There is no verified, universally best loot route through Cryo Archive. The map connects several wings to a central hub, while Security Clearance, vault-specific requirements, hostile crews and a short extraction window shape what a successful run looks like. Use the POI names below to orient yourself, check an interactive map for exact pins, and prioritize the clearance and supplies needed for your objective and exit over an unverified loot route.
How Cryo Archive is laid out
Mobalytics describes Cryo Archive as the first deck of the UESC Marathon: six connected wings organized around a central hub. Its named areas include Biostock, Cargo, Panopticon, Control, Index, Preservation, Revival and Steerage. Expect to move between wing areas and the hub rather than treat the map as a string of isolated loot rooms.
Control and central areas can draw fights, according to Mobalytics. That is useful tactical guidance, not proof that another wing is safe or that Control always has the best rewards. Your safest or most profitable path will depend on your clearance, objective, team, other players and the match state.
Use map pins to plan, not to promise loot
Shacknews points players to Shackmaps’ interactive Cryo Archive map. Its categories include player spawns, exfil stations, secret and final exfils, vaults and their requirements, scan stations, security-clearance monitors, hostiles, points of interest, strongboxes and named locations. Check the relevant markers before a run to orient yourself and plan around your objective. A pin identifies a mapped feature; it does not establish that loot will spawn there, that it will be valuable, or that the route is safe.

- CLASSIC GRAPHICS AND SOUNDS: Immerse yourself in nostalgia with classic graphics, music, and sounds that look just like the original Tetris arcade game!
- AUTHENTIC GAMEPLAY: Use the joystick and buttons to move and rotate the Tetriminos as they fall to complete lines and score points!
- FULL COLOR SCREEN: With a brighter, full color screen that makes it easy to see the blocks, you’ll be racking up points like a pro as you stack your Tetriminos!
- MARATHON MODE: Race to line up your Tetriminos in rows before they stack too high. Complete 10 lines to move to the next level. But watch out - the Tetriminos drop faster the longer you play!
- SHARE AND COLLECT: Arcade Classics are a must-have retro toy for collectors or for anyone looking to share this classic toy with the next generation!
Where are the best loot locations?
The available guides do not establish loot rates, guaranteed contents at particular pins or a reliable ranking of Cryo Archive POIs. So there is no evidence-based “best loot” location that applies to every run. Instead, define best by what your crew needs and can reach: a vault objective, a strongbox, a clearance monitor, batteries or coolant, or a viable path toward extraction.
- For a vault run: Find the intended vault and check the requirements on your Marathon Key before committing. Power and Coolant requirements differ by key.
- For progression: Prioritize security tags and terminals early enough to reach the clearance level your objective requires.
- For survival: Avoid spending time on optional loot if it leaves you without the clearance, distance or time needed to extract.
- For a route decision: Weigh the clearance gate, travel and exposure between wings and Control, likely PvP and UESC pressure, whether the path advances your objective, and how much time and distance remain to an exfil.
These are planning criteria, not a proven route ranking. Mobalytics advises choosing fights carefully because hostile crews, UESC enemies and the extraction timer can all affect a run.

What do you need to enter Cryo Archive?
Mobalytics’ Cryo Archive guide, last updated June 2, 2026, lists a Runner Level of 25, all factions unlocked and a minimum loadout value of 5,000 credits as entry requirements. Those are third-party guide figures, not a guarantee of the current gate: check the in-game entry screen, since Marathon has continued receiving updates.
How Security Clearance works
Security Clearance is a progression gate, not just a map convenience. Mobalytics says a security tag adds one clearance point and hacking a security terminal adds three. Collect tags and use terminals early enough to reach the level your objective requires; do not assume optional loot is worth delaying a needed gate.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches| Reported clearance level | Reported access or effect | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Scanners reveal exfil stations and batteries. | Marathon Guide’s Cryo Archive guide; recheck current in-game behavior. |
| Level 2 | Opens doors leading to Control. | Mobalytics and Marathon Guide describe Level 2 access to Control doors. |
| Level 3 | Required for strongbox rooms and exfil, according to Mobalytics; unlocks Armory access, according to Marathon Guide. | These are guide-reported effects; confirm the specific door or station requirement in-game. |
| Level 4 | Required by certain vaults. | Marathon Guide; requirements can depend on the vault. |
| Level 5 | Unlocks contraband at the bottom of Panopticon and additional containers in Vault 7. | Marathon Guide; recheck current in-game behavior. |
These thresholds come from third-party guides and should not be treated as patch-proof. The access you need depends on your route: verify the displayed requirement at the relevant door, vault or station rather than assuming every room follows the same rule.
How to open Cryo Archive vaults
Marathon Guide says a vault requires a Marathon Key and that each key lists its own Power and Coolant requirements. Read the key you have; do not assume one vault’s requirements apply to another.

- Locate the vault you intend to open and check its requirements against your key.
- Collect the required power supply and coolant items for that key. The guides identify batteries as power items and empty Cryo Coolant containers as items to refill.
- Use a Cryo Coolant terminal to fill an empty container. Mobalytics describes refill stations; Marathon Guide places a terminal on the lowest level of Control.
- Return to the intended vault and use the key and required items as indicated in-game.
Use an interactive map to look up exact pins for vaults and related features, then confirm the route and requirements in the current game. Map markers and general guide descriptions do not replace the requirements displayed for your key.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to reach Control
Mobalytics and Marathon Guide report that Security Clearance Level 2 opens doors to Control. Since Control is part of the central hub and can attract fights, reaching the gate is only part of the plan: gather clearance on the way, consider whether your objective requires Control, and account for the exposure and return or extraction route before entering.
How standard extraction works
The cited Mobalytics and Marathon Guide walkthroughs describe standard extraction as a two-stage process: reach Security Clearance Level 3, activate an Exfil Station, then travel to the Guarded Exfil that appears on the map. Mobalytics says the destination is not directly on top of the station. The guides report a 3-minute-30-second window after activation and say only one exfil can be active at a time. These are volatile, third-party guide details; check the station and current in-game rules rather than relying on an old timer or assumption.
- Build clearance to the level required by the station; the guides report Level 3 for exfil.
- Find and activate an Exfil Station, using a current map for its pin.
- Immediately check the map for the Guarded Exfil destination and travel there; do not stop at the station expecting extraction to happen at that same point.
- Allow time for the distance, encounters and any route changes, and use the current in-game timer and prompts to confirm the extraction window.
Do not build a plan around final exfil
Mobalytics describes a final exfil that appears when the match clock reaches zero, lasts 60 seconds and is not marked on the map. The guide’s author discourages relying on it. Because this detail may have changed in later patches, treat it as an unconfirmed fallback and verify it in the current match rather than using it as your primary exit plan.
Vault Breaker and patch changes
Bungie’s July 21, 2026 Update 1.1.5 announced Vault Breaker, a PvE mode in which a crew, duo or solo player takes on progressively challenging Cryo Archive vaults. If you want a PvE-focused way to engage with vaults, check whether Vault Breaker is currently available and review its in-game rules; its availability and mechanics may have changed since that announcement.
Bungie’s update archive shows patches continuing through September 15, 2026. That makes older guide details—including access thresholds, extraction timing and route mechanics—worth checking against the latest official update and the game before you commit to a run.
