Later PC reviews also reported smooth performance on a separate PC, while a March 2026 review found significant problems on base PS5. The difficulty verdict is just as qualified: some boss fights were described as brutal, but one PS5 reviewer distinguished those spikes from the game’s overall challenge. Updates later added difficulty settings and other quality-of-life changes.
What the performance leak actually says
A March 17, 2026 report by Notebookcheck relayed a Korean streamer’s impression of steady performance at 1440p on an RTX 5080 with the demanding Cinematic mode enabled. That is a secondhand account of one configuration, not a controlled benchmark or a finding that applies to all PCs. The report itself left console performance uncertain.
The same leak-era account characterized exploration and combat as punishing, with a steep learning curve. It emphasized upgrading Kliff’s skills and stats, and noted that side quests can provide inventory space. Those are early impressions, not a consensus measure of the finished game’s difficulty.
How PC and PlayStation performance compare
PC: positive reports, tied to specific rigs
PC Gamer’s review disclosed a test system with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070, AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT, and 32 GB of RAM. Its reviewer reported no performance concerns during boss fights, large battles, or open-world exploration, including scenes with many warriors and horses. The review did note texture pop-in. This is one reviewer’s experience on that setup and build, not a guarantee for other hardware or settings.

Together, the RTX 5080 leak report and the RTX 3070 review are encouraging PC-specific accounts, but they do not establish how the game performs across the wider range of PC configurations. Pearl Abyss’s March 10, 2026 performance notice says its PC figures come from internal testing, warns that results vary with hardware, software, and graphics settings, and lists DirectX 12 as a requirement.
PS5: launch-review findings differed by model and mode
In its March 2026 review of the original release build, Push Square reported screen tearing, frame-rate fluctuations, and fuzzy 1080p visuals in Performance mode on base PS5. It found Quality mode generally more stable, but running at 30 fps. On PS5 Pro, the reviewer described smoother overall performance, while still reporting pop-in, image-reconstruction artifacts, and severe drops in demanding areas. These are dated review observations, not a claim about every later patch or the current performance of each console.
The contrast matters: the positive PC reports should not be read as evidence that the March 2026 PS5 build performed similarly. Pearl Abyss announced a worldwide launch for March 19, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Apple Mac, Epic Games Store, and ROG Xbox Ally; the supplied review findings cover PC and PlayStation, not every listed platform. The publisher describes the game as an open-world action-adventure built around combo-based combat, flexible progression, and traversal including climbing and gliding. Its announcement lists English, Korean, and Chinese voice acting, with subtitles in 14 languages. See the launch announcement for the publisher’s platform and language information.
Is Crimson Desert brutally difficult?
Boss fights can be the sharpest difficulty spikes
PC Gamer called boss encounters brutal and at times unfair, pointing to demanding dodge and parry timing, long recovery periods, relentless attacks, and the need to heal. That description concerns particular fights and the reviewer’s experience; it does not mean every encounter presents the same level of challenge.

Overall challenge was not described the same way by every reviewer
Push Square’s original PS5 review also noted major boss difficulty spikes and unclear signals about an opponent’s strength. But it did not call the whole game brutally difficult: its criticism was that routine enemies could be easy while bosses suddenly demanded much more. The distinction is useful if you are deciding whether the game’s challenge sounds appealing: the cited criticism focuses on uneven signposting and demanding bosses, not a uniformly punishing fight from start to finish.

In a later re-review, Push Square reported that Pearl Abyss updates added difficulty settings, streamlined menus, refined tutorials, improved input responsiveness and visuals, and fixed some bugs that could block progress. The reviewer said the game had become much easier to sit down and play, while remaining vast and overwhelming. This describes the later updated state, not the original March 2026 review build; it does not establish that every earlier performance concern was resolved.

For a purchase decision, keep the evidence in its proper frame: the leak described one RTX 5080 at 1440p, PC Gamer described one RTX 3070 review PC, and the March 2026 PS5 review reported different results on base PS5 and PS5 Pro. Difficulty reports likewise depend on whether they concern bosses, the game overall, or the later updated version.
