1. Record what happens when it crashes
Note whether the game freezes, closes to the home screen, or prevents launch. Record any error code and the action immediately before the crash, such as loading a save or entering a particular area. Also note whether the same problem occurs in other games. This information can help support identify whether the issue is limited to one title.
2. Confirm the game finished installing
Highlight Cult of the Lamb on the PS5 home screen, press the Options button, then select Information and check Download Status. If a download or installation is still in progress, let it finish before launching the game again.

3. Check for a game update
Highlight the game, press Options, and choose Check for Update. Install any available update, then try the game again. PlayStation includes installation and game-update checks in its general freeze and crash troubleshooting guidance.
4. Update PS5 system software
Check the PS5’s system software settings for an available update and install it. The PlayStation Store listing notes that the console may need the latest system software to play Cult of the Lamb. PlayStation also recommends checking system software when troubleshooting freezes or crashes.

5. Restart the PS5
Restart the console from the power menu, rather than immediately repeating the same launch attempt after a freeze. Once the PS5 has restarted, open the game and see whether the problem recurs. 6. Move the game to console storage, or restore licenses if relevant
If Cult of the Lamb is installed on USB extended storage, move it to the PS5’s internal console storage and test again. PlayStation recommends this when troubleshooting a game installed on USB extended storage. If the issue seems related to accessing or recognizing the game, you can also try restoring licenses through the PS5’s license settings; it is a general troubleshooting option, not a guaranteed crash fix. 7. Test whether the existing save is involved
PlayStation’s crash guidance suggests trying the game from the beginning without an existing save to check whether save corruption may be involved. Treat this as a diagnostic test, not a reason to delete your progress: do not overwrite, discard, or remove your existing save as an early troubleshooting step. If you cannot test without risking the save, skip this step and contact support for advice.
8. Delete and reinstall the game
If the earlier checks do not help, delete the game application and reinstall it, then allow installation and any updates to finish before launching. PlayStation recommends reinstalling as a general troubleshooting step. Reinstalling the application is distinct from deleting saved data; take care to select the game application, not your save.

9. Rebuild the database in Safe Mode
If the crash continues, use PS5 Safe Mode and select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database > Rebuild Database. Follow PlayStation’s instructions for entering Safe Mode and completing the operation. This is a general console troubleshooting procedure, not a verified Cult of the Lamb-specific remedy. Sony also lists rebuilding the database for PS5 error code CE-109573-5, a launch error; that guidance applies to that code and does not mean it is the cause of your crash: PS5 error code CE-109573-5 support.

If only Cult of the Lamb crashes while other games work, PlayStation directs players to contact the game’s publisher. The PlayStation Store lists Devolver Digital as the publisher. If multiple games crash, use PlayStation’s support and repair guidance instead. A console reset may affect stored data, so treat it as a last resort and back up important data first; PlayStation advises backing up before resetting the console.
