Half Human Games has announced Myths from the Maw, a dark cosmic-fantasy tactical strategy RPG headed to PC through Steam. The game is unreleased and currently marked “Coming soon,” with wishlisting available on its Steam product page. A Kickstarter campaign is planned for early 2027, but no release date or funding result has been announced.
What Myths from the Maw is about
Myths from the Maw follows a mercenary band entering the Maw, a colossal fortress that has fallen from the stars. Expeditions take the party through a hostile stronghold populated by rival warbands, eldritch horrors and lethal traps. The premise combines tactical battlefield decisions with a persistent moral cost: blood sacrifices to alien gods can provide power, but the consequences remain with the mercenaries who make them.

Half Human Games founder Percy Legendre IV described the project as “basically our love letter to Dante’s Inferno.” He also summarized its central risk-and-reward idea by saying, “In the Maw, every choice costs something, and you carry it with you.”
How the tactical combat is expected to work
Combat is turn-based, with positioning and action timing at the center of each encounter. Announced abilities include area-of-effect patterns, move-attacks, status effects, knockback, pulls, immobilization and deployable hazards. These tools should make the location of every character relevant rather than treating turns as simple exchanges of damage.

The Battle Clock
Every action consumes time on a Battle Clock. That system makes the order and cost of actions part of the tactical puzzle: a powerful move may expose a character to retaliation, while a cheaper repositioning action can create a better setup for the next turn. The announcement does not yet specify exact action costs, initiative rules or how the clock interacts with enemy turns.
Corruption can change the party itself
Corruption is the defining campaign system. It can increase through blood sacrifices, killing enemies, narrative decisions and failed checks. Rather than acting only as a numerical penalty, high corruption gives mercenaries sinful traits that can alter narrative events, campsite actions and battles.

Examples of sinful traits
- Hopeless characters may flee.
- Greedy characters may steal.
- Prideful characters may disobey orders.
- Gluttonous characters may consume supplies automatically.
These effects mean that a successful expedition can still damage the party’s future reliability. The published material does not establish fixed corruption thresholds, whether traits can be removed, or how often each behavior occurs.
Defection and later confrontations
A character who succumbs to sin can abandon the mercenaries and join the Cult of the Maw. Later expeditions may allow the player to encounter that former companion as an opponent. The announcement therefore treats defection as a lasting campaign consequence, not simply a temporary debuff or a lost equipment slot.

Races, classes and equipment builds
Announcement materials cite 12 races and 20 classes, with examples including Shadow Knight, Sword Dancer and Witch Hunter. Equipment is also intended to drive customization, so a character’s role will depend on more than the class selected at the start.
The class total is provisional. A separate BackerKit preview lists 25 classes, creating a discrepancy with the 20-class figure in the announcement materials. Until Half Human Games clarifies the difference, readers should treat neither number as a final launch count; it may reflect a changing design, different campaign tiers or a distinction between planned and currently announced content.

Roguelike expeditions and permanent consequences
Myths from the Maw is being designed around replayable expeditions. The announced structure includes procedural dungeons, randomized loot and abilities, meaningful permadeath and replay-focused runs. Permadeath gives every tactical error a campaign-level cost, while procedural layouts and randomized rewards are intended to make repeated journeys different.

The developers have not yet published details such as save rules, difficulty modes, run length or whether any progression carries between expeditions.

PC availability and release timing
The game is planned for PC via Steam. Steam currently lists support information for Windows, macOS and SteamOS + Linux, although the title remains unreleased and those platform details may change before launch. Its store status is “Coming soon”; no launch date, early-access date or minimum hardware requirements have been announced.
Kickstarter plans
Half Human Games is targeting an early 2027 Kickstarter campaign. That is a planned crowdfunding launch, not confirmation that the campaign has begun or reached its funding goal. No campaign budget, reward tiers, stretch goals or backer-exclusive content have been announced.
Who is making it?
Half Human Games is both developer and publisher. The studio is identified in announcement coverage as the developer of Dwerve. No independent sales, player-count, budget or performance figures have been published for Myths from the Maw, so the project’s scope and technical performance cannot yet be assessed from public evidence.
