How do the performance modes compare?
Digital Foundry’s 2025 comparison, as reported by Pure Xbox on August 1, 2025, describes a 30 fps quality mode and a 40 fps performance mode on Switch 2. Xbox Series S performance mode targets 60 fps. These are different targets, not equivalent modes.

In that analysis, Switch 2’s performance mode showed noticeable drops in heavier areas. Series S was reported to mostly hold its 60 fps target, with occasional drops. The comparison is an analysis of the versions at that time, not a publisher guarantee or a fresh test of later patches.

Which version has the sharper image?
The same comparison reported an average 73% resolution advantage for Series S over Switch 2 in performance mode. That figure is a scene-dependent benchmark result, not a universal measure of image quality: the report notes that Switch 2 often reaches its 1080p ceiling, and the gap varies by situation.

What does Switch 2 add beyond portability?
CD PROJEKT RED’s June 5, 2025 announcement identifies the Switch 2 release as Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, including the base game and Phantom Liberty. It is available as a physical 64 GB game card or a digital download through Nintendo eShop. Downloadable language packs can affect the final game size, so the card capacity does not establish that every region’s language content is included on the card.
The Switch 2 edition also supports motion controls, gyro aiming, mouse controls, and touchscreen functions. In a June 23, 2025 developer article, CD PROJEKT RED quoted Gameplay Technical Design Expert Filip Downar describing the team’s approach: “The philosophy was to do it but not force it.” These features give players more ways to interact with the game; they do not change the performance gap described above.

Which version should you choose?
- Choose Switch 2 if playing handheld is important, or you want its motion, gyro, mouse, or touchscreen options. You still get the base game and Phantom Liberty in Ultimate Edition.
- Choose Xbox Series S if your priority is a higher frame-rate target, stronger resolution in the cited performance-mode comparison, and better stability in demanding scenes.
The comparison reflects a 2025 analysis. Patch changes, build differences, display settings, and scene selection can affect results, so it should not be read as a measurement of every later version.
