup categories: a:chat and a:command. A lookup can add f:<prefix> to filter the message or command by its starting text. For example, searching for a command prefix can isolate administrative actions without displaying every command record.

Chat and command capture should not be assumed merely because the plugin is installed. Per-world settings and blacklist rules can disable logging for users or commands, and records may be unavailable if logging was changed before the incident. CoreProtect’s API documentation also notes that chat logging does not emit the same pre-log event callback used by some other categories. A plugin integrating with CoreProtect should use the dedicated lookup or API method for chat and commands rather than assuming every event behaves like a block-change callback.

How to inspect CoreProtect records in game

Use the inspector for a location-based check

  1. Run /co inspect to toggle the in-game inspector.
  2. Interact with the block or location you want to examine. The inspector is useful for a quick answer about a nearby block, container, or other logged interaction.
  3. Run /co inspect again when you are finished, so later clicks are not mistaken for investigation requests.

The inspector is a focused view. Use a lookup when you need a time range, a specific user, a wider radius, a world-wide search, or a message prefix.

Build a targeted lookup

/co lookup accepts selectors for user, time, location, world, action, inclusion, exclusion, and text prefix. The documented forms are:

  • u:<user> limits results to an account.
  • t:<time> limits the time range.
  • r:<radius> limits the search to a radius around the relevant location.
  • A world or global target can be used instead of a radius when the investigation is not tied to one small area.
  • a:<action> selects an event family such as a:block, a:-container, or a:command.
  • i:<include> includes specified blocks, items, entities, or users.
  • e:<exclude> excludes specified blocks, items, entities, or users.
  • f:<prefix> filters chat, command, or sign-text prefixes.

A generic combined form is /co lookup u:<user> t:<time> r:<radius> a:<action>. Replace each selector with the values relevant to the incident; do not treat the angle-bracket text as a literal username or action.

Count, summarize, or preview before acting

The special selectors #count, #summary, and #preview support different administrative checks. #count counts matching records. #summary produces material summaries. #preview previews the changes that a rollback would match, allowing staff to check scope before modifying the world.

A safe investigation and rollback workflow

  1. Preserve the scene. Record the world, coordinates, approximate incident time, affected materials, and suspected accounts before making repairs.
  2. Inspect locally. Toggle /co inspect and check the affected block or container to establish whether a direct record exists.
  3. Narrow the lookup. Combine the appropriate user, time, radius or world, action, include/exclude, and prefix filters. Start with the narrowest useful scope to avoid confusing unrelated events.
  4. Preview the impact. Use #count or #summary to understand the result set, then use #preview before a rollback.
  5. Back up before changing the world. CoreProtect’s rollback records are not a substitute for an independent, reliable server backup.
  6. Apply the administrative action. Use /co rollback to reverse matching changes. Use /co restore to reapply changes when a previous rollback needs to be undone.
  7. Verify the result. Recheck the repaired area and the lookup scope. Keep a record of who authorized the action and which filters were used.

Rollback, restore, purge, and lookup permissions should be limited according to the server’s operating procedures. CoreProtect’s product guidance emphasizes reliable backups, limited staff access, documented command procedures, and routine storage monitoring as parts of a stronger recovery setup.

Blacklist rules

blacklist.txt can disable logging for named users, commands, blocks, entities, and filtered item or container causes. A missing record may therefore be an intentional exclusion rather than a failed lookup. Review blacklist entries before concluding that the player or mechanism was not logged.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Version-dependent filtering

CoreProtect v23 or newer is required for block blacklist support, and v24 or newer is required for entity filtering. Check the installed version before promising that a particular block or entity exclusion is available.

Different API behavior by category

Not every category emits the same pre-log event callback. Chat and session logging are documented examples without that event emission. Integrations should call the appropriate typed lookup or dedicated API method for the category they need instead of treating all records as block events.

No single universal event total

There is no authoritative, version-independent number that represents every possible CoreProtect event. The documented action families and configuration options are a more accurate description than a headline count, because available records vary with version, world settings, blacklist rules, and enabled categories.

What CoreProtect can and cannot prove

  • It can provide an account-linked record for a logged action, its location or world, and its time, which is usually enough to investigate block changes, transfers, messages, or sessions.
  • It cannot prove an unlogged action. Disabled categories, blacklist exclusions, world-specific settings, or an event outside the plugin’s documented coverage leave no matching record to query.
  • A record’s category matters. A container withdrawal, an inventory removal, an item pickup, and a click are related but distinct event types; use the action that matches the question.
  • Rollback is an administrative operation, not a forensic guarantee. It acts on matching records, so broad filters can affect more of the world than intended. Preview and backup steps are essential.

Checklist for evaluating logging coverage on your server

Before relying on CoreProtect during an incident, verify these points in your own operating procedure:

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

  • The installed CoreProtect version and the version-dependent blacklist features it supports.
  • Per-world logging settings for every world where incidents can occur.
  • Blacklist entries for users, commands, blocks, entities, and item or container causes.
  • Which staff accounts can run lookup, rollback, restore, and purge commands.
  • How often independent backups run and how restoration is tested.
  • How long records are retained and how storage usage is monitored.
  • Which API method or lookup category an integration uses for blocks, containers, chat, commands, sessions, and other event families.

With those controls documented, CoreProtect provides a practical audit trail for investigating who changed a Minecraft world, moved an item, interacted with a block, sent a message, issued a command, or connected at a particular time—within the boundaries of the events your server chose to log.
