Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →data32.dll is usually a file from the NTI CD-Writing SDK Library, not from Windows itself. If Windows reports that data32.dll is missing, the safest fix is to identify the NTI or OEM backup program requesting it, then repair or reinstall that original application.
What data32.dll is
The file is described internally as Data32 DLL and was developed by NewTech Infosystems, Inc. It was included with applications such as NTI CD/DVD-Maker, NTI Backup NOW., NTI Media Maker, and OEM recovery or backup packages.
It is an application DLL. It is not a Windows system component, Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, or .NET component. It normally belongs in the folder containing the NTI program that uses it, often under Program Files or Program Files (x86).
The filename alone is not conclusive. Other software can use the same basename, so verify the path and publisher before assuming that your copy belongs to NTI.

Quick identification table
| Detail | What the evidence indicates |
|---|---|
| File | data32.dll |
| Internal description | Data32 DLL |
| Best-documented product | NTI CD-Writing SDK Library |
| Developer | NewTech Infosystems, Inc. |
| Usual role | Private support library for CD-burning, backup, or recovery software |
| Architecture | Commonly associated with 32-bit software |
| Reported file records | Some records list version 2.0.0.29 and about 192 KB; another lists 2.0.0.30 |
| Correct repair | Repair or reinstall the exact parent application |
The reported version and size are not universal requirements. They can vary by NTI product release, installer, and OEM build.
First, identify the program that needs the file
Do this before downloading anything or copying a DLL.
Check the error window
Look at the title bar and the text around the error. The application name may identify the responsible program, for example an NTI burning, backup, or recovery utility.
If the error appears immediately after signing in, right-click the taskbar and open Task Manager. Select Startup apps and look for an NTI or OEM backup, disc, recovery, or media utility. Do not disable it yet if you need to determine which program is failing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCheck the file path
If a copy of data32.dll still exists:
- Open File Explorer.
- Select This PC.
- In the search box, enter
data32.dll. - Wait for the search to finish.
- Right-click each result and select Open file location.
- Note the complete folder path.
A path inside an NTI application folder is consistent with the documented NTI file. A path under C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 should not automatically be treated as correct. A path belonging to Lenovo or another unrelated application indicates that the same filename may have a different owner.
Inspect file properties
Right-click the file, select Properties, and open the Details tab. Check:
- File description
- Product name
- Company
- Original filename
- File version
The expected NTI-related description is Data32 DLL, with NewTech Infosystems identified where the installer recorded publisher details. Missing publisher information does not prove malware, but it means you should rely on the original installer rather than the loose file.
Open the Digital Signatures tab if it exists. A missing signature is not, by itself, proof that the file is malicious because old application files are not always signed. It is another reason to verify the installation source and parent application.
Check Event Viewer when the error is vague
If the message says that the specified module could not be found:
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Event Viewer.
- Expand Windows Logs.
- Select Application.
- Choose Find from the Actions pane.
- Search for
data32.dll, the name of the failing application, or an application error recorded at the same time.
The message can mean that data32.dll itself is absent, but it can also mean that a dependency required by the DLL is missing or incompatible. The failing executable and application path are more useful than the DLL name alone.

