What kind of game is Crimson Desert?
Developed by Pearl Abyss, Crimson Desert takes place on the continent of Pywel. Its action combines melee weapons, ranged attacks, and hand-to-hand moves; outside combat, you can explore through activities such as climbing and gliding. Pearl Abyss announced a worldwide launch on March 19, 2026, for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Mac, and ROG Xbox Ally. What does the PC review say?
PC Gamer reviewer Mollie Taylor scored Crimson Desert 80/100. The review presents a game that can be both fascinating and frustrating: its large collection of mechanics and discoveries rewards players willing to experiment, while its questing and opaque or dated-feeling systems can make progress feel needlessly unclear. The story’s pacing is also uneven, which may matter if you value a coherent, consistently driven narrative over the freedom to roam.

Taylor reported spending 75 hours with the game and still feeling as though she had barely scratched the surface. That is a measure of the reviewer’s experience, not a promise of a particular playtime for every player. Is Crimson Desert worth playing on PC?

The same abundance may feel like friction if you prefer direct quest objectives, polished guidance, or a tightly paced story. The review’s central tension is not simply that the game is large; it is that its many parts do not always feel clearly signposted or equally well integrated.
- Consider it if: you like open-ended exploration, mechanical variety, and figuring things out without constant guidance.
- Be cautious if: you want streamlined questing, an immediately clear set of systems, or a consistently paced narrative.

How well does Crimson Desert run on PC?
Performance varies with hardware, software, and graphics settings. Pearl Abyss says the PC version requires the latest DirectX 12; consult its PC performance notice for the official guidance.
One TechRadar reviewer reported around 70 fps at native 3440×1440 on Cinematic settings, using an RTX 4080 Super, Ryzen 5700X3D, and 32 GB of RAM, including in several demanding situations.
