Is Edgerunners season 2 a sequel to David’s story?
No. Season 2 follows new characters rather than David Martinez and the crew from season 1. CD Projekt’s stated position, quoted in the report, is: “David is dead. But Night City lives on.” That means the new season expands the setting instead of reopening David’s concluded arc.

The connection is thematic rather than a direct continuation. Season 1 followed one crew’s rise and tragedy; season 2 asks what can happen after the kind of rise-and-fall story that defined that first season. Night City remains the shared environment, but it functions as a much larger reservoir of stories than any single protagonist’s journey.
How season 2 connects to season 1
A deliberate thematic conversation
Sztybor described the relationship as “constant dialogue” with season 1. The phrase indicates that season 2 is designed to be understood alongside the first season: it revisits the consequences of ambition, reputation and collapse without simply repeating David’s plot.

“We started brainstorming with Studio Trigger, and then we found other characters and other things to put in this season,” Sztybor said. His explanation frames the decision as a choice to explore more of Night City’s stories rather than extend one finished storyline.
The trajectory is reversed
Sztybor summarized the contrast in a compact formula: “In Edgerunners season 1, it’s zero to hero. In Edgerunners season 2, it’s hero to zero.” The first season’s dramatic movement was an ascent toward legendary status followed by devastating consequences. Season 2 begins from the opposite direction, examining what remains when a formerly successful edgerunner loses that status.

Who is Weak Kingsley?
Weak Kingsley is a veteran edgerunner whose former success has faded. He embodies season 2’s “hero to zero” idea: rather than watching an unknown fighter climb toward prominence, viewers follow someone living in the shadow of what he once was. Clancy Brown provides Weak’s English-dub voice, according to the report.

Weak is therefore not presented as David surviving under another name. He is a separate character used to explore the kind of future Sztybor imagined for a hypothetical celebrity edgerunner: fame can fade, and an earlier victory can become a burden rather than a safeguard.
Does David come back in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 2?
Based on the creator’s comments and CD Projekt’s statement, season 2 does not bring David back as its protagonist. The season’s premise is a new cast and a different story in the same city. Any connection to David’s crew is conceptual, through the consequences and themes established by season 1, not a continuation of their on-screen adventure.