What the common errors mean
You may see wording such as:
- “This application failed to start because data32.dll was not found.”
- “The file data32.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “Error loading data32.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Failed to load data32.dll.”
- “The program can’t start because data32.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “Cannot find data32.dll.”
These messages usually indicate a damaged, incomplete, removed, or incompatible installation of the application that uses the file. “The specified module could not be found” can refer to a missing dependency rather than to data32.dll itself.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the parent NTI application
This is the most likely and safest solution.
Use Windows repair options first
Some older desktop programs expose a repair command:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for
NTI,CD,DVD,Backup,Media Maker, or the OEM software named in the error. - Select the three-dot menu beside the program.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
Not every traditional desktop application provides this option. If Windows shows Modify or Repair in Control Panel instead:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the NTI or OEM program.
- Choose Change, Modify, or Repair.
Restart Windows and open the application again. If it starts without the DLL message, the repair restored the application’s private files.
Run the installer as administrator
If repair is unavailable:
- Locate the original NTI installer, OEM recovery installer, or installation media.
- Right-click the installer.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Follow the setup wizard.
- Choose Repair if offered.
- Otherwise, complete the removal and reinstall process.
- Restart Windows.
Use the installer for the same product, not a similarly named NTI program. A CD-writing application, backup application, and OEM recovery tool may use different builds of the SDK.
If the program was supplied with a computer, check the computer maker’s recovery media, recovery partition, or support package. NTI’s official downloads page may provide product downloads or same-major-version updates, but it does not establish that a current standalone data32.dll download exists for every legacy product.
Test the repaired application
Open the repaired program from the Start menu rather than from an old shortcut. Test the operation that previously failed, such as opening the backup interface or preparing a disc.
If the same error returns, record:
- The exact program name
- The full path shown in the error or Event Viewer
- Whether the error occurs at startup or during a specific task
- Any new error code
- Whether antivirus software reported a detection
Those details distinguish a missing file from a dependency or compatibility problem.
Fix 2: Check Microsoft Defender Protection History
Antivirus software may quarantine a DLL. A quarantine event does not prove that every data32.dll is malicious, and it does not prove that every detection is a false positive. Verify the original path and source before restoring anything.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Open the detection associated with
data32.dll. - Inspect the original file path and threat details.
If the original path was inside the verified NTI installation and the installer came from original media or a legitimate vendor source, you can review the available action for restoring or allowing the file. Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined threat can expose the device again, so do not restore a DLL obtained from a random download site.

- Video memory requirement : 64 MB or higher (128 MB recommended)
- With Cyberlink Software, support M Disc
A safer choice is often to reinstall the parent program after confirming the installer is legitimate. This restores the complete set of application files instead of placing one quarantined file back into isolation.
Afterward, run a scan:
- Return to Virus & threat protection.
- Select Scan options.
- Choose Full scan.
- Select Scan now.
If several unrelated DLLs disappeared, filenames are changing, or the file was outside a legitimate program directory, run Microsoft Defender Offline scan from the same Scan options page and follow the restart instructions.
Fix 3: Install the correct application update
An old NTI application may fail on a newer Windows release because its files or dependencies are incompatible.
- Identify the exact NTI or OEM product name.
- Check the official NTI support or downloads page, or the computer manufacturer’s support page if the software was bundled with the computer.
- Match the update to the installed product and major release.
- Download the installer only from that legitimate source.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Restart Windows after the update.
- Test the application again.
Do not replace a legacy NTI product with a different NTI product and assume it will supply the same DLL. If the vendor no longer provides a compatible installer, replacing the obsolete burning or backup application may be safer than forcing an unverified DLL into the old program.

Fix 4: Account for 32-bit software on 64-bit Windows
The documented NTI file is commonly associated with 32-bit applications. A 32-bit application normally loads its compatible private DLL from its own installation folder. It does not need a 64-bit replacement merely because Windows itself is 64-bit.
To check your Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Review System type.
To check the application location, right-click its shortcut, choose Open file location, then inspect the folder. Older 32-bit applications are often installed under C:Program Files (x86), although the location can vary.
Do not copy a 64-bit DLL into a 32-bit program folder. Do not copy a file from another NTI release. A mismatched build can cause loading failures, entry-point errors, or access violations even when the filename is correct.
The practical fix is to reinstall the application build intended for that program and Windows environment. Compatibility settings can also help with an obsolete application:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an earlier Windows version only if the application documentation or testing supports it.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Start the program again.
Compatibility mode cannot repair a missing DLL. It is useful only after the correct application files are present.
Fix 5: Check the optical drive and related drivers
A missing data32.dll is not normally fixed by a device driver, but an old NTI disc application can also encounter problems when Windows cannot communicate correctly with the optical drive.

- Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives.
- Right-click the optical drive.
- Select Properties and review the General tab.
- Check for a device status error.
- Select Update driver, then Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows.
If the drive remains unusable, right-click it in Device Manager, select Uninstall device, restart Windows, and allow Windows to detect it again. Do not uninstall unrelated devices.
Manual driver hunting can mean checking many hardware models and versions. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; its full version performs the installation, but reinstalling the NTI application remains the definitive fix when data32.dll belongs to that program.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when Windows itself is damaged
Because data32.dll is a third-party application file, System File Checker will not normally restore it. Use DISM and SFC when Windows has broader problems, such as several protected system components failing, update errors, or unexplained system instability.
Run DISM first, followed by SFC:
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for the operation to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows and test the NTI program.
A successful scan may report that Windows repaired protected files. That does not confirm that data32.dll was restored. If the application still reports the same error, repair or reinstall the parent program.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM without checking what changed can waste time when the real problem is an application-private DLL. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for repair issues and show what needs attention; its full version performs the repair, but it is optional and does not replace reinstalling the NTI application that owns this file.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore can help if the error began immediately after an installation, cleanup operation, update, or security action.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore normally does not remove personal files, but it can change installed programs, drivers, system files, and registry settings. If the error began after antivirus quarantine, verify the security event first. Restore the application from a trusted installer rather than restoring an unverified DLL.
What not to do
Do not copy data32.dll into System32 or SysWOW64
The application may require its DLL beside its own executable. A system-wide copy can create version conflicts and may cause a different program to load the wrong build.
Do not use random DLL download websites
A loose DLL can contain malware, use the wrong architecture, belong to another vendor, or be incompatible with the application’s exact release. Conflicting records for this filename also show why a reported version or size should not be treated as universal.
Use the original NTI or OEM installer, legitimate recovery media, or a current official vendor download instead.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not register it with regsvr32 as a routine fix
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. An application-private support DLL does not become usable merely because it was registered.
If you run a command such as:
regsvr32 data32.dll
and receive a message that the module or entry point was not found, that does not show that registration is required. It usually shows that this is the wrong repair method. Restore the file through the parent application’s installer instead.

Do not enable random Windows Features
Windows Features can add optional operating-system components, but they do not normally install the NTI CD-Writing SDK Library. Open Control Panel, select Programs, then Turn Windows features on or off only when the NTI product’s documentation specifically requires a Windows feature. Do not enable features at random to resolve this filename.
If the original installer is unavailable
First check:
- Original installation CDs or DVDs
- OEM recovery media
- A manufacturer recovery partition
- A backup of the computer’s installers
- The official NTI downloads page
- The computer manufacturer’s support page
If none is available, preserve any existing backup catalogs or disc-project files before uninstalling the old program. Then consider replacing the obsolete application with a currently supported backup or optical-media program.
Do not obtain a single replacement DLL from an unknown source. If the application is no longer supported and its installer cannot be verified, removing it and choosing a supported replacement is safer than continuing to repair an incomplete legacy installation.
FAQ
Is data32.dll a Windows file?
No. The best-documented data32.dll is part of the NTI CD-Writing SDK Library from NewTech Infosystems. Windows may display the error, but that does not mean Microsoft owns or distributes the DLL.
Does Microsoft Visual C++ install it?
There is no verified evidence that Microsoft distributes data32.dll as a Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET runtime component. Reinstalling those runtimes is not the primary fix for this file.
Is every data32.dll an NTI file?
No. The same filename can appear in unrelated software. Verify the full path, file properties, publisher, and calling executable before applying the NTI diagnosis.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Could the file be malware?
A missing file may be the result of quarantine, but the filename alone does not prove that a file is malicious or safe. Check Microsoft Defender Protection History and the original installation path. Scan the system if the file was outside a legitimate application folder or if multiple files disappeared.
Should I download data32.dll?
No, not as a first step. Repair or reinstall the application that originally installed it. A standalone download may be unsafe or incompatible and often leaves the damaged parent installation unresolved.
Will SFC restore data32.dll?
Normally no. SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They are secondary troubleshooting steps for this third-party application DLL.
What if the error says “specified module could not be found”?
The DLL itself may be absent, or a dependency may be missing or incompatible. Repair the parent application, then inspect Event Viewer if the message continues.
