The short answer
The “launching this week” claim is outdated. CD PROJEKT RED originally announced the Mac release on October 30, 2024, targeting early 2025, before confirming its actual July 17, 2025 release date. The original announcement and the launch confirmation establish that this is an existing release, not an imminent August 2026 launch.

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition requires an Apple-silicon Mac. Intel Macs are not included in CDPR’s official Mac requirements.

“M1 supported” does not mean that every M1 Mac offers the same experience. Memory capacity, cooling, display resolution, and sustained power all matter. An M1 MacBook Air and an M1 MacBook Pro may share a chip but behave differently during a long, demanding session because of their thermal designs.
CDPR’s minimum target is 30 fps, not 60 fps. The table also describes target configurations rather than guaranteeing a locked frame rate in every scene, especially in dense areas or with advanced lighting enabled.
What is “For This Mac”?
The game includes a “For This Mac” graphics preset. It automatically selects graphics settings and resolution intended to balance image quality and performance for the individual Mac. It is the best place to start if you do not want to tune every option manually.

- Lower the resolution or use a lower quality preset.
- Disable ray tracing or path tracing.
- Reduce crowd density and other CPU-heavy settings.
- Close demanding background applications.
- Test performance during sustained play, not only in the opening sequence.
Mac-specific features
CDPR highlights several features in the Mac release:
- Ray tracing
- Frame generation
- HDR tuned for Apple XDR displays
- Spatial Audio with head tracking for compatible AirPods
- Native Apple-silicon and Metal optimization
Later Apple and CDPR technical material discusses Metal shader technologies, MetalFX frame interpolation and denoising, and path tracing on higher-end Apple chips. These features are not identical across every supported Mac. Availability and quality can depend on the chip, display, macOS version, and connected audio hardware. Spatial Audio also requires compatible AirPods and suitable software settings.
Ray tracing and path tracing should therefore be treated as higher-end options, not universal settings that every M1 Mac can run at the same quality. Likewise, HDR requires a compatible display, and head-tracked Spatial Audio is an optional audio feature rather than a requirement for playing the game.

CDPR’s Mac support hub includes cross-progression guidance, and Apple’s Mac-port presentation describes starting on one platform and continuing on Mac or vice versa. This is separate from cross-buy:
- Cross-progression: allows supported saves or progression to continue between platforms or installations.
- Cross-buy: determines whether you receive another platform version without paying again.
- Cross-platform multiplayer: is not relevant here because Cyberpunk 2077 is a single-player RPG.
Account linking, supported versions, regional rules, and the exact activation flow can change. Follow CDPR’s current Mac support instructions rather than assuming that every save from every platform will transfer automatically.
Troubleshooting common Mac problems
The game will not install
- Confirm that the Mac uses Apple silicon.
- Check that macOS 15.5 or later is installed.
- Free enough space for the relevant storefront’s requirement: 92 GB for Steam, GOG, or Epic, or 159 GB for the Mac App Store.

The game crashes or fails to launch
- Install the latest Mac patch listed by the relevant storefront or CDPR.
- Verify the game files using the storefront’s built-in file-verification feature.
- Confirm that the operating system remains supported.
- Review CDPR’s current launch, crash, and performance guidance in the Mac technical-support hub.
Storefront-specific menu labels can change, so use the current help interface for Steam, GOG, or Epic rather than relying on an old set of instructions.

Existing Steam, GOG, and Epic owners should first check whether the Mac version is already available in their library.
Be cautious if you have the minimum M1/16 GB configuration and expect high-resolution ray tracing or path tracing. You should also reconsider if you use an Intel Mac, have limited free storage, or expect console-style performance at every graphics setting.
