Those features make it a clear attempt to preserve the original’s period character while smoothing its presentation—but the available evidence does not establish whether the controls, camera, or visuals succeed in practice. This is a review of what the remaster and its Platinum Edition offer, not a firsthand verdict on how they play.
What is Croc: Legend of the Gobbos Remastered?
The remaster revisits Argonaut’s 1997 platforming adventure. Croc’s mission is to rescue the Gobbos from Baron Dante and the Dantinis, moving through the game’s worlds by running, jumping, climbing, swimming, and using his tail-spin attack. GOG’s October 24, 2024 announcement describes the original as a 1997 hit; Argonaut’s current product page presents the remaster as an authentic gameplay experience with updated presentation. Argonaut advertises 45 levels across five worlds, along with enemies and bosses. That is the publisher’s stated scope, rather than a count independently verified here. The core appeal is therefore straightforward: a recognizable late-1990s 3D platformer, offered with a set of modernizing features rather than a redesigned premise.
What has the remaster changed?
Argonaut lists enhanced HD graphics, modern control mechanics, an updated camera, and retro video modes. Founder Jez San described the intent in GOG’s 2024 announcement as combining “enhanced HD graphics, updated modern controls, and an authentic gameplay experience.” That is a statement of the developer’s aim, not independent evidence that the graphics look better or that the controls and camera feel more comfortable.

Those are the changes that matter most to the “polished PS1 classic” question. Better resolution or alternate video modes can make a period game easier to present on current displays, while controls and camera behavior can affect moment-to-moment play. But feature lists alone cannot establish responsiveness, image quality, visual fidelity, or performance. The supplied official and storefront information does not include firsthand testing of those aspects, so a confident verdict on how polished the game feels would go beyond the evidence.
What does the Platinum Edition add?
Argonaut describes the Platinum Edition as a significant free update. Its listed additions include Time Attack, 25+ new Crocipedia additions, selectable mixes of the Croc theme, bug fixes, quality-of-life improvements, and 16 new trophies. Features can vary by platform: Argonaut says the PlayStation versions have Platinum Trophies, while Switch has in-game achievements. The publisher says it aims to keep versions as similar as possible while acknowledging platform restrictions. Argonaut’s FAQ

- Croc's got the moves! Help Croc, the crusading crocodile, rescue his peace-loving Gobbo friends from the grasp of the evil magician Baron Dante. Guide him through a beautifully-rendered 3D world, on a free-roaming adventure against the evil Baron and his devilish assistants - the Dantinis!
The Crocipedia additions are supplemental material; the official page does not specify the content of every addition. Likewise, the inclusion of fixes and quality-of-life changes is not, by itself, a measure of how many issues were addressed or how much the play experience changed. Argonaut’s product page and FAQ provide the feature descriptions.
How do the editions and updates differ?
| Format or platform | What is established | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| GOG | GOG’s announcement and Argonaut’s FAQ say the remaster purchase includes Croc Classic, the original PC version. GOG Pressroom · Argonaut FAQ | This bundle claim is specific to GOG; it should not be assumed for console editions. |
| Steam / Windows | Steam lists October 17, 2025 as the Windows version’s release date. Argonaut says Platinum Edition updates automatically on platforms other than PlayStation for existing owners. Steam · Argonaut FAQ | Check the live listing for current price, system requirements, and update status. |
| PlayStation 4 / PlayStation 5 | The US PlayStation Store listing covers PS4 and PS5 and gives October 16, 2025 as the release date for that listing. Existing PS4/PS5 owners must download the Platinum Edition version from PlayStation Store; Argonaut says it is free for those who previously purchased the game on those platforms. PlayStation Store · Argonaut FAQ | Follow the FAQ’s separate download instruction rather than assuming the upgrade installs automatically. |
| Nintendo Switch / Xbox | Argonaut lists the Platinum Edition as available on Switch and Xbox and says existing owners on platforms other than PlayStation receive the update automatically. Argonaut FAQ | Check the relevant live storefront for current availability and platform-specific features. |
| Physical PS5 / Switch | Argonaut lists physical Platinum Editions for PS5 and Nintendo Switch, names Rock It Games as the production and distribution partner, and directs fulfillment questions to that partner. Argonaut Games · Argonaut FAQ | Stock, ordering status, price, and fulfillment details are subject to change; verify them with the retailer or partner. |
The PlayStation Store and Steam dates above belong to their respective listings; they should not be treated as a single universal release date. The available information also does not establish comparative price, performance, image quality, portability, or which platform offers the best value.

Does the remaster earn the “polished PS1 classic” label?
It is accurate to say the remaster is designed to pair Croc’s original rescue-platforming concept with updated graphics, controls, camera, and retro display options. It is also accurate to say the Platinum Edition adds modes and supplemental content, with some platform-specific differences. Whether that amounts to a genuinely polished experience depends on how the camera, controls, visuals, and performance hold up during play—questions the publisher feature descriptions and storefront listings do not answer.
For a purchase decision, the strongest documented reasons to consider it are interest in revisiting the 1997 game, the advertised 45-level scope, and the Platinum additions. A reader deciding whether the remaster feels good to play should consult a clearly attributed hands-on review or try it on the intended platform. Current prices, ratings, and physical stock should be checked directly on live storefronts.
