The unexpected way back to Night City is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, a new standalone anime from CD PROJEKT RED and TRIGGER. It premieres exclusively on Netflix on October 20, 2026. As of today (October 8, 2026), that date is still upcoming. It is not a continuation of the first series’ cast story. It returns to the same city with a new group of characters.
When and where Edgerunners 2 premieres
CD PROJEKT RED revealed the premiere in a press release dated August 21, 2026, alongside a trailer. The release states that viewers can tune in to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 exclusively on Netflix on October 20. Netflix and CD PROJEKT RED both confirm the same date and platform.
The series is announced as ten episodes. The official announcements reviewed do not publish an episode release schedule beyond the October 20 premiere, so do not assume a weekly or binge pattern until Netflix confirms one.

CD PROJEKT RED describes the series as a raw story involving revenge, redemption, family, obsession, and legacy. The page sums it up this way: “Across this ten-episode standalone series, uncover a story of family, obsession, legacy — and how your lens reflects the stories of the people around you.”
How it relates to the first Edgerunners series
Edgerunners 2 shares the Night City setting and the wider Cyberpunk 2077 world with the first anime, but it is a standalone story with a fresh cast. Viewers who came for David, Lucy, and the original crew should not expect those characters to carry the plot. The official materials do not present the new series as a continuation of David and Lucy’s storyline, and no official statement reviewed links the two plots directly.
That makes the sequel an easy entry point for newcomers, but it also means the emotional payoff of the first show is not guaranteed to return. Treat it as a new chapter in the same world rather than a second season.

The game is the most direct way to explore the city that the anime uses. It is a separate product and does not set up the anime’s plot in any required way.

KADOKAWA describes this official prequel comic as focusing on Rebecca and Pilar before they meet David and the others. Because the English edition’s scheduled date has already passed, check a retailer or publisher listing in your region to confirm current availability and format before buying.
