Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is a polished visual remake of the first three Crash games—not a new fourth entry. It is most appealing if you want to revisit those platformers with refreshed presentation; the trade-off is that their older challenge and design can still feel frustrating by modern standards.
What’s included in N. Sane Trilogy?
The collection bundles Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. Activision lists Vicarious Visions as the studio and June 30, 2017, as the PS4 release date. The collection is also listed for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC. Activision’s product page identifies the games and platforms.
Activision’s March 2018 announcement described features including more than 100 levels, playable Coco, analog-stick support, unified save and checkpoint systems, improved bonus levels, and time trials. These are publisher-described features; that announcement does not establish that the versions play identically across platforms. Activision’s announcement also said the PC/Steam release supported Steam Controller and mouse-and-keyboard options.
What do reviews praise—and criticize?
The visual refresh
The clearest shared positive in the cited critic excerpts is the updated presentation and the pleasure of seeing familiar games refreshed. A GamesBeat excerpt indexed on Metacritic’s critic-review page praises how good the games look, while also cautioning that their gameplay can frustrate. That makes the trilogy especially attractive to returning fans who value the originals’ characters and levels.

The old-school challenge
The makeover does not erase the original games’ design. GameSpot reviewer Peter Brown’s June 28, 2018 review describes three classics with a fresh coat of paint but says they remain old at heart. GameSpot scored the collection 6/10. The review’s criticism is relevant if you expect forgiving modern platforming: the trilogy retains older-feeling challenge and level design rather than rebuilding the games around contemporary conventions. Read GameSpot’s review.
Is it difficult for someone new to Crash?
It can be. The cited reviews explicitly flag the retained challenge and potential for frustration, but the available evidence does not establish a single difficulty level that applies to every player or game in the collection. If you are new to Crash, go in expecting precise platforming and older design rather than a gentle introduction. If you enjoy replaying difficult sections and learning levels through practice, that same quality may be part of the appeal.

Which platform should you choose?
Choose based on the system you own and prefer; the collection is listed for PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC. The material cited here does not establish comparative frame rates, resolution, loading times, or control parity, so a general review score should not be treated as proof that every port performs the same.

How should you read the scores?
Scores below describe different things: a critic’s individual review, an aggregate figure displayed by a retailer page, and a storefront rating from players are not interchangeable.

Who should buy N. Sane Trilogy?
- Good fit: returning fans who want the first three games with refreshed visuals, or platform-game players who enjoy older challenge.
- Less suitable: players looking for a new Crash adventure, modernized level design, or a reliably forgiving difficulty curve.
- Before choosing a port: confirm the platform edition and its current store details; the cited evidence does not establish performance equivalence between systems.
