The September 2026 Zelda announcements included a separate Ocarina of Time release for Switch 2, but neither Wii U HD remaster. Nintendo has announced the original GameCube The Wind Waker for its Switch 2 classics catalog; that is a different version of the game.
Have The Wind Waker HD or Twilight Princess HD been announced for Switch 2?
No. In the Nintendo announcements covered through October 8, 2026, there is no confirmed Switch 2 port, remaster, collection, release date, or price for either Wii U HD game. Their future remains unconfirmed, so it is not accurate to describe them as coming to Switch 2 or in development.
The September 2026 Zelda Direct announced Ocarina of Time as a separate 2026 Switch 2 release. That announcement does not confirm anything about the two Wii U remasters. Nintendo’s Switch 2 announcement and its later Zelda announcement establish what Nintendo has confirmed, not a plan for these unannounced ports.
Which The Wind Waker is available on Switch 2?
Nintendo announced the original GameCube The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for the Switch 2 Nintendo GameCube Classics catalog. Access is tied to a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. It is not The Wind Waker HD, the enhanced edition released for Wii U.

| Version | Platform or access | What is confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Original The Wind Waker | GameCube Classics catalog on Switch 2; Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership required | Nintendo announced it in the initial GameCube Classics lineup. |
| The Wind Waker HD | Wii U | No Switch 2 version has been announced. |
| Twilight Princess HD | Wii U | No Switch 2 version has been announced. |
The original GameCube release being available through the catalog is not evidence that the Wii U remaster will follow. The versions are distinct releases, and Nintendo has not confirmed a Switch 2 edition of either HD game.
Can you play the Wii U HD versions on Switch 2?
Do not assume so. Nintendo’s Switch 2 compatibility information concerns compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, and warns that some Switch games may not be supported or fully compatible. It does not establish compatibility with Wii U games. The HD versions should therefore be treated as Wii U releases unless Nintendo announces otherwise.

- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned and tested to ensure that it is working.
If you want to play those specific HD editions now, the relevant versions are the Wii U releases. Check current availability and the condition and region compatibility of any physical copy before buying; availability can change.
Do rumors or former Nintendo comments indicate a port is coming?
No reliable confirmation is established by the material available. A proposed double-pack of the two games has circulated as fan speculation, but recurring rumor is not evidence of a Nintendo release plan.

GamesRadar+ reported comments from former Nintendo of America employee Krysta Yang about the company’s past practice of holding some completed ports for strategically chosen release windows. Yang left Nintendo in 2022 and said she did not know how the company was operating during the Switch 2 period. Her remarks do not establish that these Zelda games are finished, being held, or planned for release.

A Nintendo announcement naming either game, its platform, and release details would settle the question. Until then, the distinction is straightforward: the original GameCube The Wind Waker is confirmed for the Switch 2 classics catalog, while The Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD remain unannounced for Switch 2.
