- Note the application name shown in the error dialog.
- Check whether the error appears when Windows starts, when a shortcut is opened, or when a launcher starts a game.
- Record whether the program is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Check whether the failure began after an update, uninstall, antivirus quarantine, disk cleanup, or backup restoration.
- Look for the file beside the program’s executable or in its private runtime folder.
cpprest110_1_3.dll is an application DLL from Microsoft’s C++ REST SDK, historically called Casablanca. It is not a normal Windows component, so the safest repair is to restore the application that installed it.

What cpprest110_1_3.dll means
The official C++ REST SDK naming convention uses this pattern:
<name><Visual Studio toolset>[platform flavor]_<library version>.dll
That makes the filename readable:
cpprestidentifies the C++ REST SDK.110identifies the Visual Studio 2012, or VC++ 11, toolset.1_3identifies SDK library version 1.3.
The SDK provides native HTTP, JSON, URI, WebSocket, OAuth, and asynchronous-task functionality. Microsoft’s C++ REST SDK documentation describes those components.
#1 Best Overall
- Less chaos, more calm. The refreshed design of Windows 11 enables you to do what you want effortlessly.
- Biometric logins. Encrypted authentication. And, of course, advanced antivirus defenses. Everything you need, plus more, to protect you against the latest cyberthreats.
- Make the most of your screen space with snap layouts, desktops, and seamless redocking.
- Widgets makes staying up-to-date with the content you love and the news you care about, simple.
- Stay in touch with friends and family with Microsoft Teams, which can be seamlessly integrated into your taskbar. (1)
The filename does not identify one particular consumer application, and it does not prove whether the file is 32-bit or 64-bit. An older commercial application, utility, installer, game component, or developer-built program may have included it.
The project is archived and no longer maintained, so the original application vendor is the best source for a matching build. Microsoft records that status in the C++ REST SDK repository.
Fix 1: repair or reinstall the application that owns the DLL
This is the highest-probability fix.
If the program appears in Installed apps
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find the program named in the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair and wait for it to finish.
- Start the program again.
If there is no Repair option:
- Select the application.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the installer from the application developer or vendor.
- Install the same product again.
- Start it before restoring custom settings or third-party add-ons.
Do not uninstall a program before confirming which application is failing if the error appears during startup.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →If it is a game or launcher
Open the launcher and look for a command named Verify, Verify integrity, Repair, Scan and repair, or Check files. Run that command, allow it to replace missing files, then restart the launcher.
A launcher repair is preferable to downloading the DLL separately because it restores the exact file set expected by that game or application.
If the application is not obvious
Use these checks:
- Right-click the shortcut that produces the error.
- Select Properties.
- Read the Target field to identify the executable and installation folder.
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Startup apps and look for unfamiliar entries that launch at sign-in.
- Check Event Viewer by right-clicking Start, selecting Event Viewer, and reviewing Windows Logs > Application around the failure time.
If an antivirus product quarantined the file, open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Protection history. Restore it only when the application and installer are trusted and the detection is demonstrably false. Otherwise, reinstall the application from its vendor and contact that vendor.
Fix 2: install the matching Visual C++ 2012 runtime
The 110 in the filename refers to the Visual Studio 2012 toolset. The Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 runtime may be a dependency of the DLL or of the application, but it does not normally recreate cpprest110_1_3.dll.
Use Microsoft’s Visual Studio 2012 redistribution information or Microsoft’s supported Visual C++ redistributable downloads.
Choose the architecture carefully:
- For a 32-bit application, install the x86 package, even on 64-bit Windows.
- For a 64-bit application, install the x64 package.
- If you are unsure and both packages are available from Microsoft, installing both can cover separate 32-bit and 64-bit applications.
The Visual C++ 2012 Update 4 packages use names that identify the architecture, including:
en_visual_cpp_redistributable_for_visual_studio_2012_update_4_x86_3161523.exe
en_visual_cpp_redistributable_for_visual_studio_2012_update_4_x64_3161523.exe
After installation:
- Restart Windows.
- Run the application again.
- If the same DLL is still missing, repair or reinstall the application. The runtime was only a dependency and was not the missing application file.
Do not assume that Visual C++ 2015, 2017, or a current v14 runtime replaces Visual C++ 2012. Multiple Visual C++ generations can be installed side by side.
Fix 3: check whether the file exists but cannot load
A message saying “the specified module could not be found” does not always mean cpprest110_1_3.dll itself is absent. The DLL may exist while another dependency is missing.
Check the application’s installation folder:
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Read the Target path.
- Open that folder in File Explorer.
- Search the folder and its subfolders for
cpprest110_1_3.dll.
If the file is present, do not copy another version over it. The error may indicate:
- A missing Visual C++ runtime.
- A 32-bit and 64-bit mismatch.
- A corrupted DLL.
- A missing dependent DLL.
- An incompatible update.
- A damaged application installation.
A 32-bit program cannot load a 64-bit copy of the DLL, and a 64-bit program cannot use a 32-bit copy. The 110 portion identifies the compiler toolset, not CPU architecture. Reinstalling the exact application build is safer than substituting a similarly named file such as cpprest120 or cpprest140.
If the file is present but the error says “not designed to run on Windows” or mentions a missing entry point, treat it as a compatibility or corruption problem. Repair the parent application and reinstall its required runtime.
Fix 4: repair Windows components only when Windows itself is failing
SFC and DISM are not normal ways to restore a third-party C++ REST SDK DLL. Use them when several unrelated Windows components are failing, Windows features are damaged, or system repairs are reporting broader corruption.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Apply pending updates through Settings > Windows Update.
- Test the affected application again.
Microsoft documents the DISM repair procedure and SFC and DISM troubleshooting.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM will not normally put cpprest110_1_3.dll back into an application folder. If Windows repairs complete successfully but the application still fails, return to the application’s repair or reinstall process.

