CD PROJEKT RED introduced AutoDrive in Update 2.3 in July 2025, then documented changes to destination driving and free-roam behavior in Patch 2.31 in September.
What AutoDrive does in Cyberpunk 2077
AutoDrive lets an owned vehicle travel to a job objective or a marker on the map. With no destination set, it can take a free-roam ride around Night City. CD PROJEKT RED described the feature in its Update 2.3 patch notes, published July 16, 2025.
To activate it, get into a vehicle while on a road, then hold G on PC or press and hold the left stick on consoles. AutoDrive is disabled if combat begins or the vehicle is heavily damaged. The Update 2.3 announcement also introduced Delamain cab rides: summon a cab, pick a destination, and pay an in-game fee.
What changed in Patch 2.31
CD PROJEKT RED’s September 11, 2025 Patch 2.31 notes describe adjustments to both AutoDrive modes:

- Destination driving: the notes say the vehicle now “drives smoothly, overtakes blocking vehicles, and no longer stops at traffic lights.”
- Free roam: the mode was updated to follow traffic rules and travel around the city more reliably.
The quoted wording is translated from the official French-language patch-notes page. These are the developer’s stated changes, not evidence that every prior problem was fixed or that players universally prefer the revised behavior.
Why players joke that AutoDrive is worse at driving
Community posts include complaints that AutoDrive “crashes WAY more,” “drives worse,” or hit a car ahead. Those posts illustrate the kind of frustration behind the joke, but they are individual reports. Other players describe different experiences, and anecdotes cannot establish how common crashes are or whether AutoDrive is objectively worse than manual driving.

No named statistic in the cited material measures AutoDrive’s collision rate, player satisfaction, or comparative driving quality. Nor is there an attributable statement from a named person or official body judging the feature’s quality. The defensible takeaway is narrower: complaints surfaced, and the developer later documented changes to how both modes drive.
