SKlauncher appears reasonably safe when downloaded from the official SKmedix domain, but it is not risk-free. The biggest practical dangers are fake download sites, malicious or modified Minecraft mods, exposed Microsoft authentication tokens, and poorly secured offline-mode servers.
Use only the official project links, verify the downloaded file when a SHA-256 hash is provided, keep antivirus protection enabled, and remember that a legitimate launcher cannot make every mod, server, or third-party download safe.

What is SKlauncher?
SKlauncher is a third-party launcher for Minecraft: Java Edition. It is not Minecraft itself. The launcher can manage Java versions, separate game instances, mod loaders, mods, and modpacks. The project documents support for Windows, macOS, and Linux, with instances for Vanilla, Forge, Fabric, Quilt, and NeoForge. See the official SKlauncher documentation.

Which SKlauncher website is official?
This is the most important safety check:
- Stable project site: skmedix.pl
- 4.0 beta site: next.skmedix.pl
- Documentation: docs.skmedix.pl
- Source repositories: the project’s SKlauncher GitHub organization
SKlauncher’s documentation specifically warns that fake sites distribute malware disguised as the launcher. Do not rely on search-result ranking, advertisements, random video descriptions, Discord attachments, mirrors, or file-sharing pages.
A separate-looking site, sklauncher.pl, describes a forthcoming “SKlauncher by Goxy” with different branding and features. Do not assume it is the SKmedix project. Follow links from SKmedix’s documentation instead.
Is the official installer malware?
The available evidence gives the official builds several positive credibility signals:

- The security page links to VirusTotal reports for specific files.
- The Windows Setup installer has been open-sourced in the project’s installer repository.
- The project says it works with antivirus vendors to address false positives.
These are transparency and verification measures, not a permanent guarantee. The evidence is primarily first-party, and a VirusTotal result applies to a particular file—not every future update, mirror, bundled component, mod, or repackaged installer. VirusTotal is also not an independent security audit or certification.
The project’s own documentation says the launcher is not a virus, but that statement should be treated as the developer’s claim alongside the file-specific checks above, not as proof that every copy found online is safe.
What to do when antivirus warns about SKlauncher
An alert can indicate confirmed malware, a heuristic detection, a reputation warning for an uncommon installer, a potentially unwanted application, a modified file, or a genuine compromise. Do not automatically dismiss it—and do not automatically assume the official project is compromised.
- Stop the installation and keep the file quarantined.
- Confirm that you downloaded it from
skmedix.plor the documented beta domain. - Compare the file’s SHA-256 hash with the official listing. The file type and version must match exactly.
- Open the official VirusTotal link for that exact build, if one is provided.
- Update Microsoft Defender or your reputable antivirus product and run a scan.
- If suspicious activity remains, run a full scan and Microsoft Defender Offline. Microsoft’s guidance covers malware, potentially unwanted software, trusted downloads, and offline scanning here.
Never disable Defender permanently just because SKlauncher or a download page calls an alert a false positive.
How to download SKlauncher safely
- Start at the official downloads documentation or the SKmedix project site.
- Check the address bar carefully. The stable domain is
skmedix.pl; the documented 4.0 beta domain isnext.skmedix.pl. - Choose the correct operating-system package: Windows Setup
.exe, Linux.jar, or macOS.dmg. - On Windows, prefer the Setup installer. The documentation recommends it from version 3.2 onward and says it bundles Temurin Java.
- If you use the standalone
.jar, install a suitable Java version separately. - Check the published SHA-256 hash when available and review the linked VirusTotal report.
- Keep antivirus enabled during installation and first launch.
- Reject any installer that adds unrelated bundled software or requests unusual permissions.
Do not run a file with a different hash, even if its filename and icon look correct. A fake installer can imitate the legitimate launcher closely.
Is Microsoft login safe?
SKlauncher’s documented Microsoft sign-in process opens a browser-based authentication flow:
- Click Login with Microsoft in SKlauncher.
- Sign in on the browser’s genuine Microsoft page.
- Approve the ReLogin application when prompted.
- Return to SKlauncher after the browser redirects back.
- Confirm that the launcher shows the account as signed in.
You must own Minecraft: Java Edition and have signed into it at least once through the official Minecraft Launcher before using this flow. The project says that ReLogin handles the OAuth process and that SKlauncher does not store Microsoft-account data. Those are project statements, not independently audited guarantees.
Browser-based OAuth is preferable to typing a Microsoft password into an unknown launcher, but it does not remove trust. You are still trusting the launcher, its authentication helper, its update mechanism, and the computer on which they run.

