That is a one-week comparison from a chart-tracking outlet, not a Sony subscriber census, sales result, or all-time popularity ranking.
What the August 2024 comparison measured
Sony announced the August PlayStation Plus Game Catalog on August 14, 2024. Both The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cult of the Lamb were listed for PS4 and PS5, with access beginning August 20 for Extra and Premium members. Sony described The Witcher 3 as an open-world fantasy adventure starring Geralt of Rivia, while Cult of the Lamb pairs community-building with exploration and combat. Sony’s announcement cautioned that the catalog lineup could differ by region.

TrueTrophies reported the 55.4% difference for the shared launch week ending Sunday, August 25, 2024. The figure concerns players tracked in that defined period; it does not establish which game sold more or attracted more players across platforms or over its lifetime. The accessible report excerpt does not state the sample size or explain its collection and estimation method, so the result should remain attributed to TrueTrophies rather than treated as an exact service-wide count. TrueTrophies’ report is the source for the comparison.
The Witcher 3 also saw a reported rise
The same TrueTrophies report said The Witcher 3‘s PS4 and PS5 player count increased 130.93% within a week. It reached 32nd on TrueTrophies’ overall PlayStation Chart, according to the outlet. Those figures describe the outlet’s tracking context, not Sony’s own published rankings or counts.

In a related ranking, TrueTrophies placed The Witcher 3 second among the August 2024 PS Plus Extra additions and 21st among Extra games for the year to that point. Those placements show that the game still performed strongly in the outlet’s chart context even though Cult of the Lamb led the specific first-week comparison. The outlet’s report is the source for these rankings as well.
