The SS-to-C grades some tier lists use are fan-made rankings. This guide explains the distinction and reports one dated, stat-based fan ranking without treating it as a universal verdict.
What do the tiers mean in Creatures of Sonaria?
The community wiki describes creature tiers as a way to distinguish different-sized creatures. Size can be related to damage and health, but the relationship is not consistent enough to make Tier 5 an automatic “strongest” label. The wiki also says tiers help determine the price of a stored creature. These are community-wiki explanations, not a quoted developer definition. Read the community wiki’s tier explanation.
Tier 1 through Tier 5 is the game’s size classification. Labels such as SS, S, A, B, and C are editorial grades used by particular fan lists; they are not official game tiers. A list that grades strength should identify who made it, what it measures, and which version of the game data it uses.
One dated, stat-based ranking of all creatures
The Creatures of Sonaria Wiki fan ranking reports 481 released creatures, using a stat-table revision dated September 4, 2026. Its scores are outputs of a specific formula, not official standings or live-game test results. See the fan ranking and its stated method.

How the fan ranking calculates its scores
The ranking combines three normalized stats: bite damage per second contributes 45%, health 35%, and sprint speed 20%. Each stat is measured against the highest value in the dataset. That makes the scoring method easier to reproduce, but the weights still express the publisher’s chosen priorities. A list that values health or mobility differently can produce different placements.

The formula is a narrow comparison of damage, durability, and sprint speed. It does not establish the best creature for every combat matchup, solo survival, travel, or group play, and the listed formula does not account for every ability or play condition.
Which creature tier should a new player choose?
Choose by what you want to do, not by aiming automatically for Tier 5. A larger creature may suit a player who prioritizes size and durability, while a smaller or faster option may be more useful for travel or a particular survival plan. The right choice depends on the role and conditions, not just the tier label or an overall score.

- For combat: decide whether you care most about damage, health, speed, or abilities. The fan formula above covers only damage, health, and sprint speed.
- For solo survival: consider whether you can reliably find food and water and manage the creature in the biome where you play.
- For travel: weigh speed and stamina against the size and other traits you value.
- For group play: consider how the creature fits the group’s size, composition, and intended role.
Growth stage, biome, food and water access, group size, and balance updates can all affect practical value. Treat any broad “best creature” list as a starting point, not a substitute for matching a creature to your situation.

They may be answering different questions. An overall stat score, a combat-focused grade, and a role-based recommendation do not measure the same thing. Even lists that use similar stats can differ because of weighting, the data snapshot, or whether they cover Recode or Legacy. The community stats page provides separate sortable Recode and Legacy tables, so check which ruleset a list uses before comparing its placements.

Those dates describe separate sources and should not be merged into one synchronized roster or balance snapshot. Creature counts and balance details can change, so use the source’s date and ruleset when interpreting any ranking.
