When did Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition come out on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S?
THQ Nordic announced the enhanced edition on September 17, 2024, and confirmed it was available on October 15, 2024. The October 15 date was the digital launch. THQ Nordic later announced a separate physical retail release for PS5 and Xbox Series X on January 28, 2025. It said copies would be available at selected retailers. See the retail-release announcement.
What does the PS5 and Xbox Series version add?
THQ Nordic advertised 4K resolution at 60 FPS and ray tracing, with improved lighting, shadows and reflections. The publisher also highlighted faster loading through SSD technology. The announcement does not establish independent test results, so treat these as the publisher’s stated features rather than a guarantee of identical performance in every setup. Can PS4 and Xbox One owners upgrade?
PS4 to PS5
THQ Nordic said existing PS4 owners would receive a free PS5 upgrade. Its October 15, 2024 release announcement stated: “If you already own Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition on PlayStation 4, you will receive a free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version.” The PlayStation product page lists both PS4 and PS5 versions and cautions that some PS4 features may be absent when played on PS5. Is there a physical edition, and what did it cost?
The physical edition was announced as out on January 28, 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series X at selected retailers. THQ Nordic gave a suggested retail price of $29.99 / €29.99. That is the publisher’s historical SRP, not a current price or confirmation of present stock. The October 2024 digital-launch announcement also listed $29.99 / €29.99 as its launch SRP; current pricing should be checked with the relevant store. Physical release details.
