The RTX 4070 Super is the faster gaming GPU overall. It is the better choice for native rendering, demanding 1440p gaming, ray tracing, and entry-level 4K. The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is newer, uses less power, offers more VRAM, and supports Blackwell-era features such as DLSS Multi Frame Generation—but those features do not make it a consistent replacement for the 4070 Super’s higher rendering performance.

Price is the deciding factor. Buy the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB when it is substantially cheaper or when lower power, compact dimensions, 16GB of VRAM, and newer Nvidia features matter most. Buy the RTX 4070 Super when it costs only modestly more and you want the highest real frame rates. Treat the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB as a separate, more compromised product.

Performance: the RTX 4070 Super is faster

The RTX 4070 Super is a higher-class GPU, and that matters more than the 5060 Ti’s newer generation. Its larger shader count, wider memory bus, and greater bandwidth generally give it higher native frame rates in conventional games. Aggregate benchmark data such as Tom’s Hardware’s GPU hierarchy places the 4070 Super ahead overall.

  • A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis

The exact lead varies with the game, resolution, CPU, graphics settings, drivers, and whether upscaling or frame generation is enabled. There is no honest universal percentage that applies to every title. The important conclusion is simpler: the RTX 5060 Ti should not be presented as a performance replacement for the RTX 4070 Super.

Rasterized gaming

For games rendered without ray tracing, the 4070 Super is normally the clear winner. Its additional CUDA cores and stronger memory subsystem provide more headroom at higher settings and resolutions. This advantage is most visible when the game is GPU-limited at 1440p or 4K.

The 5060 Ti can still deliver excellent 1080p performance and respectable 1440p results, particularly with DLSS Super Resolution. But DLSS can improve the experience; it does not change the underlying ranking in ordinary native rendering.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ray tracing

The RTX 5060 Ti has fourth-generation RT cores, while the RTX 4070 Super uses third-generation RT cores. That gives the newer card access to improved RT hardware and newer Blackwell features, but it does not guarantee higher raw ray-tracing performance. The 4070 Super has far more overall GPU resources and is likely to render demanding ray-traced scenes faster in many games.

Some titles may narrow the gap or favor the 5060 Ti in particular RT workloads. Independent testing, including the TechSpot RTX 5060 Ti 16GB review, should be read as game-specific evidence rather than proof of a universal result.

1080p

Both cards are suitable for high-refresh-rate 1080p gaming. At this resolution, a fast CPU can become the limiting factor, reducing the visible difference between them.

  • Choose the 5060 Ti for a new, lower-cost 1080p system when its price is meaningfully lower.
  • Choose the 4070 Super for very high refresh rates, heavy ray tracing, or additional performance headroom.
  • Avoid assuming the 8GB model is equivalent to the 16GB model; demanding games may require texture compromises sooner on the smaller card.

Good testing should report 1% lows and frame-time consistency as well as average FPS. Average FPS alone can hide stutter caused by texture streaming, shader compilation, or memory pressure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

1440p

1440p is the most useful resolution for this comparison. The RTX 4070 Super is the stronger native 1440p card and is better suited to demanding AAA games, high settings, and ray tracing.

The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB becomes attractive when it is considerably cheaper and the buyer is comfortable using DLSS or reducing selected settings. Its extra VRAM can help with high-resolution textures and some demanding titles, but 16GB does not give the 5060 Ti the 4070 Super’s shader throughput.

Do not combine FPS figures from unrelated reviews as though they were directly comparable. CPU, game selection, drivers, settings, and test methodology can move results substantially. Use a consistent test suite such as Tom’s Hardware’s RTX 5060 Ti review and its current GPU hierarchy for the main ranking.

4K

Neither card is an uncompromised 4K Ultra solution for every modern game. The RTX 4070 Super is clearly the better option of the two because it has substantially more rendering performance, but demanding games will still often require DLSS, reduced settings, or both.

The 5060 Ti 16GB may avoid some VRAM-related problems at 4K, but capacity cannot compensate for lower shader and memory-subsystem performance. Any 4K comparison must clearly state whether results use native rendering, DLSS Quality, ray tracing, Frame Generation, or Multi Frame Generation.

DLSS 4, Frame Generation, and the feature gap

The RTX 5060 Ti wins the feature comparison. Its Blackwell hardware supports newer DLSS features, including Multi Frame Generation in supported games. The RTX 4070 Super supports DLSS Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction, and conventional Frame Generation, but it does not have the same Blackwell hardware feature set for Multi Frame Generation. Nvidia lists the relevant feature support on its RTX 5060 family and RTX 4070 family pages.

