As of October 8, 2026, Digimon Alysion’s official site still listed a 2026 release schedule, while Pokémon TCG Pocket was already available on mobile. Bandai has outlined an appealing Digimon card-game app, but its 2025 closed-beta report includes both praise and usability complaints, not proof of how the finished game performs. The “killer” question can only be answered after Alysion launches and players can compare the two.
What is Digimon Alysion?
Bandai describes Alysion as a smartphone adaptation of the Digimon Card Game, set in a world inspired by DIGIMON LIBERATOR. It is planned to have a new story and original digital cards. Bandai says the base rules are the same as those of the physical Digimon Card Game, but that does not establish that every card, mode, or economy feature will match the tabletop game. The official Alysion site presents it as a mobile online card game, free-to-play with in-app purchases.
In Producer Letter Vol. 2, the Digimon Card Game Team put the distinction plainly: “The base game rules are the same as DCG but there will be original cards for DIGIMON ALYSION as well.” The producer letter supports seeing Alysion as a digital game with its own content, not simply a way to play every physical card online.
The site’s story material includes fictional technology such as D-STORAGE and T.A.L.E. Those belong to Alysion’s setting; they are not stated app requirements or real devices players need.

When can you play Alysion?
As of October 8, 2026, Alysion’s official homepage said “Scheduled for official release in 2026!” It did not list a specific launch day or say the game was already available. The announcement identifies a release window, not a confirmed date.
That status differs from Pokémon TCG Pocket, whose official site says it is available on the App Store and Google Play. Pocket is free-to-start with optional in-game purchases; Alysion is described as free-to-play with in-app purchases. Those labels establish that both have optional purchases, but they do not show which game is more generous or costs less to play.

What the Alysion closed beta suggests—and what it does not
Bandai’s closed beta ran from August 7, 2025 at 02:00 UTC through August 12, 2025 at 01:59 UTC. In a report dated September 17, 2025, the team summarized participant feedback and described areas it would consider improving. That report is a qualitative account of a test build, not a controlled comparison with Pocket or a guarantee of the final game’s quality. Read Bandai’s beta report.
What testers liked
Positive comments mentioned intuitive controls, an attractive interface and effects, appealing card art, satisfying battle pace, quick matchmaking at some times, and deck creation that some testers found accessible. Feedback was mixed, so these should be read as reported impressions—not universal consensus.

One anonymous beta participant wrote: “The number of cards in your hand increased when Digivolving, so it was difficult to run out of cards, and the pacing of battles was good.” It offers a glimpse of what one tester enjoyed, not an independent review or evidence of how the live game will balance.
What testers found difficult
The report also records complaints about unreliable touch inputs, small card text, battle effects that were hard to follow, difficult deck editing, and tutorials or animations that felt too long. Matchmaking sometimes repeated opponents or paired players across skill levels, particularly when fewer testers were online.

Which improvements were planned
Bandai said it was reviewing the battle-screen interface, adding information and features to help with deck building, and considering a better-paced tutorial. The report also described plans for improved UI, friend challenges, and additional language support. These are intentions reported in 2025; they do not confirm which changes have since shipped.
How Alysion and Pokémon TCG Pocket differ on paper
| Question | Digimon Alysion | Pokémon TCG Pocket |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | Official site displayed a 2026 release schedule as of October 8, 2026; no specific date was stated. Alysion site | Official site says it is available on the App Store and Google Play. Pocket site |
| Card-game identity | Based on the Digimon Card Game’s base rules, with a new story and original Alysion cards. Producer Letter Vol. 2 | Official site emphasizes collecting Pokémon cards, opening two booster packs daily at no cost, and cards with immersive artwork. Pocket site |
| Business model | Free-to-play with in-app purchases. Alysion site | Free-to-start with optional in-game purchases. Pocket site |
| Onboarding and deck-building evidence | Closed-beta report includes both positive impressions and usability complaints; final-release quality is not established by that report. Beta report | Not established by the cited official source. |
The differences give players a reason to be interested in Alysion: it brings Digimon’s card-game rules, setting, and original cards to mobile, while Pocket offers a Pokémon collecting experience that is already available. They do not establish which game is more fun, easier to learn, or better for any particular player. A fair judgment on Alysion’s onboarding and deck building needs evidence from its released version, not just its beta.

Could Alysion actually “kill” Pokémon TCG Pocket?
There is no verified comparison of the games’ active users, revenue, retention, downloads, or player preference in the cited official material. Without those figures—or a released Alysion to assess—claims that it will surpass or displace Pocket would be speculation.
For now, “Pokémon TCG Pocket killer” works as a provocative question, not a substantiated prediction. Alysion has a distinct franchise and a stated tabletop-inspired foundation, but Pocket has the practical advantage of being available now. Whether Alysion becomes a serious competitor will depend on its final gameplay, usability, content, and reception after launch; the beta report alone cannot settle that.
Are physical Digimon starter decks needed for Alysion?
No Alysion compatibility or app benefit for physical products is documented. Bandai describes physical Digimon Card Game starter decks as a way to begin playing the tabletop game; they are not identified as an Alysion prerequisite, accessory, or way to unlock digital cards. Players interested in Alysion should treat the mobile app and physical card game as separate products unless Bandai states otherwise.
