The names are easy to confuse: Create Aeronautica is commonly used for the modpack or server pack, while Create Aeronautics is the individual mod. Launcher and hosting searches may use either spelling, so check the project’s current release page before installing anything.

What you need before installing
Prepare the same game version, loader, Java runtime, and mod files on the server and on every player’s computer. A modded server can start successfully while still refusing connections if one client has a different file or dependency version.

Release numbers are changing. One community listing identifies a 1.3.0 build for Minecraft 1.21.1, while a Modrinth result identified 1.2.1 for the same game version. Treat those as snapshots, not a permanent compatibility rule. Select one current pack release and use its exact dependency versions everywhere.

Check Java before you do anything else
Open a terminal or command prompt and run:
java -versionThe output should identify Java 21. If it reports an older release, install a 21-capable Java distribution and make sure the server start script uses that installation rather than an older Java executable still on your system path.
Use a clean, dedicated server directory
Create a new folder solely for this server. Avoid spaces and unusual punctuation in the path; one installation walkthrough specifically uses a no-spaces folder because scripts and installers are less likely to fail there. Keep backups outside the live folder so a failed update cannot overwrite your only copy of the world.
Hosted server or self-hosted server?
Both approaches run the same NeoForge pack. The difference is who handles the operating system, networking, backups, and recovery work.

Choose hosting if you want friends to connect without changing your router or maintaining a machine that stays online. Choose self-hosting if you are comfortable with Java processes, file permissions, backups, and network administration. Neither option removes the requirement that clients use the same mod set.
Option 1: Install Create Aeronautica with a hosting panel
Many game-server panels include a modpack browser. The labels differ, and the pack may be indexed as “Create Aeronautic” rather than “Create Aeronautica,” so search both spellings.

- Create the server. Select a Minecraft Java server and choose a plan with at least 6 GB of memory. If you expect 5–10 players, community guidance commonly places the requirement around 6–8 GB. Leave room to increase the allocation later.
- Open the modpack installer. In the panel’s modpack or installer section, search for Create Aeronautica, Create Aeronautic, or Create Aeronautics. Confirm that the result is the intended pack, not a similarly named individual mod.
- Confirm the game and loader versions. Set Minecraft to 1.21.1 and NeoForge. Do not allow the panel to silently choose a different loader or a Fabric-based variant.
- Install one release. Select the current release shown by the project page. Record its pack version and dependency versions so every client can reproduce them.
- Start once. Launch the server and wait for world creation and the first complete startup. Stop it again before editing files or adding optional mods.
- Read the console and log. A successful boot should not end with a dependency, mixin, or missing-class error. If it does, stop and correct the version combination before inviting anyone.
- Install the matching client pack. Each player must use Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge, Java 21 where their launcher requires it, and the same Create, Sable, Create Aeronautics, and pack files.
- Test with one player. Join before distributing the address to the whole group. Check that a player can load into the world, place blocks, and use a small contraption without immediate errors.
A hosted panel can simplify installation, but it does not guarantee that its catalog is current. Compare the panel’s pack version with the current official project listing whenever you create or update a server.

Self-hosting is appropriate when you have a computer that can remain online and you want direct access to every file. The following process reflects the community server-pack walkthroughs while allowing for differences between releases.
- Download the server pack. Use the current server-pack download from the project’s official distribution page. Do not use a client-only download if a separate server archive is provided.
- Extract it to a simple path. Use a folder with no spaces, such as a short server directory on a fast drive. Do not run the server from a temporary download folder.
- Verify Java. Run
java -versionand confirm Java 21 before running the installer. If the archive includes an installer, allow it to finish in the server directory. - Run the included setup script. Some walkthroughs use
start.baton Windows. The filename can change between pack releases, so use the script included with your archive rather than creating a replacement with guessed arguments. - Accept the Minecraft EULA when prompted. Read the EULA file, then change its acceptance setting only if you agree to it. A server will normally stop until this is completed.
- Start again and wait for a clean boot. The first launch may create configuration files and a world and can take longer than later launches. Do not close the process while it is writing these files.
- Stop gracefully. Use the server console’s stop command instead of closing the window. This gives the world time to save and reduces corruption risk.
- Back up the world and configuration. Copy the world directory,
server.properties, and the relevant configuration and mod folders to a separate location before changing versions.
If the pack does not include a usable script, consult its own readme for the exact NeoForge installer command. Do not substitute an installer for another Minecraft version or loader; a script that starts is not proof that the mod set is compatible.
Adding the pack to an existing NeoForge server
Stop the server completely before changing mods. Copy the required mod files into the server’s mods folder, then install the identical files on every client. Keep a backup of the world and the previous mods folder so you can revert if startup fails.
Consider a new world when a newly added mod changes world generation. Existing chunks may not contain the mod’s structures or resources, and mixing old and new generation rules can produce an uneven world. If you keep the existing world, test in a backup copy first and explore newly generated terrain before making the change permanent.

