Yes—Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is a genuine native Mac game. CD PROJEKT launched it for Apple-silicon Macs on July 17, 2025. It includes the base game and Phantom Liberty, and is available through the Mac App Store, Steam, GOG.com, and Epic Games Store.
The minimum is an Apple M1 Mac with 16GB of memory running macOS 15.5 or later. CD PROJEKT recommends an M3 Pro with 18GB of memory for its approximately 60fps target at around 1080p. The Mac release’s key automatic graphics feature is called “For this Mac”—not a universal High preset.

What launched on Mac?
This is a native Apple-silicon release of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, rather than the Windows version running through a compatibility layer or a cloud-streaming service. The package contains the complete base game and the Phantom Liberty expansion. CD PROJEKT says the Mac version is optimized for Apple-silicon Macs with at least 16GB of unified memory.
It is not available for Intel Macs. The Mac build is sold through the Mac App Store, Steam, GOG.com, and Epic Games Store.

Mac requirements and official targets
Check the chip, unified memory, operating system, and free storage before buying. The official requirements are:

These are official targets, not guarantees for every Mac bearing the same chip name. A base M1 with 16GB meets the minimum, but that does not mean it should deliver a high-refresh 1080p experience. The recommended M3 Pro tier is the more meaningful reference for smoother 1080p play.
Performance can vary substantially according to GPU-core count, laptop or desktop design, cooling, display resolution, and memory capacity. An actively cooled Mac Studio and a fanless MacBook Air with similarly named chips should not be assumed to perform identically. - Open Apple menu → About This Mac and note the processor and memory.
- Open System Settings → General → Software Update and confirm that macOS is 15.5 or later.
- Check available storage in System Settings → General → Storage.
“Can launch” and “runs comfortably” are different standards. Macs with 8GB of memory, Intel processors, or an operating system below macOS 15.5 do not meet the official requirements.
What “For this Mac” does
For this Mac is an automatic, device-specific graphics preset. It detects the Mac’s hardware and selects a combination of resolution and graphics settings intended to balance image quality and performance. Apple’s developer coverage describes the system as able to respond to display changes rather than assuming that every player is using the built-in screen.

Depending on the hardware, the preset can affect output resolution, upscaling quality, texture and lighting settings, and other GPU-intensive options. It is a sensible starting point because a 4K external display and a MacBook’s built-in panel place different demands on the GPU.
It is not a guarantee of a fixed frame rate. Busy outdoor areas, crowded combat, driving, high-resolution displays, heat, and background workloads can all change performance. The game also offers manual quick presets for players who want to prioritize image quality or speed.

Ray tracing is supported on M3 and newer chips with at least 16GB of memory. It is not available on every compatible Mac, including M1 systems.
To change the relevant setting:
- Launch the game.
- Open Settings.
- Select Graphics.
- Find Quick Preset.
- Choose an available ray-tracing preset instead of For this Mac, or configure ray tracing in the Ray Tracing section.
CD PROJEKT documents this path in its Mac ray-tracing support guide. Start with For this Mac, then test ray tracing in a demanding outdoor area. If frame pacing is poor, disable ray tracing before lowering every other setting. If the image is too soft, try a higher upscaling quality mode only if the Mac has enough performance headroom.
Apple technologies in the Mac version
The port uses Apple platform technologies including Metal shaders, MetalFX upscaling, dynamic resolution scaling, frame generation, HDR/EDR support, Spatial Audio, native controller support, iCloud saves, and macOS Game Mode integration. Those features involve trade-offs:
- Upscaling renders at a lower internal resolution and reconstructs the image, which can improve performance at the cost of sharpness or fine-detail stability.
- Dynamic resolution can change the internal rendering resolution to help maintain smoother output.
- Frame generation can make displayed motion look smoother, but generated frames are not equivalent to additional natively rendered frames and can introduce latency or visual artifacts.
- HDR/EDR requires a compatible display and suitable system configuration.
- Spatial Audio depends on the playback hardware and listening setup.
Feature availability can vary by chip, memory, display, operating-system version, and game patch.
How well does it run?
The official distinction is straightforward: M1 with 16GB is the minimum tier, while M3 Pro with 18GB is the recommended tier. The listed targets are approximately 30fps at 1440×900 or 1600×900 for the minimum configuration and approximately 60fps at 1800×1125 or 1920×1080 for the recommended configuration.
Independent testing gives useful context but should not be treated as a universal performance table. Tom’s Guide tested multiple M1–M4 Macs, while Tom’s Hardware reported results ranging roughly from 13fps to 105fps depending on the exact Mac, resolution, preset, and upscaling configuration.
Those numbers demonstrate why a single “Mac fps” claim is misleading. A meaningful result must identify the exact machine, GPU-core configuration, memory, output resolution, graphics preset, ray-tracing state, upscaling mode, and whether frame generation was enabled. Frame-generated output should not be presented as the same thing as native rendered performance.
Practical expectations by Mac category
- Base M1 or M2 with 16GB: Meets the official minimum. Begin with For this Mac and expect to make compromises on resolution or image quality rather than assuming 1080p at 60fps.
- M1 or M2 Pro/Max: More GPU resources can help, but exact results still depend on the model, cooling, and display.
- M3 Pro and above: This is the official recommended direction for roughly 60fps around 1080p. Ray tracing becomes an option on M3-and-newer systems with at least 16GB.
- M4 Pro/Max and desktop-class Macs: They may provide more headroom, but exact performance should still be judged by model-specific testing rather than chip branding alone.
- Intel Macs or 8GB Macs: They are outside the official requirements.
Which storefront should you choose?
The best storefront is usually the one where you already own the game. CD PROJEKT states that existing owners on Steam, GOG.com, or Epic Games Store receive access to the Mac version without paying again. That same-store benefit should not be confused with transferring ownership to the Mac App Store.