What the technologies do

  • DLSS Super Resolution renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the image using AI.
  • Ray Reconstruction uses AI to improve the reconstruction of ray-traced lighting and reflections.
  • Frame Generation creates an additional generated frame between traditionally rendered frames.
  • Multi Frame Generation can create multiple generated frames, raising the displayed frame-rate counter more aggressively in supported games.

Generated frames are not the same as natively rendered frames. They require a sufficiently high base frame rate, and the perceived responsiveness depends on the game, Nvidia Reflex implementation, base FPS, display refresh rate, and settings. A 5060 Ti reporting a higher FPS number with Multi Frame Generation is not necessarily more responsive than a 4070 Super rendering more frames natively.

Support is also game-dependent and can change through patches and driver updates. The correct verdict is therefore: the 5060 Ti has the newer feature set, while the 4070 Super remains the stronger rendering GPU.

VRAM: 8GB, 12GB, and 16GB are not interchangeable

RTX 5060 Ti 16GB vs RTX 4070 Super 12GB

The 5060 Ti 16GB has a 4GB capacity advantage. That can matter for high-resolution texture packs, modded games, some ray-traced or path-traced titles, and creator, AI, or GPU-compute workloads that need more assets resident at once.

VRAM capacity and GPU speed are separate variables:

  • More VRAM can prevent capacity-related stutter or force fewer texture-setting compromises.
  • More VRAM does not increase the 5060 Ti’s shader throughput.
  • The 4070 Super’s 12GB can remain sufficient for 1080p and 1440p in many games.
  • The 5060 Ti 16GB offers more headroom, but no GPU can be promised to remain suitable for a fixed number of years.

When neither card exceeds its available VRAM, the 4070 Super can still provide higher FPS and smoother gameplay despite having less memory.

Why the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB deserves caution

The 8GB RTX 5060 Ti is not merely a cheaper version with no meaningful trade-off. It can remain playable, especially at 1080p, but newer games may require lower textures or other settings sooner than on the 16GB model. The risk increases with high resolutions, ray tracing, extensive mods, and texture-heavy games.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Tom’s Hardware has also documented cases in which the 8GB model loses performance under certain PCIe and memory conditions. Read its PCIe and 8GB analysis before pairing the card with an older or bandwidth-constrained platform.

  • OC mode: 2632 MHz (OC mode)/ 2602 MHz (Default mode)
  • Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
  • SFF-Ready Enthusiast GeForce Card
  • Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure

Recommendation: buy the 8GB model only at a substantial discount and primarily for budget 1080p gaming. If the price gap to the 16GB model is modest, the 16GB card is the more sensible long-term choice.

Power, cooling, and PSU requirements

The RTX 5060 Ti has an approximately 180W reference board-power rating, compared with approximately 220W for the RTX 4070 Super. One overclocked 16GB board-partner 5060 Ti measured around 149W average board power in TechSpot’s testing, but actual consumption varies by model and workload. See the Tom’s Hardware power testing for additional context.

Choose the 5060 Ti when system efficiency matters

  • It is easier to cool in a compact case.
  • It generally places less demand on the power supply.
  • It may allow a quieter or less expensive cooling solution.
  • Its lower board power can reduce consumption, although total electricity use depends on the workload, frame-rate cap, and the rest of the system.

What to check before buying a 4070 Super

The 4070 Super produces more heat and may require greater PSU headroom. Power connectors vary by board-partner design: some cards use a 12VHPWR or 12V-2×6-style connector, while others use a different arrangement or an adapter. Check the exact manufacturer model rather than relying on the GPU name alone.

There is no universal PSU wattage that fits every PC. Follow the specific card manufacturer’s recommendation and account for the CPU, transient power behavior, overclocking, storage, fans, and the number of connected drives.

Streaming, content creation, and AI

Gaming benchmarks do not automatically predict creator or compute performance. The RTX 5060 Ti has newer GDDR7 memory, newer-generation media hardware, newer Tensor and RT cores, Blackwell-era AI support, and—on the larger model—16GB of VRAM. Those characteristics can matter in video encoding, neural-rendering features, local AI models, and applications that exceed 12GB.

The RTX 4070 Super remains attractive for workloads that benefit primarily from raw CUDA throughput. Blender, Adobe applications, Stable Diffusion, local AI tools, and video encoders can behave differently, so verify results for the exact application, renderer, model, codec, and project size before buying.

Creator verdict: choose the 5060 Ti 16GB when memory capacity and newer media or AI features are decisive; choose the 4070 Super when the workload is dominated by conventional CUDA or rendering throughput.

