During the 2024 early-access window, active subscribers to Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, or Game Pass Console could play the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 multiplayer beta early. That beta has ended: early access ran August 30 to September 4, 2024, and the open beta ran September 6 to September 9, 2024. A subscription or game purchase now cannot grant access to that past event.
Who was eligible for early access?
Activision’s 2024 announcements named Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass PC, and Game Pass Console subscribers as eligible for the same beta early-access benefit offered with qualifying preorders. The subscription had to be active during the beta period. Activision’s preorder and editions announcement explained the eligibility and download routes.
- Game Pass Ultimate: Included in Activision’s eligible plan list.
- PC Game Pass: Eligible subscribers were directed to the Microsoft Store version of the beta.
- Game Pass Console: Eligible for console access, subject to the online multiplayer requirement described below.
The announcement did not promise that a Game Pass subscription unlocked the beta on Steam or Battle.net. Its PC instructions specified the Microsoft Store, so access on another storefront should not be assumed.
When did the Black Ops 6 beta run?
Activision’s official beta schedule set two separate weekends, both in 2024:
#1 Best Overall
- Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 90s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower.
- This is signature Black Ops across a cinematic single-player Campaign, a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, and the epic return of Round-Based Zombies.
- The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.
- In a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.
- Black Ops 6 also marks the epic return of Round-Based Zombies, the fan-favorite mode where players will take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch. Post-launch, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies.
| Period | Dates and start/end times | Who could play |
|---|---|---|
| Early Access weekend | August 30 at 10 a.m. PT to September 4 at 10 a.m. PT, 2024 | Eligible preorders and active subscribers to the named Game Pass plans |
| Open Beta weekend | September 6 at 10 a.m. PT to September 9 at 10 a.m. PT, 2024 | Players during the open beta period |
These windows are over. The original headline’s “coming to Game Pass in August” referred to the August 2024 early-access start, not a current or recurring benefit.
What did console players need for online play?
Activision cautioned that Game Pass Console subscribers might also need Game Pass Core, sold separately, or an upgrade to Game Pass Ultimate to play the beta’s online multiplayer content. Its July schedule announcement likewise noted that Core might be required for console multiplayer access. The requirement concerned online play; Game Pass eligibility alone did not remove it.

Does buying Black Ops 6 now unlock the beta?
No. Purchasing a copy of Black Ops 6 today cannot reopen or grant access to its completed 2024 beta. The beta’s preorder benefit applied before and during that event.
Physical console editions of the full game were released, but they do not change beta eligibility. Activision’s editions support page says physical editions are not compatible with Xbox Series S or a digital-only PlayStation 5.

Xbox Wire also announced that cloud access for Game Pass Ultimate began on October 25, 2024. These catalog listings concern the full game, not renewed beta access.
