On PS5, open Settings > Accessories > Headset > PS Link Device Software Update and follow the on-screen instructions if an update is available. You can also update a PULSE Elite without a PS5 using Sony’s PlayStation Link PC Driver on a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC.

Choose how to update your PULSE Elite

Option What you need Where to start
PS5 A PS5 and the headset Settings > Accessories > Headset > PS Link Device Software Update
Windows PC Windows 10 or Windows 11, the PlayStation Link USB adapter, an internet connection, suitable USB ports, and Sony’s PlayStation Link PC Driver Connect the adapter and headset, then use the driver’s quick menu

Sony calls these updates “device software” in its PS5 instructions and “firmware” in its PC Driver guide; both refer to updates for PS Link devices. Sony’s PlayStation Link PC Driver guide also lists 20 MB or more storage and a display resolution of 1280 × 800 or higher as PC system requirements.

Update the headset on PS5

  1. On the PS5, go to Settings > Accessories > Headset > PS Link Device Software Update.
  2. If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to install it. Sony’s PS5 PlayStation Link update instructions cover the headset and USB adapter software.

Update the headset from a Windows PC

Use Sony’s PlayStation Link PC Driver rather than PlayStation Accessories. Sony describes PlayStation Accessories as supporting products such as DualSense controllers; the PS Link PC Driver is the utility for PS Link devices such as PULSE Elite.

  1. Install and open the PlayStation Link PC Driver on a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC. The PC needs an internet connection for driver installation.
  2. Insert the PlayStation Link USB adapter into the PC and connect the headset to the adapter.
  3. Before starting an update, connect the headset to the PC with a USB cable and make sure it has enough battery.
  4. Open the driver’s quick menu. Beside Firmware, choose Update available, then follow the instructions. If Windows notifies you that an update is required, follow that prompt. An available update that is not required can be started manually.
  5. If the adapter also has an update, select the Update Now notification. If both the adapter and headset updates are offered, update the adapter first.

Do not turn off the PC or disconnect the headset while an update is in progress. Sony’s US PC Driver page currently warns: “We are currently updating the PS Link Driver. We expect users may lose functionality while this update rolls out. We expect to restore functionality within the next few months.” Sony does not specify which functions may be affected or give an exact restoration date.
