That was a third-party estimate—not a confirmed Pearl Abyss sales total—and it covered Steam only, not console sales or the game’s later sales.
What the close-to-400,000 figure means
Alinea Analytics head of market analysis Rhys Elliott wrote on March 17, 2026, that the game was “approaching 400K pre-launch copies sold on Steam.” Insider Gaming reported the more precise estimate as 363,000 copies as of March 16. The figures describe the same pre-release snapshot, not two separate totals. Alinea Analytics’ March 17 report and Insider Gaming’s March 18 report attribute the estimate to Alinea.
- Platform: Steam only; the figure does not include console sales.
- Timing: Alinea’s estimate was for the days before the March 19, 2026 release.
- Confirmation: It was an analyst estimate. Insider Gaming reported that Pearl Abyss had not yet released its own cross-platform sales numbers at the time.
Revenue and wishlist estimates
Alinea also estimated more than $20 million in gross Steam revenue and approximately 2.2 million Steam wishlists. It put gross revenue at $20.3 million three days before release. These are Alinea’s estimates, not audited net receipts or figures reported by Pearl Abyss. Gross revenue should not be read as the amount the publisher received after platform fees, taxes, refunds, discounts, or other deductions.
Alinea compared its three-days-before-release revenue estimate with its estimates for other games at the same point in their respective release cycles: $5.2 million for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and $2.4 million for Expedition 33. That comparison is limited to the stated estimated gross revenue at that pre-launch point; it does not establish how the games ultimately sold. Alinea’s report also said Pearl Abyss had announced three million wishlists overall, while the approximately 2.2 million Steam figure was Alinea’s estimate.

How to read the estimate now
The number answers a narrow historical question: how many Steam copies Alinea estimated had sold before launch. It should not be presented as the game’s current sales, its total across platforms, or an official company result. Launch-day and post-launch sales require later figures on the same platform and a clearly stated date; the March estimate cannot supply them.
The game has since launched. Steam currently lists it as Crimson Desert Enhanced, developed and published by Pearl Abyss, with a release date of March 19, 2026. The storefront now includes paid editions and DLC, so those current listing details are distinct from the pre-launch sales snapshot. View the current Steam listing.

In a March 12 appearance on the Dropped Frames podcast, Pearl Abyss marketing director Will Powers said, as quoted in Alinea’s report: “there is not a cosmetic cash shop” and described the game as a premium purchase rather than a transaction built around microtransactions. This is a statement about the game at launch; it does not establish later monetization or DLC policy. Alinea’s report attributes the quote to Powers.