- Check that the sign-in page is genuinely Microsoft-owned before entering credentials.
- Never type your Microsoft password into an SKlauncher pop-up or unofficial in-app form.
- Never share access tokens, refresh tokens, token-containing logs, screenshots, or copied URLs.
- If you believe a token was exposed, revoke suspicious application access, review account sign-in activity, and change the password from a known-clean device.
Is offline mode safer?
Offline mode is safer specifically in one respect: it does not authenticate a Microsoft account. SKlauncher lets users enter a username without Microsoft login, but offline accounts can connect only to servers configured with online-mode=false. They cannot join ordinary authenticated servers using online-mode=true. The documented control is Switch to offline mode, currently shown in the launcher’s bottom-left area.
That reduced account exposure comes with different risks:
- Your username is not proof of identity and may be impersonated.
- Offline servers may use server-side password plugins.
- The server operator controls those plugins and may be untrustworthy.
- A username may already be registered by another player.
- Offline-mode play may conflict with a server’s rules or expectations.
Never reuse a Microsoft password—or any important personal password—on an offline-mode server. Offline mode protects Microsoft credentials from that login flow; it does not make the launcher, Java, mods, server, or plugins trustworthy.
What data does SKlauncher collect?
According to the project’s documentation, an SKlauncher account may involve an email address, an Argon2id password hash, optional Discord ID, username, skin, cape, and profile settings. The documentation also mentions Google Analytics data and says that users who do not register an SKlauncher account still have Google Analytics data collected.

- Avoid creating an SKlauncher account unless it is necessary.
- Use a unique password if they do register.
- Never reuse their Microsoft password.
- Review the current privacy policy before signing up.
“No Microsoft-account data stored” does not mean “no data collected.” Malware risk, account security, and privacy are related but separate questions.
Are SKlauncher mods and modpacks safe?
No launcher can make every mod safe. Mods execute with the permissions available to the game process and may contain malicious code, compromised dependencies, credential stealers, or modified files. A modpack downloaded from an unofficial mirror can also differ from the creator’s original release.
SKlauncher’s 4.0 security materials describe a built-in scanner for known patterns associated with Fractureiser-family malware. That is a useful layer of protection, but it is not universal detection. A newly created, obfuscated, altered, or differently packaged threat may not match known patterns.
Use reputable mod distribution sources, check the author and project history, avoid random “FPS boost” downloads, and treat every mod as separate software. Scan suspicious files independently, and do not upload private logs or files containing tokens to public scanning services.

Stable 3.2 or beta 4.0?
As of the research date, August 18, 2026, the official documentation describes version 3.2 as the stable branch and version 4.0 as an open beta. The security page lists builds including 3.2.12 and 4.0.30, but a higher build number does not make 4.0 stable.
Choose the stable 3.2 branch if reliability and fewer unfinished features matter most. Consider 4.0 only if you specifically want its newer features and accept frequent updates or beta bugs. Check the project’s current documentation before downloading because release status can change.
SKlauncher versus the official Minecraft Launcher

The official Minecraft Launcher is the better fit for users who do not need SKlauncher’s third-party features or who are uncomfortable approving an OAuth helper application. Buying Minecraft also changes ownership and licensing circumstances; it does not automatically make a third-party launcher safe.
Advanced Java Edition users may also consider Prism Launcher for open-source, multi-instance management with legitimate authentication. Users focused primarily on ecosystem-based modpacks can look at the Modrinth App or CurseForge App. These alternatives are not interchangeable in every feature, particularly around offline accounts.
What if you already installed a suspicious copy?
- Disconnect the computer from the internet if you suspect active compromise.
- Uninstall the suspicious launcher and remove its downloaded mods and installers.
- Update Microsoft Defender and run a full scan.
- Run Microsoft Defender Offline if symptoms continue or malware is suspected.
- From a known-clean device, change important passwords, starting with your Microsoft account and email.
- Revoke suspicious Microsoft application authorizations.
- Review Microsoft account sign-in activity for unfamiliar sessions.
- Replace launcher and mod files with copies downloaded from verified official sources.
Who should avoid SKlauncher?
- Anyone whose download came from a mirror, advertisement, file-sharing site, or unofficial Discord attachment.
- Anyone whose file hash does not match the official listing.
- Anyone who cannot explain why an antivirus product is blocking the file.
- Anyone being offered a “cracked,” preconfigured, or modified build.
- Users who require an independently audited launcher or strict privacy guarantees.
- Users who simply want official support and do not need third-party launcher features.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: SKlauncher is probably safe for most users when downloaded from skmedix.pl, verified against the project’s hash and scan information, and used with current antivirus protection. Prefer the official Minecraft Launcher if minimizing third-party trust, maximizing official support, or avoiding beta software matters more than offline and third-party launcher features.