Mac App Store
The Mac App Store offers Apple billing and a native Apple purchase and installation flow. Its major practical disadvantage is storage: CD PROJEKT lists 159GB for this version, compared with 92GB for the Steam, GOG, and Epic downloads. The App Store listing also warns that approximately 15% additional temporary space may be needed during installation.
Do not interpret the larger App Store footprint as proof of better graphics; the listing attributes part of the difference to included voiceover data. This option makes most sense for readers who value Apple’s storefront integration and have ample free storage.
Steam
Steam is the obvious choice for existing Steam owners who want one PC/Mac library, Steam achievements, and Steam’s cloud features. It is also listed at 92GB by CD PROJEKT. Prices and discounts change, so check the live listing before purchasing. Steam’s product page combines Windows and Mac information, making the dedicated Mac requirements more useful than the first requirements block you see.
GOG.com
GOG is the natural choice for readers who prioritize DRM-free ownership or already use a GOG library, and CD PROJEKT lists its Mac download at 92GB. Confirm the current installer, launcher, cloud-save, and offline-installation behavior on the live GOG listing rather than assuming it is identical to the Windows release.

Epic is useful for existing Epic owners and players who already use that launcher. CD PROJEKT lists existing Epic ownership as eligible for Mac access without an additional purchase, and the Epic listing identifies macOS support. Promotional prices are temporary, so any discount shown in an older listing should not be treated as current.

Storage: 92GB is not always enough
The official figures are:
- Steam, GOG, and Epic: 92GB after download.
- Mac App Store: 159GB.
Installation may require more temporary space than the final game occupies. Keep substantially more free storage than the nominal requirement, especially if the Mac also holds macOS update files, other games, creative applications, and save backups. A reader with roughly 100GB free should not assume the App Store version will install successfully.
Troubleshooting common problems
The game will not install
- Confirm the Mac is Apple silicon, not Intel.
- Confirm at least 16GB of memory and macOS 15.5 or later.
- Free substantially more space than the listed download size.
- Verify that the purchase is tied to the intended Steam, GOG, Epic, or Apple account.
- Restart the Mac and storefront client, then retry.
- Use the current CD PROJEKT Mac support page for Mac-specific fixes rather than applying Windows instructions.
The game launches but runs poorly
- Reapply For this Mac.
- Disable ray tracing first.
- Test at a lower output resolution or use a more performance-oriented upscaling mode.
- Connect a laptop to power and test again.
- Use the built-in display to establish a baseline before troubleshooting an external high-resolution monitor.
- Repeat the test after the Mac has cooled, particularly on a fanless MacBook.
Test both indoor and outdoor scenes, including a busy area of Night City. The opening sequence is not a reliable substitute for a repeatable demanding scene.
Should you buy it for Mac?
Buy or use the Mac version if you have an Apple-silicon Mac with at least 16GB of memory, macOS 15.5 or later, enough storage, and reasonable expectations about resolution and frame rate. It is especially compelling if you already own the game on Steam, GOG, or Epic, because CD PROJEKT’s same-store access avoids a second purchase.
Be cautious if you have a base M1 with 16GB and expect high-refresh 1080p, if your Mac is fanless and you plan long sessions, or if you expect desktop-PC-level ray tracing. Do not buy a new Mac solely for this game unless you also have broader reasons to upgrade: the official minimum begins at M1/16GB, while the recommended tier begins at M3 Pro/18GB.