Install the client side correctly
A server pack is not enough for players. NeoForge checks the client’s mod list during login, and a missing or mismatched required mod can result in a refused connection.
- Install Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1 in the launcher you use.
- Install the NeoForge profile for Minecraft 1.21.1.
- Launch that profile once, then close the game so its folders are created.
- Copy the client version of the Create Aeronautica pack, or add the same Create, Sable, and Create Aeronautics files used by the server. Follow the project’s release notes for any additional required libraries.
- Do not add shaders, optimization mods, or personal client mods until a plain installation can join successfully.
- Launch the NeoForge profile and connect to the server. If the login screen reports a missing mod, compare filenames and versions character by character with the server.
Every player needs this matching setup, not just the person who owns the server. A player using a newer Aeronautics build or a different Create version may be rejected even when the game and loader versions look correct.
Memory and CPU planning
There is no single proven memory number for every Create Aeronautica world. Community recommendations include 6 GB, 6–8 GB for roughly 5–10 players, and at least 8 GB with more than 10 GB for a large pack. Treat those figures as starting guidance rather than a benchmark.

Do not allocate all of a host computer’s memory to Minecraft. The operating system, Java, backups, and other services need room. Increase the server allocation in measured steps and restart between changes instead of repeatedly raising it without checking logs.

Create-style flight can be CPU-intensive. Each flying contraption runs rigid-body physics every tick, so the processor is often the limiting component when players take off or several machines operate together. More RAM cannot compensate for a CPU that cannot keep up with the simulation. Prefer a recent, high-clock-speed processor and avoid running unrelated workloads on the same machine.

Networking and access for friends
A hosted server normally gives you a public address without changes to your home router. With a self-hosted server, players outside your network generally need router port forwarding to the machine running Minecraft. The exact menu names differ by router, and an incorrect rule can expose other services on your home network.
- Give the server computer a stable local address so a forwarding rule does not break after a reboot.
- Forward only the game service you intend to expose; do not open broad ranges “just to make it work.”
- Keep the operating system, Java installation, and router firmware updated.
- Use a whitelist and strong account security for a private group.
- If you are not comfortable auditing firewall and router rules, use a hosted server instead of exposing a home machine.
The pack itself does not remove ordinary Minecraft account or network security requirements. Never use an unlicensed launcher or a “cracked” server package to bypass authentication; use legitimate Minecraft accounts and the official game client.
Updating the pack without breaking the world
Modpack versions and dependency requirements can change independently. A community addon listing has shown pins such as Create 6.0.10–6.1, Create Aeronautics 1.3.2–1.4, and Sable 2.0.5–2.1, but those ranges are third-party guidance rather than a definitive compatibility matrix. Do not copy them blindly to a different release.
- Read the current pack and mod release notes and identify the exact Minecraft, NeoForge, Create, Sable, and Aeronautics versions.
- Stop the server and make a complete backup of the world, configuration, and current mod files.
- Test the update in a separate copy of the server directory.
- Start the test copy, inspect the log, and join with a test client using the same files.
- Check existing contraptions, inventories, chunk loading, and world generation before replacing the live installation.
- Update every client at the same time. Keep the previous pack archive available for rollback.
If a release page and a hosting catalog disagree about the newest build, favor the current official project listing and verify that the server-pack and client-pack versions correspond.

The server stops with an out-of-memory error
Open the latest server log and search for OutOfMemoryError. Increase the allocation to at least 6 GB if it is lower, then monitor the server during the same activity that caused the failure. If the error returns, add memory in moderate increments, reduce simultaneous loaded activity, and check whether another process is consuming the host’s RAM.

A mixin or ClassNotFoundException appears during startup
These errors commonly indicate that the Minecraft version, NeoForge version, pack release, or one of its dependencies does not match. Remove manually added files, restore the known-good pack, and compare the server and client mod directories. Do not solve a missing-class error by downloading a random similarly named jar; obtain the dependency from the pack’s release information.
The server starts, but a client is refused
Compare the client’s Minecraft version, NeoForge build, Create version, Sable version, Create Aeronautics version, and optional dependency files with the server. A client must have the required mods installed as well. Delete duplicate older jars from the client’s mods folder and try again.

Remove Iris Shaders and extra performance modifications for the first successful launch. Start with only the pack’s required files, confirm that a client can join, and add optional performance tools one at a time. This isolates a rendering-side conflict from a server-pack problem.
Players experience severe lag during flight
Lower the server’s view-distance to 8 in server.properties, restart, and test the same route again. Use /spark profiler to identify the task consuming the tick budget. Physics from large or numerous flying contraptions can overload the CPU even when memory use appears normal, so reduce simultaneous activity or redesign the busiest machines after profiling.
A world looks wrong after adding the mod
World-generation changes do not rewrite every already-generated chunk. Restore the backup and test a new world or newly generated area before continuing. If the mod’s structures or resources are missing from old terrain, that is expected behavior rather than proof that the server failed to load the mod.
Recommended first-session checklist
- Confirm Java 21 with
java -version. - Confirm Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge 1.21.1 in both server and client profiles.
- Use one verified pack release, not a mixture of files from different releases.
- Install Create, Sable, and Create Aeronautics on the server and every client.
- Allocate at least 6 GB and leave operating-system memory available.
- Start with no shaders or extra performance mods.
- Back up the world before adding mods or changing versions.
- Test with one player before opening the server to the whole group.
- Use a whitelist and cautious firewall settings for a private server.
Which setup should you choose?
For most groups, a hosted NeoForge server is the fastest way to get Create Aeronautica running because the panel can install the loader and pack while avoiding home-router exposure. Self-hosting is worthwhile when you need complete control, already operate a reliable machine, and are prepared to maintain Java, backups, networking, and crash recovery. Whichever route you choose, the decisive compatibility rule is the same: Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge, Java 21, and identical Create, Sable, and Create Aeronautics files on the server and every client.