A driver update is not a normal fix for cpprest110_1_3.dll. Use Device Manager only if the same program also reports graphics, audio, network, storage, or device errors.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the device category related to the failure.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a graphics-dependent application, obtain the driver from the graphics hardware manufacturer or computer maker. Do not replace the application DLL with a driver package.
If checking each device manually is the difficult part, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers; the free scan shows the findings, while the full version performs driver installation. It is not a substitute for repairing the application that owns cpprest110_1_3.dll.
Do not copy the DLL into System32
Avoid downloading cpprest110_1_3.dll from a random DLL website. An uploaded file may contain malware, use the wrong architecture, belong to a different SDK build, or leave the actual missing dependency unresolved.
Do not place the file manually in:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those folders are not general-purpose storage for application DLLs. Copying the file there can create version conflicts and make future troubleshooting harder.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The normal location is beside the application executable or in a private runtime directory created by the application installer. Historical Microsoft NuGet material also identifies cpprestsdk and cpprestsdk.redist packages, which place SDK runtime files into a project or solution output rather than treating them as Windows system files.
Do not use regsvr32 for this runtime DLL
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose COM or ActiveX registration entry points. A C++ REST SDK runtime DLL is normally loaded by its application and is not normally self-registering.
Running this command is therefore not a standard repair:
regsvr32 cpprest110_1_3.dll
If it reports that DllRegisterServer was not found, that usually means registration does not apply. Microsoft documents regsvr32 behavior and syntax.

Last-resort recovery and persistent errors
If repair and reinstall do not work:
- Confirm that the installer matches the application’s architecture.
- Temporarily check whether antivirus quarantine removed the file.
- Test the application from a new local Windows user profile.
- Review permissions on the application folder.
- Use a reputable dependency-analysis tool to identify which import is missing.
- Send the exact error and application version to the vendor.
- If disk damage or malware is suspected, run Microsoft Defender Offline and check the disk.
- Use System Restore only as a last-resort rollback to a known-good state.
Do not preserve a suspicious DLL merely because its filename looks correct. If the application vendor no longer distributes the program, the vendor’s support channel or an archived installer from an authorized source is safer than an isolated DLL download.
FAQ
Is cpprest110_1_3.dll part of Windows?
No. It belongs to the Microsoft C++ REST SDK and is normally supplied by the application that uses it.
Does 110 mean 110-bit Windows?
No. It refers to the Visual Studio 2012 or VC++ 11 toolset. It does not identify the CPU architecture.
Should I install Visual C++ 2012?
Possibly. Install or repair the matching Microsoft runtime when the application reports a dependent-runtime problem, but understand that it will not normally install cpprest110_1_3.dll itself.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsShould I put the file in System32?
No. Restore it through the application’s installer, normally into the application directory or its private runtime folder.
Why does the error say the module is missing when the file is visible?
The named DLL may be present while one of its dependencies is missing, damaged, or the wrong architecture.
Will SFC or DISM restore this file?
Usually not. They repair Windows components, while this DLL belongs to a third-party application.
What if only one Windows account has the problem?
Test the program from a new local profile. A damaged per-user configuration, permissions issue, or user-specific PATH can prevent a correctly installed application from loading its runtime.
What is the safest final fix?
Identify the owning program, repair or reinstall its exact build, install the required Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 runtime when indicated, and let the application vendor provide the matching DLL.
