What did the leaker actually say?
ComicBook.com reported on July 10, 2026 that McVicker described the game as almost complete. The same report said he did not commit to when Valve might reveal or release it: ComicBook.com’s report.

McVicker’s July 6 video discusses the reported HLX project and Valve’s projects, but its description includes a segment explicitly labeled “SPECULATION.” That is a reason to keep the claim attributed to him rather than present it as verified development news: McVicker’s video.
Has Valve confirmed Half-Life 3 or a release date?
No official confirmation is established by the cited coverage. FRVR reported on June 23, 2026 that Valve had not confirmed the long-rumored game, which dataminers have referred to as HLX: FRVR’s report. The available reports do not establish that HLX is Half-Life 3, that the game is complete, or that it has a scheduled release.

Do HLX clues or past timing rumors change the picture?
HLX and a Dota 2 code string
HLX is a label used in reporting and datamining discussions, not a confirmed Valve title. Digital Citizen reported on June 26, 2026 that a humorous Dota 2 code string did not confirm HLX or Half-Life 3: Digital Citizen’s explanation. A code reference in another game is not an announcement.
The missed spring 2026 expectation
Earlier reporting connected Half-Life 3 to a spring 2026 Steam Machine launch window. ComicBook.com and FRVR later reported that the expected launch-game association did not happen; Ars Technica had covered the earlier window in December 2025: Ars Technica’s report. That history shows why rumored timing should not be treated as a firm schedule. It does not, by itself, prove the current claim false.

How to judge the next Half-Life 3 report
- Official statement or leaker claim: Valve confirmation would carry a different status from a named commentator’s assessment.
- Direct evidence or interpretation: A verified announcement is stronger than an inference drawn from code or hardware timing.
- Development-stage claim or concrete news: Saying a game is nearly finished does not establish when it will be revealed or released.
- Firm date or speculative window: A release date should be treated as confirmed only when Valve states one.
Where the franchise stands meanwhile
Valve’s most recent released Half-Life game identified in the cited sources is Half-Life: Alyx, released March 23, 2020. Valve’s Steam listing describes it as set between Half-Life and Half-Life 2 and marked “VR Only”: Half-Life: Alyx on Steam. It provides a way to revisit the series, but it is not evidence that a sequel is imminent.