Price and value: use the price gap, not the launch MSRP

The RTX 5060 Ti launched at $379 for 8GB and $429 for 16GB. The RTX 4070 Super launched at $599. Those launch prices explain the original positioning, but they do not determine what either card is worth in September 2026.

The supplied market snapshot from August 16, 2026 found RTX 5060 Ti 16GB listings around $579.99 on Amazon, $699.67 on Newegg, and $799.99 at Best Buy. These are retailer listings, not stable market prices, and the market has been unusually volatile. PC Gamer reported the snapshot in its GPU price watch, while Tom’s Hardware documented significant 2026 RTX 50-series price increases in its price report.

Because prices vary by country, retailer, warranty, and condition, use these bands as a decision framework rather than a permanent quote:

5060 Ti 16GB at or near $429–$500 Compelling efficiency and VRAM option.
5060 Ti 16GB around $500–$600 Compare directly with used or discounted 4070 Super cards and higher-tier alternatives.
5060 Ti 16GB above $600 Difficult to defend unless availability, warranty, compact-system needs, or Blackwell features are decisive.
4070 Super near $500–$550 Usually the better performance purchase, provided condition and warranty are acceptable.
4070 Super near or above $600 Check newer Nvidia models and competing AMD cards before buying.

A practical rule is to choose the RTX 4070 Super when it costs no more than roughly 10–15% above a comparable RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and native performance matters. If the 5060 Ti is materially cheaper, its efficiency and 16GB capacity can justify the compromise.

New RTX 5060 Ti or used RTX 4070 Super?

A used 4070 Super can be an excellent performance purchase, but compare more than the sticker price. Ask for the exact model, purchase date, original receipt, remaining warranty, and proof that the card works under load. Confirm the marketplace’s return window before paying.

  • Warranty may be expired or non-transferable.
  • Mining or heavy-use history may be unknown.
  • Fans, thermal pads, and power connectors may be worn.
  • Board-partner cards differ in length, thickness, cooler design, and connector placement.
  • A new 5060 Ti provides clearer warranty status and lower power requirements.

If a used 4070 Super is only modestly more expensive than a new 5060 Ti 16GB and its condition is verifiable, it is usually the faster gaming choice. If the seller cannot provide a return path or reliable condition information, paying more for a new card may be worth it.

Which GPU should you buy?

Buy the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB if…

  • You are building a new 1080p or moderate 1440p gaming PC.
  • It is substantially cheaper than a 4070 Super.
  • You need 16GB of VRAM for textures, mods, creator work, or local AI workloads.
  • You want Blackwell-era DLSS features, including Multi Frame Generation in supported games.
  • You are building a compact system or have limited cooling and PSU headroom.
  • You value a new card with a straightforward warranty over used upper-tier hardware.

Buy the RTX 4070 Super if…

  • You want the highest native FPS between these two cards.
  • You mainly play demanding AAA games at 1440p.
  • You want stronger conventional ray-tracing performance in many titles.
  • You are targeting entry-level 4K and accept using DLSS or reduced settings when necessary.
  • You use CUDA-heavy software that benefits more from throughput than from 16GB capacity.
  • A used or remaining-stock model is no more than roughly 10–15% more expensive than the 5060 Ti 16GB.

Be cautious with the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB if…

You want high-settings 1440p gaming, heavy ray tracing, extensive mods, or the fewest future texture compromises. It is not unusable, but its 8GB capacity is the principal long-term weakness. Buy it when the discount is substantial and your target games and resolution fit its limits.

Neither is ideal if…

The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is priced above $600, the 4070 Super is unavailable or overpriced, or you need a large performance jump for 4K. In that situation, check current pricing for the RTX 5070 or its current Nvidia price equivalent, the 16GB Radeon RX 9060 XT, the Radeon RX 9070, and used RTX 4070 Ti Super cards. Nvidia’s CUDA, DLSS, encoding, AI, and ray-tracing advantages may still justify choosing Nvidia, while AMD may offer better value when Nvidia cards are inflated. Verify prices and availability in your country immediately before purchase.

How to compare listings correctly

  1. Confirm whether the 5060 Ti is the 8GB or 16GB model.
  2. Separate new, open-box, refurbished, and used prices.
  3. Record the retailer, country, date, return period, and warranty status.
  4. Compare native or DLSS Super Resolution performance separately from Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation.
  5. Check 1% lows and frame times, not only average FPS.
  6. Confirm card length, thickness, power connectors, and the manufacturer’s PSU recommendation.
  7. For an older PC, verify the PCIe platform and CPU are not introducing a bottleneck.
