At its September 2024 launch, it offered daily, team-specific grids for all 30 MLB teams, including the Mariners, with players sorted into columns by shared baseball facts. The launch format is documented in GeekWire’s September 4, 2024 report; current search results also show MLB.com pages with the same name, but do not establish whether those pages are the same game or whether the original version remains available.
How Daily Walkoff worked at launch
GeekWire described a daily grid with 12 player names arranged across four columns. Each column represented a shared relationship, such as a statistic, season, position, or biographical detail. Players selected the names they believed belonged together and placed them in the appropriate column.
The scoring borrowed baseball language: three correctly placed players completed a column as a hit, while a wrong placement counted as an out. The objective was to finish all four columns before reaching three outs. GeekWire compared the grouping mechanic to The New York Times game Connections.
Mariners puzzles were part of a league-wide game
The launch version was not limited to Seattle. GeekWire reported that players could choose daily puzzles for any of the 30 MLB teams, making it a Mariners trivia game as well as a broader baseball puzzle. The columns were generated nightly from a publicly available baseball dataset and could involve categories such as batting averages in a specified year, starting pitchers, wins and losses, or players’ home countries.

That team selection was central to the game’s appeal. Parker told GeekWire that players could choose a team and answer questions specific to it. The report named MLB Pickle and Immaculate Grid as other baseball-related games, but did not compare their features.
Who made the game, and how it was received
GeekWire identified Parker and Cook as Seattle friends and baseball fans who had met at the University of Washington 12 years earlier. In the 2024 report, Parker was helping run a Tableau training and consulting business, while Cook was a software engineer at Levanta; those are historical details, not confirmation of their current jobs.

GeekWire reported that Daily Walkoff drew more than 1,300 unique users in its first couple of days after launch. That is an early launch figure reported in 2024, not a current audience count.
Parker described the game’s technical ambition this way: “No other game is attempting to do this because of the complexity in coding and modeling it requires.” GeekWire also quoted him on the creators’ motivation: “We’re nerds,” Parker said. “We enjoy the challenge and the fun of the creation of it. But also we’re realists, in the sense that our wives and kids probably want more of us back at some point.”

What is known about Daily Walkoff now
Search results currently surface MLB.com pages titled “Daily Walkoff” and “Mariners Daily Walkoff.” The available result snippets do not establish whether these are the product Parker and Cook launched, what gameplay or features they currently offer, or whether the original creators remain involved. The detailed mechanics and creator information above describe the 2024 launch report, not a verified present-day version.
In that September 2024 season context, Parker called the puzzle “a fun distraction from how miserable the Mariners are.” That was his joke about the team at the time, not a current assessment of the Mariners.
